I really like the DHF, I bet you will be disappointed with the grip provided by the Dissector / Rekon if you are used to a DHF. I sacrifice grip for weight because of the longer rides, the DHF feels like a brick on longer rides but the grip is a lot better.

The only issue I have with the DHF, which I think it’s more personal, is that is either on or off. And in all honesty I find it’s difficult to turn it on my home trail. Faster trails…awesome. It corners much better when leaning, I do a decent amount tight upright off chamber turns.

I am also researching the Kenda Hellkat’s.

I always stick to Maxxis, not even sure why. I have heard good things about those Hellkat's though. I keep a wheelset with 2.5 DH DHF front and back for when I go to Mammoth or Northstar and I am climbing with the assistance of a chair lift, haha. The trails are pretty sandy though, so I think the DHF's work great there. I haven't experienced the on / off but I have read a lot of other people who have. I have noticed a gap in the cornering knobs, you really have to lean over with them to get them to hook up in a corner. I am always trying to get the lightest tire I can that doesn't feel like it is going to come out from under me. The 2.6 Forkaster was a great one for that. So were the 2.6 Rekons, I actually took the Rekons to Mammoth once when I forgot my DH wheelset and was able to keep up with my buddies still, but I did rip the rear off the rim in a turn because I had them at too low an air pressure to make up for the lack of grip.

Let me know how those Hellkat's are if you try them! I should probably try out other brands.

Here's my Transition Patrol MX (in blueberry) and my Blueprint Tundra. That wasn't an intentional matchy-matchy.

…I think I see some One Up Component pedals there…. LOL, I love those things. I rode clipped for 5 years then I transitioned to flats. I love the freedom on flats.

Yep, good eye! OneUp pedals as well as their stem EDC Tool, and some PNW Components grips (soon moving to their bars also). I've been riding flats for quite a few years now.. yeah, I lose some pedaling efficiency on climbs, but far less often do I fall over on the downhill side when stopping.. or dealing with wet roots or whatever :). It's a very worthwhile tradeoff.

PNW makes great stuff too. Last season I went from my stock 35mm bar to PNW 31.5 and their grips. The cockpit is much more compliant now with a minimal lost in control. Their grips are surprisingly awesome considering how simple and thin they are. I highly recommend both…F5BD8FB1-9F36-4AA7-9218-5A7DEABEC5CE.jpg

Coming from a complete noob......Is there a reason to stand a bike like this during transport rather than just laying it on its side?

    Thanks!

Same reason you wouldn't want a tow truck damaging your truck during transport.

I think it is more secure than having it slide around the bed or on a hitch mounted bike rack with a cable around it. Half of my bed can still be used this way with the bike in at also. I can carry multiple bikes without them banging against each other. I have thrown it in the back before but I would rather have it like this.

Ok awesome. That's what I figured but wasn't sure if there was some sort of no no with high end bikes. I like your set up. simple and effective.

It also saves your cranks from taking lateral force. Not that a crank would bend from laying sideways-but the bearings aren’t meant to take side-ways force(road bumps etc).

I just bought a thru axle mount from RockyMounts that locks and installs right in to your bed rails system if you have one. Although , like with most locks, with proper tools and time anyone could figure out a way to unbolt the they axle and take your bike. But then again, I see people use massive Kryptonite chains to their bike frame and they leave their carbon wheels dangling free. It’s more of a deterrent in almost all situations.

First ebikes for wifey and I. Nice to have the option to zip around like a moped if you want or turn down/off the pedal assist and use as a regular bike.

Question: I'm looking to get a couple of rockymount bike holders for the Toyota rack system, but I am curious how these work with a bed cover (I have yet to buy one). Anyone run these with a tri cover?

I liked my 2019 Enduro more than the 2020 for riding up and down hills. The Stumpy is basically a 150mm Pre 2020 Enduro.

Unfortunately I think they discontinued their AT line of tires because I cant find them on their site anymore. However, I was a pretty big fan of them especially at the price point of only line 50-60 bucks. I would compare them to a Maxxis DHF or Specialized Butcher. The MOPO rubber was definitely tackier than the T9 compound from Specialized or the Maxxgrip from Maxxis. The rolling resistance with them was incredibly terrible. I wouldnt recommend them for trail or all mountain just based off that. I could only run their LG1 (Enduro) compounds without issue. I tried many of the TRS (Trail) compounds and would rip off knobs within a dozen miles, but most my local trails are incredibly rocky. The semi slick tire they offer is a blast, super good corning grip and they roll stupid fast, threw one on the rear for Sea Otter this year and it was perfect. The new grappler tire e13 just put out this week looks amazing though, the Asagai was my fav front tire I have ever ran and it looks like a copy cat of that.

Running Specialized tires right now though because they have treated me pretty well lately…and are like half the price of Maxxis.
