There’s already a thread called “What makes you angry”. Sure wish I bought Tesla stock yesterday.
I don’t expect this to hold water either. I doubt something like this will stay in effect for 15 years. If it does, maybe in 15 years the tech will be so badass that gas vehicles would be obsolete. Just a thought. Don’t eat me alive.

I know I'm not angry. Mostly quite amused. One thing for sure.....rickshaw stocks will be a great investment....

My guess is this is the final death knell for internal combustion... CA has driven emission standards nationally for the last 20 years. No auto executive will put money behind engine platforms that will not be available to 20% of the population of the USA. This mirrors policies already announced in the UK and EU. Toyota has already rumored that 2021 is the last year for the 3UR-FE V8...

The challenge for us and others in the future will be battery life/off road capability for overlanders etc. I plan to drive my 2003 Tacoma for another 20 years, same with the Tundra. The only EV Truck platform that looks capable to me is the Rivian R1T. I think I could drive it anywhere the TRD Pro can go but how do I re-fuel in the middle of the sierras? sigh....

I hear ya. We’ve also come so far in the last few years as far as EV platforms, mileage on a single charge, and locations to charge. By then I can imagine there would be many choices as far as affordability and off road ability on platforms we haven’t even thought of as far as size/shape.

Genuine question, why do you still live in that state?

Could you imagine living in a state with "freedom?"

What are struggling families that are already buried under California's ridiculous real estate prices and sky high taxes supposed to do when a base model Honda Civic jumps to $35K+. And with California's highest gas taxes in the nation, how will they recover that revenue? I believe that number is around 16 billion, will they tax the electricity that they already can't keep on? The grid can't handle even a fraction of California's 40+ million population all plugging in their vehicles in the evening. This is a radical attention grab that will never come to fruition, I suspect Gavin is gearing up for 2024

CA won’t even be a state in 2035. It will be underwater from an earthquake caused by a Tesla battery explosion in a tunnel that will cause the LP fault line to activate. Once that activates, Duane The Rock Johnson will have to save you in an EV vehicle.

Isn’t that why they are pushing for an “exit tax”? So ridic! I’m still happy with my decision to leave years ago.

California currently has plans to decommission it’s last nuclear powerplant. I believe that will be the 6th powerplant closed in a 15 year span. Every summer we buy electricity from texas and Arizona because our grid is overwhelmed
Sounds like all electric cars is the way to go.

Our streets and freeways in California are practically off road courses, I've never seen such shitty roads anywhere else. Get away from the pumps, and what will the high taxes we pay at the pump (to maintain our roads) get replaced by? Raise taxes on electricity and double pump people like me who won't have an electric vehicle? The roads will be even worse and everybody will need trucks just to drive to work.

By the way, does anybody else think he's becoming a villain from a corny superhero movie? His voice is always scratchy these days and eyes always bloodshot. He's mutating.

    No political views expressed here.

Thanks to our abundant hydropower in Central WA, we send power all over too. We have some of the cheapest power rates in the country.

You might have a look at the Nikola Badger. I've actually considered putting a deposit on one. I like that they're working the possibility of hydrogen into the plan. The Neuron EV looks interesting too.
As far as EV vs internal combustion, not the hill I wanna die on. It's coming, whether we like it or not, petroleum is a limited and nonrenewable resource. Buy stock in the companies producing the elec. motors and creating the AI programs for the autonomous driving and making the switch will seem like a smart decision.

I looked at the Badger with the hydrogen cell. 90k. Pretty impressive numbers though.

Many other places in the country won't be ready to get rid of gas powered vehicles by 2035. Many places outside of Metro areas would not be able to handle all those vehicles charging. I still think it will probably be 2065-2070 until this is possible for the entire US. Possibly even later.
