God that Yoder is awesome! That’s the one I was looking at minus the comp cart. I just can’t seem to justify that price point. Not that it isn’t worth it..but I don’t know if I wanna go that high.

I also checked out Rec Tec today. Wish I could see one of those in person first too.

I have the 590 and had it for the past 3 months. I actually bought it for my Dad as a gift but I tried it out a few times before giving it to him. Customer Support is top notch as they are out of Georgia but are made over seas. Little bit better heat consistency than my old Traeger and made a little bit better. They are nice units for the money. Made a little better and heavier than the Camp Chef also.

A local Ace Hardware is a Yoder dealer. They had the one ai got on the showroom floor and it was marked down about $600 below what you see on Yoder's site. It made it the same price as the YS640 without the comp cart. Saved $315 shipping also and came with a few accessories so it was a no brainer. They are trying to clear them out as the new YS640S is coming out and should be shipping and hitting show room floors any day now.

With all the saved money, I will buy the new WiFi controller once it is released and have the same thing as a YS640S.

I have had a small Traeger 20 that I got at Costco 18 months ago for $350, I wish I had gotten the next size up for $800 for the larger grill surface and larger drum. For normal cooking for me and the wife, the unit I have is perfect. One day I want that Yoder 640.

I don't really have any complaints with it. Had a firebox problem after 5 years and Traeger did half price on a new box and it came with one of the new controllers. I use it year round and even though it's moderately covered it lives a rough life.

Got a Big Green Egg 2 years ago and love it. Ditched my weber kettle, my gas grill, and smoker with an offset firebox. I use the BGE for everything. Love the fact that for long smokes once I get the temp set I can go to bed and not have to get up every 90-120 minutes to check my fire like I used to. I can also grill on it and it makes a great pizza oven.

Yep, this is the shit!!! $650 delivered by Lowes, smokes at 160, grills at 500+, all quickly if you want it to. 2 meat temp probes built in.
Also sears over open flame if you want.
Holds 35# of pellets - not many negatives that’s for sure.
I’ve used it almost every night for the past 30 something days I’ve owned it.
Highly recommend the PitBoss Pro 1100 at Lowe’s.
I have TriTip going on tonight.

And yes, I didn’t want to take it out the back of the truck while on vacay LOL

    It’s the best $650 I’ve ever spent.

I haven’t used my Webber Charcoal or Webber Genesis since the PitBoss was delivered.

My advice, is pickup a unit that can smoke and heat up to temp to grill.
Asparagus, Broccoli, burgers - you can all cook quickly, with more flavor.

Yep I have been back for about 2 weeks and used it about half of that. Mostly for grilling so far. I did smoke some brats and chicken thighs. When I get some time I will be smoking some pork and I want to do some salmon. I know its pretty daggum heavy, no wonder you left it in the truck.

I spent a lot of the spring debating also what grill. I was really tired of replacing burned out 400-700 dollar gas grills every few years. My co-worker told me about his Yoder Competition640, and how awesome it was, but the price he told me was a huge turn off. About 6 weeks into the deliberation, I stopped into a store that sold a lot of different grills. Yoder happened to be one of them. As soon as I lifter the lid on the YS640, I basically told the sales guy to take my money.. Those things are SOLID and built to last. I couldn't swing the competition cart, but it has a SUPER cool factor to it.

My wife also struggled with the price until the first brisket came off of it. Now a huge fan.

Yep, mine with cart is about 460 lbs. it is an awesome machine. Not cheap but so glad I went ahead and spent the money.

    Cry once, Buy once......

I have had a handful of the mentioned pellet grills and smokers mentioned above. They did well and served their purpose. However, the food wether it is grilled or smoked coming off the Yoder is next level. I have no explanation as to why but everything is so much more juicy and tender and the smoke taste and balance is perfect.

One of the best things I have spent money on, besides my 19' Platinum Tundra!!!

    That’s exactly why LOL
Well, and I had to start cooking in the AM prior to everyone arriving, and I was the only person at our place. No pulling that thing out solo!! :D
In one week I had done brats, ribs, salmon, beef jerky, elk, deer, steaks, shrimp, wings.....veggies are my favorite!
Seriously - everything has gone on it every night if we’ve eaten at home.

ETA - wife put the tri-tip on too early today. Damnit!
    It’s 155 and dinner is 1.25hrs away.
    Ouch.

Daggum you have been busy! If I remember correctly my boys told me something like 160 lbs?!
My buddy gave me his recipe for chocolate chipotle brownies that you cook on there. The kicker is you smoke it a little then finish it of by making it on there. I've had it before, it rocked!

Love my green egg and my Traegar Pellet grill. I also keep two webers around for 'quick cooks'. If you go with a BGE I recommend adding the "BBQ Guru - it is a temp management device that kicks serious ass. It has held my egg at 225 (long brisket cook) for 21 hours. Either way - get out there and Smoke!

I currently own one similar to this. The one i have was purchased from Academy back in 2013. It's about that time for it to go though. Harsh winds this spring toppled it over twice. The burners are rusting out. My only gripes are the thin sheet metal panels and the inconsistant heating temperature when using the gas side. Other than that, i've enjoyed being able to go both wa.....i mean having the option to use gas or charcoal....

That's about what my wife paid for my Pit Boss. I think she paid $539 plus tax, yeah your almost there. Perfect for you, cant answer that one. Its damn near close enough for me though.

Bingo! I have two friends with the $1300 Treager Elites, and they couldn’t believe the PitBoss was $650 assembled, delivered, and cooks the way it does :D

I think the Pit Boss is an excellent value for the money. If I had decided that I simply could not swing for the Yoder, it would have been the Pit Boss. In my research, I remember reading (didn't confirm) that the guy that started Traeger now works for Pit Boss designing grills. They seemed to be just a little more robust than the Traegers of the same or a little higher price points.

    @Larmand
    @RLHOK

Also Char Grill has smoking pit that has two sliding racks that pull out, that I like

Also read something online about chimney stack should be in middle or kinda below where meat rack is???
