TRD sway bar, matching mirror cover, 20% tint, esp aluminum box, Line-X premium, Undercover Flex tonneau cover, led interior lights, winjet smoked tail lights. Road armor rear bumper w/ road armor shackles, go rhino front bumper.
Not knowing how much they cost, I pretty much beat these sensors up and they're pretty sturdy. I had to use a hammer to pound the sensors in in order to align the screw holes since I had the bumper linex. The sensors still functioned fine after a beating so I doubt accidentally kicking it would damage it.

In all honesty, not the best company to deal with, they screwed up my order and overcharged me, then they try to fix it by throwing in a free firepit only to "accidentally" charge me again in a few weeks for unknown reason. I had to call them numerous times to fix it, then the sales rep I was working with just disappeared so they assigned me another sales rep. I did get a refund for the accidental charge and was told if I want to buy anything again, he'll try to "take care" of me....

Oh boy, here I go again.

So. I've watched this video several times and I'm still skeptical this is working to OEM spec. I still think the sensors' normal detection areas are being distorted. It's difficult to evaluate from the video, it could be the angle. I find it unusual that the vehicle leaves your camera's FOV and the BSM remains on until the rear wheels of the passing vehicle leave the frame/pass your side mirror.

Image below for reference. You can clearly see the rear tire of the passing vehicle has passed the mirror and BSM is engaged.

That's messed up. Yea, they don't seem to communicate with each other very well. One rep told someone else here that the free winch was an 8000 lb and another told me that it was a 9,500 lp winch. My rep also told me that they have not even received the winches yet. Did you get the firdpit and like it?

You could be right but I couldn't tell the difference between the stock bumper or the road armor bumper. I do know if I hit a deer with the road armor I'm gonna keep trucking and not miss a beat. If you were in NJ I let you test my truck, lol.

I had no use for it, sold it for $20 just to get it out of my garage.

I'm in NOVA so I'm not too far. I would love to test and compare when COVID and other obligations die down a bit.

Diagram mapping the estimated (based on user manual) BSM detection. I know there are two lobes emanating from the sensor, one is straight from the sensor (along the 100° vector) and the other is 45° off center from the primary. Originally I thought the 45° lobe was pointed forward, but I think this is pointed towards the rear near the 146.5° vector. If what @BayRunner predicted is true (the bumper is acting as a reflector) it appears the rear facing lobe is reflected forward.
The diagram should read 100° not 110°

    BSM Diagram.jpg

I don't use RCTA at all (I always park nose out) are you able to notice if RCTA has been affected?

I’ve looked at the video and the BSM indicator stays on until the car passes the driver door. No harm here, but the big question is when the BSM indicator kicks on. Is it coming on when the car is truly in the blind spot. This video is of the driver side. The true question is for the passenger side.

I agree about the passenger side since it has the bigger blind spot but I don't I think the results will be any different. The sensors presumably provide symmetrical coverage on both sides. On my OEM system the BSM clears when the vehicle passes the rear edge of my rear doors on both sides. I think they detect vehicles earlier than this configuration too. To me the vehicle in the vid seems to enter the BSM very late but this is difficult to discern at this angle (the vehicle is far on the outside of the mirror FOV). Since this topic started I've noticed I'm always picking vehicles up a little more than one car length away from my rear bumper. If there is an issue I think it will manifest in RCTA as well.

Curiously 9.8 feet forward of the bumper is at the rear edge of the front door.

Finally, the lights are mounted. What a pain in the a$$ that was. I had to cut the brackets out in order to get them mounted.

Might I suggest when you can, park where you can pull forward. Always the better choice.

Glad things are working for ya, I remember the driver display getting pissed when I forgot to plug in a sensor. Wanna have some "real" bumpers on my truck esp. for the people who love hitting my bumper caps.
If something does act up, you could always have em' calibrated.

Thanks for posting these updated videos @Motor71 . It is clear to me something is going on that has changed the BSM detection area and/or behavior. It is also clear to me that this is not the clipping issue I thought would occur. The channel looks like it is reflecting the rear facing lobe towards the front instead.

    Normal BSM:
    BSM Normal.jpg

    Flipped BSM:
    BSM Flipped.jpg
Have you tested RCTA? I don't use the feature so I wouldn't even know what anomalies to look for even if you posted a video. Based on your BSM video I would think RCTA will be adversely altered. I speculate RCTA is loosing its ability to detect vehicles in the cross traffic lane furthest from the vehicle, it may loose range as well if the rear node is designed to providing longer detection range. Take it with a grain of salt since I incorrectly predicted clipping. The behavior presented in the videos is worse than anything I predicted IMO; I don't need BSM to see vehicles next to my side mirrors.

I would ask the bumper manufacture what they think about your video. If it is altering BSM/RCTA they may have fix for it.

If the manufacture doesn't have anything to remedy the situation, my last resort (if I was in this situation) would be to consider swapping the sensors. The mounting points appear to be symmetrical I just don't know if the ECU will allow you to do so. From my understanding of the sensors, one is designated Master and one is designated Slave, I don't know if this makes them location dependent or if they are interchangeable.

Good luck, stay safe and thank you for sharing this information and your experience with this bumper.

@Saltyhero13. Am I wrong thinking the flipped BSM is actually better for the driver of a Tundra since that’s the actual blind blind spot where your red diagrams show?

I see your point. I think it depends on your driving preference, side mirror set up and how you use your sensor indicators. My primary are my mirrors, the sensors compliment that but do not replace them.

My diagrams aren't to scale nor do they accurately depict the actual node shapes and ranges. All I really know is there are two lobes, one perpendicular and one offset by 45°. The red lobes loose any detection rear of the bumper (which is where I want detection)

Based on the video evidence I think the OEM set up is better. The second driver side video shows BSM is on after the vehicle has left the frame; less useful to me.

Sensing further back warns of a dipchit coming up fast when ur signaling to change lanes sooner...
90* will warn thru the length the of a vehicle next to you, it'll be lit up all thru a blind spot.

Honestly, I drive just fine in my other vehicles w/o BSM or RCTA just feels weird when I don't have em'.

The passenger side sensor looks a lot closer to OEM. It's possible the sensor on the driver side is misaligned causing the anomaly we are seeing.

I'm in the same boat, I get by just fine with the mirrors. If you set them up right you won't have a blindspot.

I'm not a fan of the Tundra's BSM indicators. The detection range and area are fine, I think other manufacturers have a better warning system. The Tundra's indicators are hard to see sometimes. I've been looking to mod mine to be larger and brighter, possible even have the on the inside of the door. Considering how long this generation has been out, I'm sure someone has done a mod for this already.

I disagree and think that it is working just like factory. I have not analyzed the passenger side video but compared the driver side video with my own testing today.

with factory bumper (driver side) the BSM kicks on just as the front of the passing vehicle leaves the view in the mirror and the BSM turns off when the vehicle lasses the front of the truck. I tested this multiple times today and the video is nearly exact behavior as my factory. There may be slight variation but this could be from the different viewing angle of his camera and my head position. However they are both pretty darn close.

    BSM kicking on

BSM turning off (note the position of the vehicle under the mirror)
