My first FS was a 27.5 Giant anthem and I love that bike, fast, fun very nimble. Especially here in SW Michigan a lot of the trails are rooty. I decided to get the salsa 29er a couple years ago and yeah I was quicker downhill and a little easier Going up but It just felt a little slower all around. Especially in the technical sections. I have a trail that is 10 mins from my house and I usually try going there a couple times a week. I had constantly faster times with my 27.5. So for me it is about the being more nimble In the technical sections and 27.5 just seems more responesful.
I have a 29er HT that I use here and there. But my main jam is the FS.

Got a good shake down run on the new bike (about 18 miles). Almost lost a saddle on a rocky downhill, but other than that everything worked and rode great.

Well I found a new to me bike and am pretty psyched. In solid condition with tasteful upgrades. Doesn't really need any service, but I'm going to tinker a little and make sure hubs and bearings are all set and maybe upgrade the rear hub with the 54 tooth ratchet upgrade.

Got her in last Thursday and put together on Friday.

Anyone ever set stuff up to meet at a destination and all ride/camp for a long weekend or something?

Pieced together some wheels and got my gx stuff installed.

FunnHubs and Blackbird Send 1 35mm wheels wrapped in some maxxis tires. No pictures of the wheels installed but I’ll be out for a ride first thing tomorrow morning!

Anyone got some riding plans for the weekend?!

You go with the cascade link? What made you do that versus the spire?

Yeah, went with the Cascade link and stayed with the 205x62.5mm shock to get 165mm out back.

Biggest reason was I already owned the Sentinel. I’ve been enjoying it the last 18mo as a do everything bike at 160/150, but I just built up a regular Stumpy at 140/130, so I wanted to give a big bike a try for some of the chunkier trails. The Cascade link and borrowing a 170mm Zeb from a buddy was the cheapest way to try it out. So far I really like it. If I didn’t already own the Sentinel, I would’ve looked pretty hard at a Spire or Megatower, but after 1 ride I’m digging the beefed up Sentinel. I believe the wheelbase ends up being a little shorter and the head tube angle a little steeper than the Spire too so I think it’ll still be fairly versatile.

Cool. Good to hear your feedback. Sounds like it could be a killer. I was on an older sentinel (150 f/r) for a couple years and really liked it, but felt the need for more travel and was a bit skeptical of the cascade link changing the geometry too much. Enjoy.

My new Orbea Urrun 30. I've done 4 rides and 50 miles already. The e-assist portion is helping me enjoy the trails once again, instead of suffering and going home after a file miles. I give it a -25 score, as it erases 25lbs and 25 years from my body.

Realized I’ve been mainly using my hard tail and only rode my full suspension maybe twice this year. Posted it for sale or trade locally and ended up with a gravel bike. 2019 Trek ALR5. Drop bars aren’t as weird as expecting. Plan on new bar tape and more subtle bottle cages soon.

Just got my first ride in since the accident. Turns out my stamina and endurance is shot to all hell. Hoping to get two more rides in while I am up here.

    Got the answer finally:

Rim tape, tubeless valves, and the sealant. LBS in Keller usually gets a fast turnaround.

He rides all over DFW on that setup so it should work great for you.

You are welcome. I used to not long ago. I miss Texas but I am happy to be back in the Florida environment for sure.

Looking forward to riding when I get there. If all goes well on this road trip, I should have a ride logged in roughly 15 states in 60 days.. Fingers crossed

Evening ride yesterday. Got a little tired and sloppy about 2/3rds of the way down the rock garden section but my endurance is slowly building up. Hope everyone enjoys the holidays and keeps all their fingers!

We parked up at emerald grade and stated with mailbox and looped back up. Then we started with sweetness. Then climbed up to the water tanks and took something to cobb then rode all the way back to my hotel after that. We thought about going back to the tanks but it was like 7:25pm by the time we got onto 9 so we just called it there.

Nice, Mailbox is fun with all the jumps, the climb back up is a long one though! Cobb is definitely one of my favorites.

oh yeah, it was fun. Really wanna go back again and get the jump lines down. I was just mainly cruising through and checking it out. Climb out wasnt as bad as i thought besides being in the sun the entire time, everything in the shade was prime though.

I cant wait to make it back for a full day :D
