Unless there is a baby or dog in the car, I wouldn't smash any windows, pry any doors, run any wires.

Like many have already suggested, call a locksmith.

You could have been in your car 22hrs ago by now

Slim jims and inflatable door wedges still work without battery and a broken lock tumbler. It’s humbling just how fast an experienced lock smith can be inside of your car - typically faster than you can count out the three $20 bills he’ll charge you if you don’t have AAA.

Oh, and if for any reason you DO decide to break a window....

From previous experiences with domestic cars that have had side windows broken in, the front windshield is normally the cheapest to replace these days.

So why hasn’t a locksmith or tow truck been called to open the door? Just out of pride?

Depends on the windshield and where you replace it. Mine has defrosters wired up to where the wipers rest. Not cheap. Also, some non OEM glass is not optically correct for the camera that is mounted on the rearview mirror base, so again, not cheap.

It had to be discharged already to freeze. Pretty sure you're getting a new battery.

What worked to get the truck open?

Called a tow truck, he had one of the tiny little pumps, pryed the door and a long rod for the handle, bingo. $100 later.

Still doesn't explain why my key didn't work, last year my battery died and my key worked, this time it didn't, the only thing that changed beside of all the parts i bought was i took the chrome handles off and put the painted match handles on.

Something didn't go back on right. Looks like you'll have dig into the door's inner workings.

It does seem like that should work, but the 12V+ BATT terminal has a relay in the circuit that is energized through the ignition fuse. If the ignition circuit is not hot, then that relay is open.

Doubt it. But worth OP trying rather than taking the sawzall to the grille or putting a rock through a window. Because he seems to really not want to call a locksmith.

Has anyone ever been in that door. I've known of technicians leaving the rod off when replacing door lock actuators. Will work electronically but not manually.

No, I would probably call a locksmith and have them give it a go myself.

I was just speculating based on previous experiences (side windows not in stock... had to order, more expensive than windshield, more labor, etc...), that IF the OP did decide to break glass, well then the front windshield would have been the easiest route. And his second stop would be a glass installer before going home... LOL

Found out what was wrong with my key, when i put my new handles on i must have not aligned the rod straight, now it works. Now for all people who want to change your handles just make sure your 4" rod is straight don't make the mistake i did.
Anyway Thanks everybody for your input.
