AZ is a Constitutional carry state for all US citizens (open or concealed), and also recognizes all other states CCW permits. Constitutional carry means if you are lawfully allowed to own a gun, you are allowed to carry a gun. There are some restrictions on where you can carry unless you have an AZ CCW Permit (establishments that serve alcohol). The only restrictions if you have a CCW permit is private property owners can restrict your entry onto their property, government buildings can be restricted (courts, post office) while armed and you cannot be under the influence of drugs or alcohol while armed.

All kidding aside, lest some o' you think we're being a bunch of a-holes, I've lived in many states and many places from border to border and coast to coast, WA, OR, NM, AL, MS, TN, NC. NY, MA, KY, GA, and TX. I could live in any one of them now, but prefer where I am, 20 acres in the Hill Country of Texas, well west of the hustle, bustle and politics of the big cities.

I don't think anyone in this state is going to egg your CA car or do any other such thing. You're welcome here, but please, do NOT bring with you that for which you are leaving CA.

And for the OP, truly, you will not find "mountain biking" here, lots of biking on some nice venues, but it's not mountain biking. We just dont' have the mountains. No skiing. Texans who want to ski go to Angel Fire, Taos, or Ruidoso, NM. (In fact we used to have some jokes about TX skiers when I lived in NM). It can be plenty hot here, and humid in places. It's why I dont live any farther east. Not so bad here in the hills.

My home state MS is constitutional carry. We never paid attention to not carrying before it was ok.

I have many friends that moved here from TX and CA. There are great people everywhere. CO is getting crowded but many days this winter I will ski in the morning and golf in the afternoon!

Add a poll to this thread with the most common responses so we can vote and where we want you to move to. But whatever we vote, you have to do it. That's the catch.

Bend is killer! I have some family that moved there last Spring (relocated from South Orange County) and went to visit for a week this past August. If you dig being outdoors it's a pretty insane spot. The mountain biking was amazing. There have been a ton of people relocating there, but it didn't feel overwhelmingly crowded. They are building a bunch more homes outside of town, so seems it could trend towards being much busier in the years to come. My wife and I kinda fell in love with it, but I would have a hard time moving away from the coast. Having Mt. Bachelor so close is a major plus if you are into winter sports.

I hear ya. I definitely don’t live in CA because it’s the most affordable. In all honesty my wife and mine’s professions sort of “trap” us here. We both make far more in our professions than we would in other states, so the extra cost of living is kind of a wash I think. I know I’m basically describing Stockholm Syndrome, but there are worse places to be trapped IMO. Plus the extra retirement contributions will help us retire almost anywhere we want. I get that we are fortunate and not everyone has this same option, and I also get that this is a large part of why Californians garner so much ire when they move in and drive up property costs. As someone who lives in the Bay Area commuter property influence area....trust me....I understand that ire.

Also I’m not sure this “CA Exodus” is real...but boy I wish it were. All I see up and down CA is new homes being built left and right. Is it sustainable, probably not, and it’ll only make things more crowded to be sure. So I get the impulse to find a less crowded corner of the country.

I digress, more power to you man. If you can find that sweet spot between affordability, income, low crowds and cool recreation ...PM me on the side. We don’t want the secret to spread too far now do we.

Yeah I think “the exodus” is generational, at least in my myopic view. I’m speaking of
the people who I know that are on the tail end of their career. Last I read there is still an almost 2million house shortage compared to population. Comparatively even with a lot of people leaving there are still a lot coming in. You’re correct. For comparison sakes I think Idaho State pop is under 2 million. I was just driving back from Disneyland and the population sign for Los Angeles alone is 4 million.
I’m in the same boat. Careers keep us here. My wages and house price increases with COL. but honestly I don’t think it’s sustainable in a fixed income. If there is another market / housing correction it’ll buy me about 10years to figure it out :). The other side of the coin is moving to the outskirts for a way cheaper house in Cali. Maybe Graeagle , Portola area and still maintain the life, friends, recreation.
