    Hey Guys,

‘Road Armors back bumpers ARE BSM compatible and the black powder coated steel rear winch bumpers have a SALE that isn’t officially starting till 2/1 thru 2/14 but if you call in they will honor it now.

50% off so $1595 bumper NOW $795........ OR
30% off and a free winch

I jumped on it to get some real armor for the back that allows the use of BSM system and icing on the cake is it holds a frickin winch.

I spoke with Dino in their main office in Dallas

Are you sure they're BSM compatible and not just parking sensor compatible?

The BSM sensors are internally mounted and cannot see through metal bumper ends, so 99% of aftermarket bumpers won't work.

I like it. I got it for $800. Even if the original owner got it for $800 on the last 50% off sale, it still saved me $400 due to the cost of the Line-X. Painted and tossed on a set of 3/4 shackles today to see how I like it. They were $10.00 each at Lowes.

This is tempting, but I still don't like it hat you have to cut factory bracket in order to mount. Also does anyone have a pic of iton the truck with the BSM cutouts?

Dino assured me that the BSM works, he said there are brackets on the back of the bumper for the sensors.

Yes. I see you spotted the pic. They also claim "Sonar & Sensor Compatible" on their Features page.

I hear ya. I'm supposed to get new tires on Monday but may cancel for a bit. I have 2 of my 285/70 RG's that are pretty worn but the other 2 are good. They have one set of RG's that are 295/70's which are 10 lbs heavier and no noticeable size difference. Of course they said you won't notice a decrease in mpg since I am already running 285's.

I don't doubt that but I'll hold off until I see it installed and functional. The way these are designed makes me think the bumper will end up channeling the "sonar" in an undesirable way; its hard to tell without seeing all the dimensions and how deep the sensor will sit.

Depth shouldn't matter. They're mounted pretty deep inside the stock bumper shell as it is.

My worry is that the opening will restrict the view for the cross traffic alert. That's the feature I really want to preserve. Can't count how many speeding idiots in parking lots that has saved me from when I am backing out of a space.

TRD sway bar, matching mirror cover, 20% tint, esp aluminum box, Line-X premium, Undercover Flex tonneau cover, led interior lights, winjet smoked tail lights. Road armor rear bumper w/ road armor shackles, go rhino front bumper.
It sits between 2-3 inches in, almost like a step.

$1,595 seems awfully steep for a plain plate rear bumper that isn't even high clearance. It doesn't even have an integrated hitch. The sale price of $795 is much more realistic for such a basic bumper.

It depends if the BSM is a narrow beam or if it fans out. My understanding is the signal fans out but I don't know the sensors's full arc of scanning and detection. If the BSM arcs out, depth matters when the aperture is restricted; it can significantly diminish what is scanned and what is detected. In contrast, the material on the standard BSM bumper allows the sensor a full sweep with no restriction on either scan or detect; there is no aperture to block outbound and inbound RF.

An example of this is using a flashlight and seeing the light spread with no obstruction; this is the OEM setup. Now cut a square hole in some cardboard and place this in front of the light; this is this bumper. Move the light further away from the opening and see how the light no longer spreads out but narrows its sweep. Not only is less light going out but also consider that less light will be reflected back to be detected by the sensor as well.

Thank you. Is that from the surface of the bumper or the distance from the opening?

Everything Road Armor makes is expensive. Overpriced some would say, but you should go to their site and read the testimonials. You can see what their bumpers have been through and how they have protected the vehicles. Also, a winch capable rear bumper isn't basic.

I've owned Road Armor & it's overpriced. I actually cut it up & am using pieces of it for scrap when fabbing other stuff, it's that shitty. How many people put a winch in their rear bumper? 1 out of millions? And the people who would actually need to put a winch in their rear bumper wouldn't be buying that bumper. Moot point.

    Thanks Warrior.

If these are recessed I think the problem will be two fold. The first issue I describe above where the sensor arc is clipped for the inbound outbound signal; this basically changes the area of detection closer to a pinpoint beam vice a sweeping arc. For RCTA this is fine but it will shrink the area for BSM. I think the recessed sidewalls will cause sensor timing issues too; mainly due to reflection. Signals reflected off the sides will make the sensor think the object detected is further away than it really is since the signal is effectively traveling a slightly longer path. Probably not enough to make it a serious issue but an issue none the less.

I don't think the signal spreads fast enough for this to be an issue. Look here at the one that C4 Fab made for the Taco. Same kind of holes and apparently no issues with BSM. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/bsm-and-aftermarket-rear-bumpers.451366/page-3#post-13569582
