    sad but true.

i can say that san onofre nuclear plant was closed for no reason other than jerry brown hated nuclear power. I have some inside baseball info, there was nothing wrong with the plant. Truly sad sad sad

We are going down the same road. We have ~4000 MW of wind/solar. I have personally seen 3000 MW disappear in a matter of minutes.

I am seriously considering a whole house generator that runs off NG.

I think going to an electric vehicle for a daily driver makes more and more sense as time passes - at least for someone that lives in Southern California, where the sun shines over 300 days out of the year. Pricing for solar panels has and will continue to drop dramatically, and advances in battery technology and the multitude of charging stations have practically eliminated range anxiety.

However, I don't think these arbitrary deadlines make much sense. Why even assign a date like 2035? But it will happen eventually if it makes financial sense to those who can utilize solar power.

In the meantime, 10 mpg baby!

I want to see an environmental study done on the impact of mining for lithium and disposing of the batteries. I get that fossil fuels lead to green house gasses, but the lack of ground disturbance needs to be compared to that of mining to truly see what is best for the environment. I’d take well and pipeline over a 3 mile wide crater

I don't really have any opinions on this other than to say change is inevitable. Oil is a finite resource. How long it will last I have no idea. I would not be surprised if vehicles are almost exclusively electric by the time I leave this world(I'm 32). I suspect that the change might happen rapidly once the technology improves.

Sorry to hear that. These kinds of stories just piss me off. I really enjoyed living in CA (left in 1997). I always had someone or something to do. Never a shortage...that's for sure.

Montana isn't cheap. Property taxes are high (not CA high), fuel is expensive, and winters can be brutal. When I left in 1993 for the military, the thought of going back never crossed my mind. My parents moved from MT to CO for that reason as well. Winters were just rough on a person. This was the reasoning for my comments. Many movie stars and Californians move up there, don't buy existing homes, buy up acreage and build a huge house that nobody else can afford. After a couple hard winters they say "F it" and leave. Most people don't know how hot it gets there. Some areas in Montana get up over 100*.

Yah I’ve seen that and I work outside for a living Hahahha we’re just to conservative to be here anymore the news laws being past and the taxes just not our cup of tea. Just 3 arches I would do Idaho but to many cali people are moving there so like Texas that should be ruined soon.

Your electrical cost is pretty cheap @10.5 cents per/kWH. Do you have battery storage?

Get this. I make the power sold for 4.5 cents per/kWH. I live outside my service district and a power company buys the power at 8 cents per/kWH, then sells it back to me for 12.5 cents. LOL. Glad I have 2x6 construction and very efficient home.

I wish it was 4.5 cents per KWH.
    I am in Bakersfield, CA and my current rate is tier 1: 24c per/kwh Tier 2: 32c per/kwh and tier 3: 50c per/kwh.

My average is around 28c per/kwh and using the AC very conservatively.

As for net metering... when I go solar, I will try and produce as much as possible during peak hours to consume during the night. I should never have to pay PGE again.

So states that border California will have new car dealerships right on the border.

electric vehicles will likely be the future when battery technology hits the next level. Is oil finite? Yes, but the supply is nowhere near out. Think of how expensive oil has to get to make electric a cheaper option? 6 months ago oil was too cheap....

ca will have a hard time fighting interstate commerce. They will probably do what Georgia does and charge sales tax on imported vehicles from other states. I don’t see how they could block registration from people bringing a car in. But lets be honest, if any of us still live here by 2035 we need a mental exam

CA is crazy. The state might be powerful and rich in many ways, but their offended hipster bullpoop is getting out of hand. Don't get me wrong, someone has to exaggerate so those following the example can make it better without the attitude. EV's are the future but 15 years is an insane time window for an overhaul, I doubt CA's electric grid can handle the load as it is, so how long would it take to renovate it? cost of said renovation?

Until battery technologies can double or triple the capacity, IMHO they're not worth it. $0.02

I looked up where you were, guess my source was incorrect on pricing. What you said makes more sense. When CA was having rolling brown/black outs recently, at times electricity was being sold to you all for 3000.00 per/MWH. Considering CA average peak usage is 27 Gigawatts, this can get very expensive quickly.

This is the huge downside to having little to no power generation. Renewable energy is unreliable (at best) and grid operators need to have enough spinning reserve to cover these loads. Here is the catch, and this is just icing on the cake....
When renewable energy sources are lost (storm, cloud coverage, no wind/to much wind), grid operators are not allowed to make an emergency response to make up for the load until people start losing power. By then it’s just a recovery.

I’m all for renewable energy. In fact, I think all new homes should have solar panels. When you build your solar panel make sure you go to the max allowable. Seventeen 340W panels work pretty good from what one of my buddies said.:D

The last time I was in southern CA, the solar fields were mind boggling. I was going through Randsburg to the Mojave. In fact I had to stop by Indian Wells brewery since I couldn’t take it and pick me up some good Mojave Red.

I wonder what they factor as the average wattage usage per driver

You think they won't ban the new registration of gas powered cars that were purchased after the EV change goes into effect?

They won't hold this date, it's just about pushing the industry towards electrical solutions faster.
