What speed setting should I use with the G8 for cutting and polishing with a 2 inch pad?

I've not used my G8 for doing any correction....but the lower speeds on it are not particularly useful. Something in the 4-5 range I'd think...although I've also never run a 2-inch pad on mine

Called a local detail shop just to see what they charge. Clay and ceramic coat would run me $1000, if I need paint correction it would be $2000 is it really that extensive to get my paint back to new?

Some places do charge that much, but you should be able to find someone cheaper. Look for a smaller company. I’d bet a one man shop that’s hungry will do it for less than half of that.

If you’re inclined to try it yourself, you can get everything you need for probably $400.00- $500.00. That includes a polisher, pads, and chemicals.
Without the paint correction, the materials to clay and ceramic coat are less than $150.00. (Not accounting for products needed to wash the truck. You’d also need a detail spray to use as clay lube.) Most of the cost is in the labor, and it is a good bit of work to do.

I would highly recommend a paint correction if you’re doing a ceramic coat though.

Has anybody attempted to polish plastic trim? I've tried everything on this motorcycle part. Solution finish helped a little. I have SEM trim paint but I've heard this can be polished after some wet sanding.

He gave you these prices without seeing your truck? Did he say what coating he was using? I'd love to be able to get that much for a wash, clay and ceramic coat. I was only getting a fraction of that for a wash with a full decon (clay + iron remover), sealant and basic interior cleaning. My hope is that he was coating the wheels and plastic trim as well.

Yeah, he wants to come look at it on Monday and give me a better quote to see if I actually need paint correction or not.

If he is coming to you, then I say go for it. Hear him out, make sure he takes some time with you. I'd be interested to know what coating he is using.

Believe it or not I use a heat gun on plastic. With a flat black part like that part, a little heat, and it will turned smooth and shiney. You have to be carefull though. And I don t expect it works on all plastic.

Kinda got the detailing bug after cleaning up the wifes car and the truck this weekend. Fixing the clear coat is kinda intimidating, but i dont think I can make it much too much worse.

My plan was the HF DA polisher and Griots Complete Compound. Working up to the fine pad and then wax/sealer. Gonna clay bar and try to remove all of the grime/dirt this next week. Thank baby Jesus for this tread and YT.

I personally love griots speed shine and you can pick it up local. I just ordered griots ceramic speed to try no clue how it will do with clay yet.
