    Yes, for most.
But to avoid the knucklehead factor it does help.
And many prefer to not drop their headliners.

The mounting brackets are design to wedge into the drip rails. The front and back of the rails help keep the mount from sliding forward or backward when the truck is in motion. With all 6 mounts install properly with the rack, each mount work against each other to keep it in place. (you asked what you do mean???) the design of mounts is to hold itself in place with the roof rack. If you were to try to lift or push the rack up the opposite side will not allow you to lift it up. Because the opposite side is tuck inside and downward toward your lifting position. so you can not lift it up. Now moving forward since the front or back of the drip rail is manufacture smaller in width than the middle. It actually help keep the mounts from moving forward or backward when the truck is in motion. In lams term you can take a round hole and try to stick a square block into it, it won't fit! As for testing most after market companies only do field test beside the big company have funding for it. I hope this help clear some un-answer questions for some of you guys. If you are here in Southern California I would love to meet up with you so you can see it for yourself.

I get it, those narrowing drip rails and contoured wedges are your saving grace. I bet those other hack-a-roof concepts wish they had thought of this! Good stuff!
