BSM compatible Road Armor bumpers on sale

I did buy the shackles and for $160 each you think it comes with a lock and key but no.

 

Gotcha. I saw a locking pin from Road Armor on line and that's what got me wondering. For that price they should be anti-theft. The pins were $100 for 2. 2 shackles and 2 pins would be $400....wtf.

I spoke with Road Armor today and there is a correction on the free winch included on their sale. The free winch for the Tundra rear bumper is:

Part Nbr: RA10801076
9,500 lb

It's a "foot forward" mounting solution and the base is mounted directly against the bumper. So, it's not upside down but rather mounted on it's side with the underside of the winch facing the rear.

Like that mfg. gave us RTCA guys a rear bumper option, still on the fence tho'.
I was told paint thickness on the bumper covers affects the sensor(s) and sometimes requires recalibration to work as they were designed.

Not sure. It is possible the paint (texture) could affect it. From the video it doesn't appear so. It's hard to tell how close to OEM spec this is working but it is working.

Check the installation instructions on their website - last instruction says to disable your BSM.

I'd like to get one that works with parking sensors, BSM, and RCTA if anybody has one.

 

There are two versions one with BSM/RCTA and one without. @Motor71 just posted a video with the bumper and BSM working.

 

I wanted to get a bumper cover resprayed cuz someone bumped it and marred the plastic and paint, my paint guy said that I should recalibrate cuz of the thicker paint and it'd be like $600 so just live with it.
Said I could getta deal on it if the tech was at the shop for another car...

Sorry, I didn’t make my point very clear.
If the sensors are calibrated while behind a cover and then used without covers/filters over em’ the readings would be wonky.

Plus having a pair of $1K sensors exposed.

I'm tracking. Your original bumper was damaged and the tech recommended against repainting. Some paints contain metal powders so I could see why the OEMs are plastic shells.

Agree with your last point. Though I do believe these are covered, I'm not seeing the writing that is usually present on the sensor face.

How would you reach it to free spool?

 

Did you just run your lights off of your reverse or did you run the harness and switch? I'm going to run the harness but I should be able to run straight down the frame rail hopefully. Haven't gotten that far yet.

 

I ran mine to the reverse lights, but I would like to add a switch and run it on its own.

 

I asked about that and @Motor71 said they are exposed because my question was they are 5” x 3” cutouts so you could use them for a step. Therefore is it possible if your boots are muddy could you slip and kick them and the answer was yes because they are not protected.

 

You have to reach under the bumper and the clutch handle would be on the right hand side facing forward.

 

@Motor71 did you get you bumper from Road Armor? If so, how long did it take to deliver from order time?

 

Yes, I did, I say about 2 months or so, I ordered in October and got it after the new year's. They claim the holidays slowed them down.

 

Good to know thanks... They are saying 12 weeks now because they claim there is a supply slow down for the raw steel material.
