Nah... I bought moog ball joints for my wife's Dodge... Figured Moog is a top brand... Both efective right out of the box....couldnt even tighten them up... The stem would just spin when you tried to tighten the bolt.... Returned them and got the cheap AutoZone brand and they lasted another 4 years at least (were fine when we sold the truck)

Begs the question. Are only leveled or lifted trucks affected? Or are stock suspension trucks having this annoying issue as well ?

06 DC 2wd, was clunking stock, now with lift spacers on the front, still clunking. I have replaced everything except upper control arms.

It sounds and feels like someone hit the floorboard under the front passenger foot well area with a 3lb sledge. If I had to guess, maybe the spring catches on something. I remember when replacing the struts there wasn't much clearance from one of the springs to the steering knuckle. (I have not replaced the upper ball joints either)

I’m having the same issue since fitting my 2020 tundra with Fox 2.5s RR , I had 5100s in before and never made a peep! Now I have a clunking noise front the front passenger side, metal on metal sounding when I articulate the passenger side up or down into a bump, I’ve been driving “slowly) onto a curb and stoping passenger side and it makes the clunk ever time! It’s definitely metal on metal! But I cannot see any marks or anything lose!

Definitely may want to post about that over in the 3rd gen forum, someone with the same model of truck as you may have this issue too.

Due to major differences between our 1st gen trucks and your 2rd gen, any advice you get in this 1st gen (best gen) subforum could lead to unexpected results or damage.

PS - before anyone else replies .. ZOMBIE THREAD!

Happens all the time. I think the 1st Gen guys are so accustomed to 2nd/3rd Gen folks replying on our threads we'd never hear the end of it if one of us did the same :D

I have been running those Moog for about 15k miles now, and that includes some off-road weekend trips to Barnwell Off-road park in Gilmer, Tx and the offroad park in Marble Falls, Tx. Most of it is rock crawling stuff. I have since added sliders, full underbelly skid row skid plates, cut the rear fenders, removed the factory tow hitch and rear bumper and replaced it with a custom high clearance rear bumper. I am in the process of trying to figure out how to gut the fender and fit 37s on it. If I can figure it out, I will regear to probably 4.88 gears. Yes I know I will have to probably beat the hell out of the firewall as well. I am fine with that. Anything that breaks is just an excuse to upgrade. I am also planning a solid axle swap in the next year or two.

I wonder if yours is not a transmission (or maybe transfer case?) Mount from what you described...

Mine was two different issues possibly combining to appear as one. The sway bar mount was causing some of the clunk and noise and I replaced that with a Moog bushing. That fixed it for about 6 months, then I split it again while offroad, so the noise is back, and I said the hell with it. I am about to pull the sway bar anyways.

The other part was the steering rack bushing mounts. I put some silicone grease (silicone grease is the most water resistant and stays put better than any other grease) and that shut up the other part of the noise. Knowing what I know now, I would go through the suspension in the future, loosen anything or take tension off any bushing and spray silicone spray (liquid wrench makes one) on any rubber bushings. I would also inspect them for cracks to see if they need to be replaced. If you off-road like me, all bushing that are under a lot of stress are going to split fairly quickly. I will probably go with polyurethane bushings next time. They are supposedly tougher, but they make more noise and are harder so you feel more vibrations and road bumps which initially I didn't want. That's the trade off for durability though I guess.

Just fixed the front end clunking on my 2006 tundra. Was four loose bolts on the crossmember where it bolts to the transmission. Found the fix tip on YouTube. Wish I could thank the the person that supplied the advice.

This is only true for 2WD trucks. It's one of many topics covered in the megathread in the sticky section at the top of this 1st gen forum, which if you haven't read yet, you should...

Not raining, but check that thread, you may find other things that've been driving you nuts you can fix, turn those cartwheels into somersaults and backflips.

Or you may find your truck is a death trap you need to stop driving
