This thread really helped me out. I voted stock for now, but ordered an X2 Power by Northstar 27F from Batteries Plus today! Getting it in preparation for a 12v fridge for camping. Also plan to use the fridge in my wife's Pilot for less rigorous tarmac trips. Now to get the appropriate always on 12v outlet wired up, and decide on a fridge. Then no more soggy sandwiches (I hope).

Dear Grizzled Battery veterans. I have a 2019 CM that has or will have the following on it:

    20 inch LED light bar
    12,000 winch (Smittybilt XRC Gen3 12K)
    Fog lights
Air Compressor for rear air bags
    50 watt GMRS/HAM radio
@mattgecko under hood LED and truck bed LED lights
2x rear Rigid 1x2 scene lights on back of rack

At what point do I need to consider a duel battery setup versus a single Northstar or Odyssey battery? I am a total rookie. None of the items listed above are used daily together. Meaning, the GMRS radio would be on, but I would not be using the winch or the light bar, or the winch and light bar could be on at night time, but the air compressor and rear LED or bed LEDs would not be in use. Thanks for any information and explanation. If there is a single battery solution, I would like to go that route first and see how it goes, so let me know what you suggest.

I started with the single x2 power northstar 27f from batteries plus. I wanted to start slow and maintain a mostly stock configuration. If you have the dough go dual battery though. I’m building my rig slow and felt 92ah was enough for a start.

Your goals sound more dual battery territory. If I was doing such a heavy build I’d go for the genesis off-road setup.

That battery fit in the tray ok? I was looking at it but the listed dims were bigger than the stock battery. But it did look like the battery narrowed down near the base, so I was unsure. Either way that is one heavy battery. Thinking of going with an Odyssey simply because of that.

No problems with the battery fitting the tray. I’ve seen videos that upsize the battery, but I stuck with the stock size 27F.

Went with the Odyssey 34R-PC1500 with @sdhq_offroad billet terminals and hold down. Gonna upgrade to their new dual battery setup down the road.

Current info from each company per their websites as of Oct 2019. Given this information and the fact that the Odyssey is $304.87 and the North Star is $289.95, do these numbers sway any of you towards one over the other now?

North Star data listed below Odyssey although the post looks like one big picture.

Are you doing the smaller battery than stock because you’re doing a dual setup? I don’t quite understand why you’d pick the 34 over the 27f otherwise. This is the x2 power by northstar’s numbers. Available at batteries plus.

Unfortunately had to go with Interstate. Not that it's a bad battery. My current battery was dead and needed to be replaced asap. No b&m stores in the area with Odyssey, otherwise I would've went with that just to keep with the red & black theme :D

Got an Odyssey yesterday from 4WP with their no sales tax sale for $300 incl the plastic spacer tray. Could have got a Northstar X2 for about the same price from Batteries Plus with their recent 20% off sale but I thought it was just too heavy.

The OE battery performed fine in the cold temps I was in last week, but at 5yrs, I wanted to replace it before it went downhill.

Did anyone fit a group 31 odyssey battery... The battery box specs seem to work, but will need to remeasure it.

Not sure why the 34 or 25 groups are an option since they are much lower Amp Hours than stock. but YMMV..

But in reality the g27 is 92 ah hr and the 31 is 100 ah hr which should be enough for just the truck loads.
I'd like to do a dual setup but they all use the smaller batteries so you are not gaining much AH Hr capacity. Ideally 2, group 27 or 31 batteries would be perfect.

Will probably go with a DC charger for the house battery (redarc looks nice) and locate in the rear.
I have had a northstar before and had no issues, my other trucks have Odyssey though.

Unfortunately the Costco I was at only had the H6, H7 or H8. The 27F was not AGM.

Agreed. 24f and 27f typically have the same CCA between like batteries. 27f just has a larger reserve capacity. Unless you’re using power without the truck running a lot, a 24f is fine.

If you consider yourself a hardcore off-roader I say 34R due to battery boxes being available. I went with the 27f which does offer more power but I cant find any battery boxes/cages for that size.

If I could do it over I’d probably get this battery Odyssey Batteries 34R-PC1500T Automotive/Light Truck and Van Battery https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008FY5UF8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_LuKKEbS92A4HD

You can run it without a spacer if you use sdhq hold down bracket or there are a bunch of cages for it to bolt it down to where that fucker won’t budge
