Found my entry level craigslist bike.

Just need to get her cleaned up now, all components appear to be in working order.

Any recommendations for getting the tiny rust spots off the handlebars? Maybe some mothers polish?

I got enough peddling to give my ass a ride when I was a kid! When I got my first car I said I would never ride another bike, unless I had too! So far I haven't had too:)

There is one on Ebay that I have my eye on with Ultegra instead of Dura Ace for 2300. My Felt Z85 is still in great shape so it's hard to justify.

I've been wanting to get into mountain biking, if that's the correct term, what would be a good entry level bike that can last a couple seasons and get the job done on the trails?

The bike world is very much like the truck world. You could probably be just fine on a pretty inexpensive hardtail but we all love modding and getting more bike than we will ever need because of the cool factor. Go to any reputable bike shop and get fit for a bike. A lower end bike that fits you will be infinetly better than a bike that costs 10k that doesn't.

Welp, this one was a bit small for me but it was great for learning what I like / don't like and need / don't need. Can't ask for much more out of a starter bike.

Sold it for what I paid and placed a order at my LBS for a Specialized Crossroads Sport (going to be my ride for short neighborhood trips with the girlfriend / bike path adventures). Also plan on eventually adding a more fitness oriented bike to the collection such as the Jamis Coda Sport for when I just want to get out and log some miles by myself. Wish we had the landscape here for mountainbiking.

Went to the bike shop today and looked at the Trek Domane and the Specialized Roubaix. Awesome bikes but couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger when I still really like my Felt so I bought some new tires, tubes, brake pads and bar tape and went home. Installed the goods and now she rides and looks like a new bike again. Even better, it only cost $175 instead of 3.5k. Before y'all hate on my MB pedals, I have to have flat pedals because I use this as my transportation a lot during the week and I can't wear cycling shoes while in uniform.

BlueFalconActual: Can't blame you for the hesitation. You have a nice bike brother. I am the same way...notice my Orbea, still using the old reliables, Ultegra 6600 groupset (see the shift cables not under the bar tape?). I love that bike. It may be the oldest bike in my bike club but it still allows me to keep up with the peloton without issues; even pacing the group at 25-27mph with a head wind and able to hold it for at least 10-12miles. Anyway, I was not planning to get the Pinarello Dogma F8 but surprise!! the wifey bought the frame and brought it home one day. She has seen me looking at the frame online but for 22yrs of marriage, she knows I will always hesitate to pull the trigger on it so she did.

darkknight2014: When people asked me the same thing, I've always told them to get a bike from an actual bike shop (recommend Trek Superstore or Pulse Endurance) and buy "as much bike as you can afford or are willing to shell out". Highly recommend to never get an entry-level bike with entry-level components. You don't have to get the most expensive bike on the floor but search around for the frame, frame material and component groupset. Choose a bike that will fit (recommend professional bike fitting) as well as choose a bike that will fit the type of mountain riding you intend to do. You get what you pay for so I strongly recommend not to skimp if you don't have to. I'd recommend also to go ahead and get a full suspension (w/ front and rear suspension) bike instead of a hardtail (w/ front suspension only) as your first mountain bike. Many choices to choose from: cross country, trail, all-mountain, enduro, downhill. As you progress into racer status, I highly recommend considering a hardtail or even a short travel (cross country) full suspension mtn bike.

Mine sit back here in the Tundra and my 1Up rack stays on the LR3. I don't normally have to transport my bike to ride as I'm surrounded by Nat'l forest, two preserves and one regional park that are within a warmup ride to get on trails.

Awesome thread! I love cycling - mostly dirt, some gravel. Used to ride road a lot but lost a great friend a few years ago to an impact with a distracted driver in a car, so no more road for me. A couple in my fleet...

    Niner RLT gravel bike

Bocomo custom steel SS hardtail with Onyx hubs

    My favorite: Trek Stache 9.8

My race bike: Lynskey Pro29 Ti SS

My Wife and I also ride an off-road tandem a Ventana ECDM

    I love mountain biking....!

    Tundra-less
So this just happened... Cruising Ebay and I saw this beauty. 2015 Felt Z5 with full 5800 and upgraded Ultegra wheels and brakes. It was used, but still had the warning stickers on it and the original white bar tape was still clean. I "felt" I got a smoking deal for 1000 bucks. Now I just have to wait for him to ship it to me.
