I really dug our trip through Fruita to Crested Butte. Awesome places. I have family in Ft. Collins area. Never been there though.

Nowhere. Where there are people, there is water. It's a pretty damn dry desert here and we have a shit load of those little fuckers.

I heard Alaska doesn't have mosquito's. HA! I remember watching animal planet with my boys and watched a horde of mosquitos drop an elk or deer. Crazy.

I appreciate that. I've been to Port Ludlow , my grandmother lived there before she passed. I heard Bellingham is off the hook for riding!...And it's not too hard to get to Whistler :)

I live in Vandenberg Village, CA. Zero mosquitoes, and daytime temps run in the low 60s during the winter and low to mid 70s the rest of the year. Lived here most of my life. Only see mosquitoes when we go camping.

It really is a shame that it was so easy to take America and divide it into an “us vs them” battle. This thread is a prime example of that. There’s no tolerance anymore for different points of view.

I like California a lot. It’s beautiful with tons to do. I just don’t think I could stomach another tax rate like Hawaii with a wasteful govt. then again there’s no escaping that anywhere these days so I don’t really understand all the haterade around here.

Meh, Canada is pretty cool. Get it, “cool”!?

    I’ll see myself out.

It always has been, the original 13 were not harmonious. Have you read what they were saying about each other? It's amazing they were able to come together long enough to sign the Declaration of Independence.

That is very true. Here is what the California haters forget. They have the 5TH LARGEST ECONOMY IN THE WORLD. That's right, the world! So even though it's a mess politically we actually need California to keep kicking ass in order for the US to keep being successful. Also, California grows 50% of all fruits, nuts, and vegetables.

Seriously, I have heard this more than once. I am real curious how this ranking was established. I am sure Cali's economy is more than many many countries, but 5th in the World??? Ranking Seems highly suspect.

I have to think that it's based on commerce. The high cost of living & high taxes would generate more commerce or money changing hands. If these two things were lower, commerce would be lowered.

Not an economist but always questioning polls and rankings.

Mean. But funny. You win today's internet.

Some people are taking this thread way too seriously. Think of the banter revolving around sports team. You mock the other side, but only rarely does anyone go overboard. Usually involving too many overpriced beers at the stadium.

I have no problem believing this when you consider where most tech is located. Think about how much money is being generated in Silicon Valley and the Bay Area right now. It's huge.

Cali has ~ the population of Canada (which is a G7 nation) and includes both Hollywood and Silicon Valley along with all the agriculture. That economy is BIG. It's main issue is at the government level. One-party states are never good. Regardless of party.

That said, mocking isn't hate. I'd love to see a lot of Cali. Just wouldn't want to live there. My Aunt moved to LA just in time for the earthquake, mud slides (yes, mudslides rather than today's wildfires), riots, drive-by shootings on the plugged up highways... Then she moved back to Edmonton. EDMONTON. You have to really fear for your life to leave the warmth and sun to go to Edmonton. Seriously. It makes Minnesota look like Florida.

Some good info there, guess GDP is the measure. Hard to argue.

There are great parts of Cali, great places to visit for sure. I know after my last two visits to plan around the horrific traffic for sure!

Great point about 1 Party guvment.

You'd think that being the 5TH LARGEST ECONOMY IN THE WORLD they wouldn't have to impose such high taxes on everything. No such thing as a free lunch apparently. I do like northeast corner of Kali near the Orygun/Nevada border. Great hunting and fishing and no wackos

    Dear OP,

    What she said.

Also, I typically shun the idea of more Californians moving up here but you get a pass...just don't tell anyone.

Here's a Washington list of Pros from my perspective:
    1. Mountains, please!- We have multiple mountain ranges with peaks exceeding 14,000 feet.
    2. Beaches - Salt water and freshwater. - Now, the Pacific up this far north is not warm. That said, I scuba dive regularly and surf from time to time. Think Big Sur temperatures.
    3. Amazing geographic and climate variety. From Tundra (pun intended), to rain forest, alpine to desert, we have it all.
    4. Western WA has more metropolitan areas and more access to services (healthcare, Costco etc). It rains more frequently but summers are the best in the West. Eastern WA typically has 300+ days of sun, less people (and better drivers), but going to a Costco can be a half-day or full-day adventure. I've lived on both sides and love both (@jewsNbrews ). Some areas have quite a trek to even a critical access hospital (since healthcare was mentioned).
    5. There are lakes, streams, rivers, oceans, sounds etc to fish in. I've not hunted but many friends do.
    6. NO INCOME TAX (yet... and with you're help we can keep it that way ;) )
    7. Wages are quite good at least in the Puget Sound region.

    EDIT:
    8. Mountain biking. Depending on where you live, you can sneak in a quick lap during lunch. There are all level of trails and Steven's Pass run's their lifts during summer for park days!

    Con's:
    1. @Migraine touched on the "uninformed masses". Put it this way, Google Evergreen State College protests. Extrapolate that to many of the metro areas and lawmakers. - Full disclosure, I too classes there but stuck out for sure.
    2. Housing costs in metro areas are high.
    3. Freaking traffic. Partially due to growth but also policies that remove traffic lanes to add bike lanes and some people's obsession with choo-choo trains.
    4. Moving here, everyone will tell you "oh, it rains all the time there..." You'll get tired of hearing it but you'll soon forget about it when you look outside and see this:

Great write up. I agree with just about everything you've said. The PNW is very beautiful and diverse. I love this pic. Mt Rainer is back middle. It's the furthest and still dwarfs the rest. Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Hood, Mt Adam's, Mt St Helen's and Mt Rainer. zcd19qwnn2s31.jpg

On second thought, Spokane or Reno are the two best cities in America. Go to either one.

Personally I'd stay out of Spokane. Great place to visit. I'd live just outside in Cheney or medical lake before moving into spokane. But that's just me.
