Building your own home can place a lot of trauma on a relationship. I've warned a few people that unless it's a full team agreement think twice. It's also hugely rewarding and your house looks beautiful and what a fantastic setting.
I'm not going to ever do it again. I used to joke with my wife that I should build a new one often enough to never have to wash the windows. 5 times. Now I would be okay with a double wide if I have enough shops, greenhouses, and outbuildings.

The wife and I have had plenty of little arguments about the house but nothing big. We have already both decided this will be the first and last house we build. It's just too much. We both love the house but just can't wait for it to be done.

Seems to me based on my experience and that of my friends, a man is okay living in a house but a woman wants a home. Every time, I'd just want more shop space but she'd be planting trees and starting a garden. Anybody else notice this?

@gosolo As a woman, I can be fine in a house but I just want to have toys like you do! And you have to share the shop space.

So at least let me say that my blushing bride of almost 40 years was the first gal I met that owned her own guns. Our first date was a hunting outing and on my first birthday together she gave me new redwing boots at our deer hunting camp. One anniversary I got her a chainsaw.

Sure is satisfying isn't it! Did you build in any hidden rooms or stash spots? I always did, it's so easy when you are building but hard to add later. Money for drapes and blinds can be a hit if you're not ready.

You know, I didn't even think about doing that. Although hell, I'm lucky I've made it this far... This is exhausting! And yes, I'm buying blinds now and it is expensive. Probably have $1K in those by the time its done.

This is probably old stuff to you, but have you checked out the blinds that have overlapping pockets when open? they are nearly like going from double to triple pane windows.
In the bedrooms I like to add the blackout curtains as well, lets you get good sleep when you are working a swing or 'off' hours schedule (or when you have flu and the light hurts your eyes).

What are the high and low temp extremes at your new home location? At my place in AZ we occasionally get 60 degree swings during the day. 30 +/- to 90 +/-, sure makes gardening hard, the damn plants don't know if they are coming or going.
