If they have a 5" at a similar price, go for the 5, or get a 5" backing plate. Multiple retailers will recommend 5 instead of 6.

It has arrived! DPC Shield "ceramic" coat

I also picked up a 5 pack of "jack 16x16" 500gsm plush mf towels that he sells. They are super soft but idk about quality, we will see how they do.

Hopefully I can try out the coating soon.

Wow that does sound amazing. No joke on the price though.

I picked up a nanoskin 6" fine grade clay pad that can be used on a DA or by hand for $16 yesterday. I think I stole that thing, only one left in the clearance bin at the parts store. Not sure I'll use it on the DA but reviews are solid. I have just about everything needed to prep and coat the old Chevy syrup truck. I'll take pics as I go, maybe in the next couple weeks I'll get started.

I’ve been a little leery of trying a clay pad on a DA. I worry it could mar a lot easier than a mitt would. Also, how do you know you’ve gotten it all without feeling it as you’re working? Hell of a price though.

They have a 4 oz bottle for 15 bucks. Cheaper up front, but I think that’s twice the price per ounce.

I was thinking the same things. I think I'll end up using it by hand, I'll make a velcro strap for it.

I had a $20 home depot credit, and they were having their "ryobi days" sale. I ended up getting 2 new batteries with a charger and small carrying bag, came with a "free" tool so I picked this cool mini blower. It has a rubber chute on it and will be used to blow out my garage and help dry my car. Worked fine in garage and to blow grass off my walkway.
I'm not expecting much as far as drying goes but should be nice for door jambs, mirrors, gas doors, grill, badges and those tough to get areas. Might test it out right now actually. So 2 new 4ah batteries, charger, bag and blower for $79 shipped to my door. Not bad IMO

I have the Milwaukee version of that. Doesn’t do a ton for car drying. Maybe small areas like you said.

I just washed my truck and really and pretty happy with it to help in the small areas. Those dope badges hold a lot of water, handles too and this did actually help quite a bit.

    On another note,
I am doing a test on that DPC coating right now. Doing mytailgate, so far i washed, IronX, clay, wash. Gonna polish it now then coat it. There are no deep scratches on my tailgate so no compound needed.

Washed with reset for the 1st time. Very slick and leaves a nice finish. Very little suds though. Is this normal?

Anyway. After i washed I decided I just could wait any more to try the DPC shield ceramic coating. So i decided to test it out onmy tailgate. I used IronX, then clay mitt, then wash and dry. Went over the panel with megs 205 on a megs MF cutting pad. Buffed and wiped down with eraser. Then carpro essence first with a lake country hdo orange polishing pad, buffed, then essence with a LC hdo black finishing pad. Wow did it add some gloss. Then buffed it clean, no eraser as essence can be used as a primer and jeweling layer directly in under ceramic, I didnt wanna lose that glass.

The DPC shield is very easy to apply. I used a few drops on a MF applicator pad and that was enough to do the whole tailgate. I applied it in a cross hatch pattern then circles then cross hatch again. It looks very oily when you put it on and it never really seemed to set up,have, rainbow...as per directions i waited the max 4 minutes to see of it started to haze, it did not. So I then "leveled" it with a short knap MF towel, this just evens out the coat and knocks down high spots. Then a minute later I buffed with a plush MF towel. I will apply a second coat later tonight.
Super easy to apply other than all the prep work. It looks nice and shiny and did not leave steaks or high spots. Needs 24 hours to fully cute so we will see how it looks tomorrow but so far so good

After polishing...there were no significant defects in the tailgate

Shield applied and not leveled yet. You cam see it looks oily and streaky
    20190607_174305.jpg
All buffed off. Shiny but not slick, needs 24 hrs to cure though

I'm fine with being a dork. I'm keeping my truck for 15 years or more and plan on taking care of it. Keeping the paint nice is as important to me as changing the oil on time. And yes, my truck gets dirty but I have time to clean it and at this point it's become a hobby for me. I've spent close to $1,000 on detail products this year alone but I buy gallons that will last me years. Not just the truck but my wife's pilot and the kids vehicles. Actually relaxing and rewarding for me. To each there own.
