Damn son that sucks. I wouldn’t want to polish anything with a torn rotator cuff. Might skip the correction and go with something easier till your feeling better. Maybe some griots 3-1 ceramic just to protect the paint if I was near you I’d hook ya up.

Anyone ever trim a pad for a rotary? I made the mistake of purchasing 7.5" Lake Country blue hybrid wool pads for my Dewalt rotary and meant to return them. Had to use the Dewalt on the last job due to my Griot's G9 throttle lock breaking off mid-job so I used the 7.5" pad (it is amazing by the way) and now I can't return them due to using them. The Dewalt backing pad is 6" and I'd like to trim at least an inch off to adjust the overhang of the pad but still have enough protection from the backing pad's edge. Anyone ever trim a polishing pad and have it hold up to use? I assume I may get 1 or 2 uses out of it and a wash or two before it frays and destroys itself at 1600 RPMs lol. I'm out the $35 it cost anyways, but just didn't know if anyone has done so before.

seems like a lot of ppl in this post use Griots. I've used chemical Guys for a number of years now and have quite a bit of their products. Is there a particular reason that you choose Griots over other brands?

Griots makes great products that you can get most of locally. Usually the people that switch from chem guy are looking local. A couple of their products are good but usually you can find something that preforms better for around the same cost. If you want to start ordering products this will open a door to much better products I would check out shine supply autogeek and detailed image. If you read threw this thread you will get recommendations for pretty much everything. If you have specific product questions or need advise let us know.

So I pulled out my 2002 tundra carpet, vaccumed and I am wondering if there is any problem with taking it to the car wash and using the pressure washer there? Is the soap there okay or just use my own?

Thanks. Will be drying in a very hot, dry environment.

Ok, going cross-eyed reading about different DA's and kits. Need some guidance. Think I've decided on a Griots G9 kit, not sure which one. Anyone wanna chime in on the best "all-in-one" kit? polishing, little paint correction etc. I have a ton of detailing products, mostly meguiars and some 3M polish and compound (these 2 bottles are not cheap). I'm wanting to get things to the point of being able to get a ceramic coating applied after I do what I can and then likely have to have things like the hood and front bumper painted before I can. I'd go with Adams but cant justify the price as of yet. Thanks!

Need to re up some creams thinking of ordering this kit. Any opinions out there on these pads or should I just build my own package? For reference I have been using lake hdo pads and they have been great but I’ve heard good things about the boss line as well.

The only thing I don't like about the kit is that it has the 6.5 inch pads and not the 5.5 inch. I have all of the 5.5 BOSS pads and really like them. They do seem a little less aggressive when compared against similar pads of other brands. For cutting, I've gone to the Buff and Shine Uro-Fiber pads.

The kits are nice, and you do get a bargain. Most, however, do not come with enough pads to get the job done, even for a small vehicle. Since you have compound and polish, I'd just pick up the polisher and some Griots BOSS pads. Autogeek has a good deal where you can package different type of pads together and save some money. Just out of curiosity, what had you considered for either a sealant or wax....or are you going all the way to a coating?

I haven't gotten to that point yet. Baby steps...I haven't read up on sealant. I have numerous types of wax. Most recently I've use meguiars NXT tech wax 2.0 on my flat black. Read about it on a single stage search/ forum. Already had it in the inventory so why not. Seemed to do the trick.

I'd really like to get to the point of ceramic bit being an older truck there are a lot of imperfections that need tending to first or as I see it, it'll be a waste of time and money. Can't just throw that shit on with average swirls and rock chips from being a daily. The super expensive stuff is in the house.

Does anyone have recco on sealant?

I got a bottle of CG Hydroslick Ceramic Hyperwax as a gift and I applied it yesterday even and WOW! I have to say I'm pretty impressed with how easy it was to apply and it definitely makes my black truck shine! I'm curious to see how well it holds up after washes and driving.

So I guess my question is, is there any other product I can add, like a sealant or glaze that would increase the shine and protection? I was going through some of the different CG products and curious if anyone's applied anything after the hydroslick and what kind of results they saw.

So I had this coating done when I bought my truck, should have just saved the coin, because you're right on the "I'm highly doubtful that the dealer does any legitimate paint prep prior to application, however, so all of the lovely dealer installed swirls are nicely preserved for you."

I took it back as I did see some swirling and upon first wash, they only did half the roof... o_O After taking it back, and them "re-doing" it, which only took a few hours (ummm??) I gave up and took the loss...

I did a decent correction on it last month (see my "Black paint love" thread) and I believe it seemed to remove the coating, as I was able to rid a BUNCH, if not all swirls. Its not perfect, but for me, I'm happy now.

    Gimmicky product IMHO...

Simple green then soap and water. Used a brush to scrub. Then some shine supply trim shine. First time I have tried it on wheel wells. Any tire or trim shine should work out okay, I just really like this stuff.

My Tundra has the Simoniz Glasscoat on it. I bought it because I live on a dirt road with a dirt driveway so no chance I was going to apply myself. I have been using Beadmaker as well and love the stuff. Now my question is do you use anything like a spray when you are drying your truck off after a wash when you are not using Beadmaker and if you do will it affect the Beadmaker. I was thinking something like Griots Speed Shine.
