Agreed. I seriously doubt the factory setup has more than 10" h2o of pressure loss. Probably more like 5". Even if you could cut 10" h2o of head loss that's a theoretical gain of only about 2.5% of air mass. More likely is dropping from 5" to 2", so 0.7% gain. 2.7hp

Even if you ran a stock filter to 20" h2o restriction, getting up into diesel change territory, that's less than a 4% drop assuming 5" on a new filter. Something like a theoretical 14 hp loss out of 381

The TRD air horn could be interesting though, it's a $14 part and retains factory filtration quality

I heard you can't truly feel the effect of a cold air intake unless your Tundra is white and has a fake hood scoop...Money is meant to be spent $$$

agreed. I have never found it to be true to just swap and see any notable gains. Possibly if there was full exhaust mods, supercharged, but not stock

I took some rough measurements with inside calipers and the TRD airflow accelerator is about .100" smaller than the stock extension measuring from opposite 'corners' in either direction. It sits low so mine is flush on the bottom and has the .100 step on the top, and roughly .050 step each side. Not a lot of cross-sectional area lost, but interesting.

Restriction into the clean side of the airbox is still too low to set the 8" h2o first ratchet of the filterminder with an oem denso filter with 25k miles on it. Not much room for improvement. One atm is about 406.8" h2o so losing 8" would be 2% less than perfect, and as is it's not even that restricted. That's with the TRD accelerator though. I didn't test the oem with the filterminder.

Anyways, after installing my S&B intake yesterday, I went for 2 test drive so far and both were with the trap open and a outerwear on my filter. I really liked the pull from 2500rpm to 4000 rpm. It felt nice but it leaves me wondering if it would do better performance wise, with the box...sound wise, I love it! I didn't noticed ANY bottom end loss. I only feel gains.

Anywho, a few hours later, I went for a 2nd drive to test out fuel economy, just for fun. On eco mode, I always click history then update so it resets the mpg or l/100 km. In town, I usually do 21 liters / 100km and today it was 17 liters/100km.

On the highway, doing 50mph, it usually does 13 to 13.5 liters at its best and today, I was doing 12 to 12.5 liters per 100km. A nice improvement if you ask me on fuel mileage! Keep in mind, there was slopes in my situations.
If you convert it, I usually do 11mpg in town and now I'm at 13.8mph and on highway, 17.4mpg and now18.8mpg. Hey, I'll take it!!!!!!

Very impressed so far. The installation was ok. Honestly, I watched a few videos before so I didn't really read the instructions but the assembly was a bit different from what I've seen on videos. Maybe because I have a 2020? Ah well.

Hi, I just caught this thread, I know its old. Do you happen to have any pictures of what you did to make you Cold Air Intake? Sounds like something I had in mind. I did not buy the whole intake kit, I just bought the TRD filter and the air accelerator. I thought why pay all that money for just them to items that count. I was just curious if I cut hole and put vent in on outside of fender if that would help by forcing mor air into that fender wall? Would appreciate your opinion THANKS, Wes

Is this true? Would it be worth wasting money on them installing it for the ECU flash? I just bought the TRD intake for our 21. Already have the TRD exhaust, red shocks, and both sways. Wanted to complete the set!

    No

The re-flash a dealer does is typically to correct OEM behaviors for specific ECUs and or models. Disconnect your battery for 15mins or so and let the ECU relearn your driving characteristics with the new mods in place.
