I'm embarrassed to admit this but I blew the engine in my 98 Dakota, because I didn't know the pressure test the cooling system.

I kept losing antifreeze and for the life of me couldn't figure out where it was going, wasn't being burned in the engine I couldn't smell it in exhaust it wasn't dripping on the ground... I was helping a friend by towing a trailer of furniture through West Virginia, we came to a rather steep hill and the cruise control drop it down and gear RPM shot up by the time I got to the top of the hill I heard BANG and the inevitable squealing in a dyeing motor.

got the truck home pull the motor out removed the oil pan and the oil was the consistency of Taffy [IMG] I went to a junkyard bought a used Ram 1500 318 dropped it in and the antifreeze started disappearing again..... I stood there an absolute bewilderment with the hood up, the radiator wasn't leaking the hoses weren't leaking the reservoir wasn't leaking there were no leaks of any kind and it still wasn't being burned through the motor.... Just then the clouds moved in blacked out the Sun and I saw it.... Where the angle pipe goes into the water pump a drop of antifreeze squeezed out dropped onto the block and evaporated..... It was a $0.05 o ring and my own ignorance that cost me the motor.

That ain’t basic ignorance! It would’ve confused the hell out of me too. If you can’t figure out you need a regular oil change, I’d be inclined to call you a bucket of stupid.

Antifreeze pressure tests aren’t common knowledge!

So what are you going to do? Are you going to completely disassemble the engine or complete replacement. That is a lot of nasty shit! What the actual fuck

OK so you just took it apart because you were curious. I bet it’s hard to even look at them in the eye knowing how stupid they are.

From the same department...a while back my pal says his Vette is stalling and lost it's giddyup. I gave him my truck keys and said I'd return it eventually.

Air filter was 100% packed with dirt. Oil was sludge and the plugs were never changed. Ran like a raped ape after that. People sheesh.

Anything is possible, I say that because there are people who believe the earth is flat, even today. It’s always a shouting and interesting debate when I get bored at work and bring it up and that one dumbass tries to persuade me that the earth never floods because water goes to the “edges” and falls

Another good reason to buy new! I would hate to buy a used truck with an engine looking like that.

The chunk of piston in the oil pan kind of ruined this from any more running.
