Even though we had a mild winter here in southern NJ last winter, there were still times when washing was a challenge. I typically pay little attention to Greg from Mastersons (formerly Greg of Chemical Guys), but here's a link to a pretty solid video showing how to wash your car at the local coin op. In the video, he uses the two bucket method, which I stopped doing some time ago. I use the multiple mitt method, but that is up to you. I bring a bucket with a lid, with my mitts and my wash solution ready to go. His video should give you some ideas how to get this accomplished.

One additional tip I’ll give is to try and use the coin op when no one else is there. I had an issue a couple of years ago when I washed my truck at one. There were several other people there and I didn’t realize how much dirt and crud was being blown around in the air by other people. I picked up a few self induced scratches that day.

Going when it is not busy is key. People get very impatient, and sometimes downright indignant, especially when they see the buckets come out.

Thanks for this, but I don't think you can even relate to this. Our weather gets so cold for so long, that the ground is frozen from Dec.-Mar. and is solid ice down to 6-8" deep. You don't dare run a water hose on the driveway as it freezes into a skating rink in seconds. Think frozen Tundra! Sorry but couldn't resist. I am able to connect my water hose to my trouble sink in the laundry room and route it outside. Warm water isn't an issue for me. I can deliver it to the finish, I just can't keep it from freezing.

Just saw your questions about brushless......they are better, but the issue is the soaps they use are very harsh....they have to be. People show up with a dirty vehicle, and want to leave with a clean one. If I were in your situation, I'd be hitting the brushless if I did not have a coin op nearby, and get that salt and crap from the roads off my vehicle. You will break down your wax/sealant quicker, but to me it's better than leaving that stuff on your paint.

Recently paint corrected with menzerna po85rd, polished with blackfire gloss enhancing polish, sealed with blackfire sealant, topped with blackfire midnight sun wax. Just recently purchased carpro reload and was wondering if I can/should use it as a quick detailer after washes.

Reload is better used as a sealant. It damn expensive and a waste to use all the time. Check out elixir

Will do. They are supposed to arrive today, I'll report back with initial impressions. I hope they are at least half decent. The 2 drying ones at over 23" x 63" alone at that price would be great.

The $16 set of Amazon towels showed up. Initial impression is that they are quite soft, decent thickness, with none of the catching snaggy feeling that some cheaper towels can have.
Just opened the box so no idea yet on absorption or performance, but the drying ones are pretty good sized.

So my regular dealer wouldnt even look at these spots. They said since they dont do collision, I need to go to a "Toyota body and paint shop". I called Toyota Corporate and they steered me to one.
The body shop said Toyota is extending the paint warranty for a lot of vehicles due to similar issues to mine on the body of the car, not just in the jambs.

Anyway, The body shop manager runs the truck back, and comes back 10 minutes later for me to look at the truck.
He said he took a little compound and buffed away all the hundreds of little rust spots. We chatted about it and I guess somehow some small pieces of metal got embedded in the surface of the clear and rusted.

The big ass glob of crap on the top of the jamb? bird shit.

I felt like a total idiot.

Right? It's the calling card of my people!

I tried getting it off with detailing spray but it was hard as a rock and honestly looked like a bubble in the paint. :violent:

And, I'm a little pissed. Now those towels I just received from Amazon have been lowered to $14.67. Only a bit more than a dollar, but still pisses me off.

@War Machine we just bought a 4Runner pro for the wife’s vehicle. Every lug nut has the manufacturer’s torque paint on it. Any recommendations on what to use to remove the paint but not streak the matte black wheels?

I haven’t tried it, but I’ve heard the Rag Company recommend using acetone for paint overspray removal. Supposedly won’t hurt auto paint, but not sure what effect it will have on wheels.

If it were me, I’d try this first. Seems safer:

Thank you for the input. I am ashamed to admit this, but I asked before I put any real effort into removing the factory marks. I was frightened of using the wrong product and discoloring the matte wheels. Turns out a little bug and tar remover sprayed onto a micro fiber towel removes the marking fairly easily. I do appreciate the reply.

Lexol is the best. I’ve been dealing with leather seats for 30 years and have always used it. It will even soften up hardened leather. Amazing product.

OK....i tried searching but I'll just ask y'all here. I'm utilizing the auto geek 25% off sale and am getting some lake country pads. mostly need polishing and maybe light compounding pads...but most of it should be in polishing since i don't have any heavy water spotting or swirls/scratches in my clear coat. I'm getting a 6 pack of the pads and haven't used theirs yet. which combo of the pads should I get to fulfill the 6 pack. I was thinkin white and blue maybe (3 and 3), but wanted some other input. maybe blacks and blues (3 and 3)?

Which Lake Country pads? There are multiple types. If you've little correcting to do, and even with that you do not need heavy cut, I'd go with two cutting pads, three polishing pads and one finishing pad

I like their HDO pads. Orange and black is what I have. I also have yellow for cutting and its pretty good. I also have one of their wool cutting pads. You can't go wrong. I have not tried their MF pads yet though
