Just wanted to share my experience Brake Buster. If you were in the south NJ area, I'd probably give you the rest of it that I have, and here's why. Does it work?....yes. At full strength, I found it very effective for even the dirtiest wheels, but it left a residue. Diluting it reduced both the residue and, obviously, the effectiveness. I never seemed to be able to quite get it right with this product. I know others have had this same experience, while many more others think it's the bomb. Maybe it's a bad batch or maybe user error, I don't know.

For the record, I've switched to Sonax Full Effect for really dirty wheels, and Optimum Power Clean at different dilutions depending how dirty the wheel is. Once you have a wheel clean, coat it and you'll not need more than soap and water to clean them.

I haven’t had a residue issue with it, but I’ve diluted it from day one. There are products that clean better, but Brake Buster is cheap and safe on all surfaces. Though several products advertise that you just “spray and rinse”, I haven’t found one that actually works that way. Since I have to scrub anyway, I haven’t seen a reason to use something more expensive and harsh.
Poorboys Wheel Cleaner and P21 are stronger, but seem to need more effort to rinse off.

What are you coating wheels with? I’ve tried Shine Supply Beadlock, McKee’s 37 Wheel Coating, and Waxaddict Wheel Coating. None seemed to make much difference long term. Honestly I’ve had the best luck with Superior Cover All on wheels. It does a good job, but it’s greasy and not incredibly long lasting on wheels.

Like you said though, it may be user error.

I've had good luck with the McKees....but had better luck with Poor Boys Wheel Sealant...but that stuff would be a royal pain on an intricate wheel. To be fair, I boost it a little by hitting them with Bead Maker after a maintenance wash. CarPro Dlux will be next....just waiting for some warm weather to try it out

Sorry to break the news, but that’s not getting fixed with a polisher. You’ll have to replace it.

Honestly wheels are such a hassle to clean, and they get filthy again immediately. I don’t spend a ton of time on them. You can look at just about any of my photos and see that the wheels and wells are still dirty. Just too little reward for me to make a lot of effort. It’s the one area I’m pretty lazy about. Generally I’ll rinse them as well as possible with the turbo nozzle, and maybe spray some cover all on them.

Wife’s 2017 Black Accord is covered in water spots and tree sap. Since I turned our garage into my shop we both park outside so I wanted to do her car first and then the Tundra with you guys suggested best ceramic coating.

That being said I need something that will clean the wife’s car prior to application. What is my best option?

Whats recommended for the clear plastic over the gauge cluster to both clean and not scratch it up?

For tree sap - unscented hand sanitizer...if you can find any. You can also use Rapid Remover, which I think is actually an adhesive remover

Water spots - depends on whether or not the spots are etched into the clear. Hondas are notorious for having super thin clear coat, so if they've been there for a while.....they could very easily be.

I clean mine with P&S Interior cleaner with a very soft microfiber. I've heard of folks using Meguiars Plast-X, but I've never been too torn up over a few light scratches on my instrument cluster

Unfortunately I think they are etched in because you can feel them. I have tried to hand compound them out without success. I hate it because we went to the Honda store and she picked out a new 2017 loaded v-6 (last year for v-6) and then I told her you are always so cool with the trucks I pimp out I want you to pimp this out. So she picked out rims and we ordered some American racing wheels, tint blacked out. It’s frustrating because we got her all hooked up and she loves her car but the dang sap and water spots are all over hood, roof and trunk.

If you just want it clean, stay away from chemicals. I can’t remember what I used and I scratched and smudged the lens. I finally tried Meguires Plastix and it took all scratches and smudges out.

Did you do any decontamination on the paint? Some of what you may be feeling could be other bonded contaminants

NOI haven’t, and again thanks for your help and advice.
I think it’s apparent to restore her paint properly and then protect it I am going to need a polisher. In my wood shop I have DeWalt,Porter Cable and Bosch tools in my shop and have had great luck with all including Porter Cable so I was contemplating purchasing the Porter Cabler 7424xp.
From there I was searching for the the “qn on” listed in the video (Removing stains on the caddie hood) but have also seen mention here of Meguiar’s product. That being said don’t know what pad / material to use because the car has a lot of swirl marks as well.

My goal is to try and remove water and tree stains along with swirl marks and then Ceramic coat when finished since it sits outside. Once I get her car complete I will tackle the Tundra meaning cleaning and Ceramic coat as well.

So a list of items needed to complete her car from pad colors and qty’s to chemicals in order of use would help in me not purchasing the correct things and not purchasing things I don’t.

One last comment I googled “Best Orbital Polishers” and the Porter Cable came up as well as the Griot’s polisher(which I considered) they also listed a $40 Black and Decker??? Thoughts on this

The weather is nice and this will give me something to do while we are in the Pandemic.

I'm never shy about giving advice....but I'm far from an expert. If you get an account on a strictly detailing forum, say like Autogeek or Autopia, you will get tons and tons of different answers to the same question. I can tell you I've had very good success with Griots polishers, and highly recommend them. They have plenty of power, and a lifetime warranty.....tough to beat by any standard. If I were you, I'd be picking up their new G9, get the 5" conversion kit, and then some of their BOSS pads. Autogeek sells them in 6 packs, which you can mix and match and it saves you money as opposed to buying them separately. Their BOSS creams, are color coded so you know which pad to use with them.....pretty fool proof. Of course, any good detail starts with a good wash and decon.....whole 'nuther can of worms. Keep in mind...the rabbit hole known as detailing has only one way in and no way out

Just ordered the G9 with BOSS material and 6.5” pads and Griot’s car wash. Thanks for the advice now it’s hurry up and wait time.

Good call on the polisher.....at some point you'll want to switch to the 5 inch backing plate and the 5.5 inch pads. Since this is a free spinning DA, they will give you better pad rotation. Which Griots wash did you order?

Welcome to the dark side just the same....life as you knew it...is over

@briarpatch you crack me up, I started ordering stuff and next thing you know my cart had $400+ in it. I had to go back and take everything out except for the G9 kit and the wash. I figured when that stuff comes in I can run up to the auto parts and buy some microfiber towels and another wash mitt.

Another option is buying a pack of the yellow microfibers from Costco. You can get a pack of 36 towels for $16. Definitely not as plush as my Rag Shop towels but better than a t-shirt.

A lot of the guys here don't care for them all that much but I use them one time on the truck then throw them in a box and use them for other things around the house and office.

Too funny...takes like zero time to rack up a big total when buying this stuff. Check out Pep Boys if you have one local, or a NAPA store. They have a lot more detailing stuff than they used to
