I'm no scientist. I just know with the SOS kit the longer the shackle the lower you go. The shackle that comes with it has a few settings. The "longest" setting lowers the truck the most.

And when I talked to CB and we compared measurements from my current shackle to his +3", his was slightly shorter than mine and he told me that would in turn lift the rear a tad.

That's basically my understanding. I've never lowered a truck before, only my M3 on coils, so this is new. Will have to see if I can wrap my head around what's happening during install

I'll post a picture from under a friend's truck in a bit. He has the same SOS kit installed but with the SOS shackles.

As you extend the shackle length on our tundra, you push the axle further from the frame. Longer shackle lifts the truck

Maybe I had it wrong? That was my understanding and the emails to CB confirmed. But maybe he was misunderstanding as well?

So maybe I really just need a 2" CB? Hmm

my money says Dave assumed by flip kit the shackle was flipping.

do you have airbags as well to prevent bottoming out on the frame btw?

I do, but even with no air in them I've never bottomed out. I'm about to order the 2" shackles‍♂️

Cool, cause it does seem counter intuitive to say longer shackle lowers truck, even when SUA.

So it looks like I did misunderstand it all and the shorter the shackle the lower the rear. I apologize for causing even more confusion.

I just ordered a +2" set from CB shortly to bring my rear down a bit.

Still think he should advertise them as working for the lowered market

I don't think anyone had done it before me. I wish I could find my original emails back and forth to him but it did seem like it was a new question for him.

Not to say I did anything groundbreaking. A shackle is a shackle. What really happened was that my truck came lowered already. The previous owner had just done it. For some reason the had grinded the extra metal off the shackles and it was ugly (even though no one in the world would see it or notice but me). I wanted to replace them but didn't want to buy the flimsy-ish looking SOS ones and being that I had a good experience with the CB ones in the past I figured I'd get fancy.

I just sold the taco I built up and one of my future mods included hammer hangers, which are basically the equivalent of cb's for the Tundra.

They are and they have really high reviews on tw. But they're expensive. Probably better than shackles, but the 2nd gen tacos come with hangers from factory, unlike the Tundras with shackles

Do you know what the backspacing and offset are on those rims? I'm doing research for new ones after I get it lowered. Want them flush with the fender like yours

Alright just got the +3's swapped out with the +2's. The difference is subtle but it's there. The rear now only sits about 1/4" higher than the front.

I have a feeling i'll start out with the 2" and after a trip or two towing may actually need the 3" lol. But I do got air bags going in with the lowering kit so maybe not. gonna be trial and error

Unless you're off-roading, no reason not to! Better handling than stock, easier to reach things in the bed. I do a fair amount of mountain driving and the truck already handles pretty well. Gonna be smile inducing after I'm through with it!

@nags are you running stock leafs still? It's something I'll likely end up replacing after a year or two. got a quote from Alcan for $1100 for a custom SUA 0" lift leaf pack

I am. They're pretty mint looking but I also want to swap to Alcan and got the same quote from them already. What is SUA?

Spring under axle. It's what the sos lowering kit is basically. But you see the term applied more in lifted long travel trucks

Ah, I didn't catch the acronym.

But yea, my leafs are pretty mint looking and I have no complaints with the way it rides. But I'd definitely like to get those Alcans.

Although I've also thought about going to a 4 link or something along those lines.
