I have a very similar setup on my 2018 with 295/70/18 and I tow a travel trailer very close to the same weight as yours (roughly 7k loaded). Since installing the bigger tires I have towed my TT once and yes I could tell a slight difference in power but nothing that I believe would warrant swapping the gears. The trip I towed my trailer on required interstate driving and I know its not the best idea but I generally tow running about 70mph lol and leaving the truck in 5th gear. With stock tires I generally could keep it from down shifting except for large hills. Towing with the bigger tires obviously it likes to down shift into 4th a little more often, but on relatively flat ground it still pulled in 5th gear just fine. And honestly if I slowed down to 60-65mph I think it would stay in 5th gear with very little down shifting.

So all of that to say in my personal opinion I would not be concerned with needing to regear after installing 295/70/18 tires. It may burn a little more gas, but it will still tow just fine.

I have also noticed a drop in mpg during general driving too, but I rarely track my mpg so I don't have much to compare it too. This past weekend I went on a 3 hour trip running 80mph on the interstate and the computer showed 13.5mpg.

But all things considered the truck looks soooooo much better that overall I'm still thrilled that I decided to install the larger tires on it!

Your tires are an inch smaller than the OP is asking about though. 285/75/18 is the question

This is the exact information I was looking for. Thank ya much, my man.

Which specific tires are you running? The 34” ridge grapplers I was looking at weigh 60lbs apiece, so I imagine if the tires you are using are 70lbs each or so I may just end up going with your setup for towing.

I'm running the Cooper Discoverer AT4. I have been very happy with them so far. They ride great and have a more aggressive look then most all terrain tires.

Finally got my 285-75-r18 Goodyear Duratracs installed yesterday. Looks really good on them. About a half inch sticking out.
Current setup is TRD Pro Fox shocks, removed front mud flaps due to one being torn in half (don’t know how it got torn before), and no other adjustments. Slight rubbing on the back mud flaps at full lock reverse (only on right side). Little power loss compared to the Michelin’s, but drives well.

I am surprised that you're getting that much poke without them.

yeah I just wanted a little to stick out, but nothing like the 295 tires which would weigh even more.

Great look on the Tundra! What lift did you go with? I'm running the Bilsteins 5100 on all four corners. Truck is leveled. Again your Tundra looks amazing. I would probably go with a 285 75 18 tire. Any advice would be appreciated

    Hey all,

I had 275 70R 18 Ridge Grapplers on for about 55k and just went up to the 295 70R 18 yesterday. I have a 2” level in the front and Air Bags in the back. It’s crazy how quiet these are when they’re new. I don’t see myself moving away from the ridge grapplers anytime soon. New England snow up here in NH can get brutal and the RG have handled it with no issues.

A bit off topic here, but what length RCI rack did you get? And does it feel secure being clamped in under the bed rack? Or did you drill into the bed side caps and bolt it in, too? Thanks!

I bought the 12” high rack and the tonneau adapters. I drilled into the bed to bolt it on. I have a dual fold hard cover and I can’t raise it. There’s a Decked storage system in there and the 10” I have I slide pelican cases and rifle cases in the space available. I’ll get a hard rolling cover soon. I transport firearms to and from various ranges so it works out perfectly. I also affix pelican cases to the rack for additional storage if I need it. I took out the back seats and made a platform so I have a good amount of cargo space available.
The RCI wasn’t my first choice but it was the least expensive, now I can’t imagine getting anything else. I’m very pleased with it. Wicked stable and solid. Last hunting season I slapped a rooftop tent up there and camped near the hunting locations. The rack feels like it’s mounted to the truck frame from the factory: solid.

I put the rack on after the decked but the pics show you the space between the cover and storage system. If you’re thinking about the RCI, go for it. I mount everything to it as I need and it’s pretty easy.

awesome, thank you for the detailed feedback! Was the RCI rack the 54" (for 5'-6" bed) or 58" (for 6' bed). I've seen the 58" fits on our crew max so just curious. Looks awesome, man!

Also, my apologies to everyone for hijacking the thread for a few posts :hattip:

    No problem man!

Mine is the 54”. There’s plenty of room for the 58”. I would have selected the 58” if I could go back in time, but I’m not one bit upset about it.

Hey guys, sorry to bring an old thread back up but I have a 17 TRD PRO (stock) and got some 285/75/r18, just wanted to make sure that they will fit without any mods (except the removal of the front mud flaps)? Any input would be great!

yes, they fit perfectly fine. I have stock trd pro suspension. No additional lift, no spacer, I probably didn’t need to move the front mud flap but for some reason they got ripped in half prior. You will like them. Looks great. I think it’s the perfect size doe the tundra.

Fits well, I have tiny scraping on front sway bar at full lock and full flex, I'm also running Yokohama X-AT, being really happy with them.
