or this...New bike day today for the wifey. I'm a little jealous. I'm really liking the DVO stuff. Never rode it before but just feeling it after initial setup had me impressed.

Whoa, Seriously nice bike for the wifey! It looks like a shredder. All my friends who have gotten Ripmos over the last few seasons became instantly faster on all terrain coming from other comparable steeds.
One of them had the Ripmo for two seasons, sold it at almost full retail and then got a new pivot switchblade. That really worked out for him. He’s equally fast on both bikes, but I guess at a certain point the bikes are all the same speed.

Yeah same DW suspension in the Ibis and Pivot. They’re close as far as
Handling goes when I demoed them. I have a Ripmo and built another one
For my son out of a used frame and parts I found online. My wife rode it and immediately asked me to sell her Ripley and buy her one. It was a good 4 month wait .

yes you can mount them on the bed rails directly but I have a shell so the bike sits too high. I need the fork on the bed floor.

Yeah I’d love to do that. My decked system prevents me. I’m currently rethinking it. I absolutely love it but it really does limit using my
    Truck as a truck.

true. It takes a lot of the space in the bed, even with a camper. That's why I ended up not getting one.

Crazy question (I didn't read 35.5 pages of chatter):

But has anyone considered using the two forward bed anchors as mounting points for a bike rack rail?

A (lockable) quick release on each anchor and a basic fork grab would make it easy to install/uninstall when needed.

    I'm new to cycles. FYI

Forward racks with forks at front of bed have been done. It’s just a pain climbing in and out or reaching of the bedside to attach for. That’s why most are
Loaded backwards, and nearly impossible with a shell.
But if you can make it work , post pictures!

I have for a long time been against removing anything to ride anything that makes it harder to ride is a barrier. So I live less than 10 minutes from the trails (conscious decision) and would never sacrifice having to do anything mechanically to my bike to ride (remove and reinstall front wheel) unless it was absolutely necessary. I say if you have to use a rack make sure it is tray style. If you’re mountain biking and have a truck get a shuttle pad. They’re my preference. I also have a 1up for the non trucks and when my camper is on. And I guess if you have a shell or are also towing something and have a toneau then maybe those are excuses for fork mounted racks too. Ultimately fork mounted racks just take up time and set you up for an unwanted mechanical.

I have 2 friends that have both have similar set up's to what you have described. One drives a tacoma and the other a drives a tundra. The lower bed anchors are removed from the bed then a metal pipe, cut to size with tabs welded on either either ends are placed in the location of the bed anchor. The bed anchor is placed on top of the tabs then the rack and bed anchor are screwed back into the bed. The metal pipe has clamp mounted quick releases on it. This set up is mainly used for road bikes and keeps the bikes low in the bed with the front wheel removed. You could easily modify this type of set up to be removable.

Personally, I use the bed rail with quick release mounts and through axle mounts to hold my bikes. The bikes ride a little more proud out of the bed, but they're not above the cab in the wind.

So what system do y'all suggest for a crewmax bed that doesn't require front tire removal and easy load/unload? I don't have a cap or shell. I do NOT want a gate mat. I'm okay with something up to $300.
