I considered them before, then I saw the future and all the dick jokes potential, my buddies would never let it go and tires last me a few years. I went with Mickeys instead at the time.

I have no input on current BFGs, when I bought tires early this year I did a lot of research and reading reviews on both the KO2 and KO3, some reviews scared me off so I researched other tires like Falken and Yoko. The one thing in common on all the stuff I read was they all had mixed reviews, unfortunately it's so damn hard to get useful info. Good idea posting here to see what owners of the same truck experienced with the tires.

I ran the KO2s for years. They are good tires, lots of traction and very versatile. That said, I was getting a lot of sidewall failures. I switched to cooper stt pro and went up a size from 35 to 37s and I haven't had any problems for the last year.

    37s in a 17" wheel are only $300/ea

Also, those are 13.5 wide, check the price on 12.5" wide

The only thing I noticed about going to 17s is the load rating on some tires. 18s have a higher load rating for some reason over 17s most of the time. The km3s in 37x12.5-13.5r18 are E-rated vs the 37x12.5-13.5r17 which are D-rated. So I’m not sure if that makes a difference in how the sidewalls hold up when wheeling or in everyday use since the E-rated can support more weight and are designed to be on a heavier vehicle which in turn might make them last longer and handle more abuse. Does that make sense to anyone. I’m going off of logic here, but I’m no tire expert. If anyone who knows more about tires can confirm or deny that, that would be great. I know the nitto ridge grapplers are similar in a way except for the 37x12.5r17s are D-rated and the 37x13.5r17s are E-rated. Then the 37x12.5r18 are E-rated and the 37x13.5r18 are D-rated.

The Patagonia M/Ts have been receiving some great feedback from the Jeep folks. Not sure how they fare with the weight of a fullsize on them.

I want to get new tires and I know @Spolar has them and I’m highly considering The Patagonia.

I think they will be too soft. Tires that do well on Jeeps, tend to not work on our trucks.

My biggest problem is chunking and lugs falling off. 2DB02E42-08F5-4582-83A3-B84E7E675BD9.jpg

I’ve got so many spots like this on my STTs. The Patagonia’s are a softer compound. They might do worse for all I know but I actually think the softer tires will do better with chunking and definitely better grip for crawling. What I’m worried about most is punctures on higher speed stuff. They will wear faster too but I don’t daily my truck so I’m not too concerned with that. Plus I damage my tires before I wear them out anyways. Would be nice to wait to get a good assessment from Zac but he’s been really busy lately and hasn’t been wheeling much. I’m pretty sure I’m just going to go for it and give them a try.

Give 'em a shot. Part of the reason the Jeepers like them is that they are fairly disposable. Being so cheap, you won't cry so hard when the sidewall gets cut.

I'm on the fence about some X3s. They seem pretty popular with the HD crowd. Last time I was out in the forest, I saw many HD trucks with red letter Grabbers on them.

Both have the same sidewall construction. Google the difference between load D and E. It has to do with the amount of volume in the tire and the overall size. Take two tires that are both 35" diameter. One is an 18" wheel and the other is a 17". The 17" will have a greater air volume. This means that the sidewall will be slightly weaker because there is a larger surface area that has to contain the air pressure. Also, the larger air volume means the tire will support the same load at a lower air pressure.

There are some exceptions. I think the old BFG KO have a 35x17 with two different sidewall constructions because they offered both load D and load E. The load D was a lighter tire so obviously there was a difference.

All the 37x17 tires I looked at were load D becuase the air volume is huge.

What truly matters is the max load rating. Smaller max load rating means the tire will not be constructed the same.

Honestly if you're doing that to the same tires that I'm running then it absolutely has to be due to your driving.

There's a reason I don't do donuts and I keep my traction control on at all times to keep from going sideways on the trail.

I'm a fan of keeping the tires planted at all times...

This was a pretty informative page about all different tire load ratings what they mean and how everything works and how to calculate what your specific trucks tire load range should be. It does make a difference on tire failure especially if you air down or in general. But as for wearing out faster it didn’t say. As for the bfg km3s the load range d 37x17 have a max load range of 3525 lbs vs the load range e 37x18 which have a max load range of 3970 lbs. if your like me and have a bunch of camping gear and armor weighing you down or tow a lot your better off looking for a e rated tire IMO. Read this page and decide for yourself. Really you need to know the weight of your truck with all the shit you have on it and do the calculations they give you on the page and go from there.

That's after like HEAVY, AGGRESSIVE off road driving. Most will not even come to 5% of what those tires have gone through. Cooper STT Pros are also quite pricey.

I’m definitely not light on my tires. I always turn off traction control and I do spin my tires a lot. On purpose. :D That pic is my rear tire that just rolled 20k. 20k of wheeling hard and just going and coming from trips. No DD miles. But my fronts are brand new and I just got a little chunking on the last trip. I barely even got into 4wd on that trip. So I’m not sure I can blame the traction control or donuts on those.
