    Exactly what I was thinking.
I ditched my 2018 6.2L LTZ Silverado last month because the dealer could not seem to fix the erratic climate control issues after 4 attempts at solving the crazy hvac system. It would go crazy and blow fire hot on the passenger side and ice cold on the driver side.

This 2020 Tundra has a significant amount of tech features the Silverado didn’t offer last year and a few things they still don’t offer.

Just noticed your platinum came with Bridgestone tires my 2020 came with Dunlop’s. Same wheels just seemed odd Toyota is using 2 different brands of tires on line.

Fender flairs which I wanted since I am going with larger tires and wider rims, and I just like the look.

It had some sort of protection pkg, a safe in the center console, black tube steps, tinted windows, connectivity pkg.
seems like I am forgetting something. But I think that was it.

What head unit is this? Do you lose the ability to change vehicle settings, such as door unlock settings and drl on/off?

If that is an option your wanting, I would try and figure out what region offers that option and search on Auto trader or cars.com for trucks in that region.

IE. I like the fender flairs, well that would seem to be an exclusive option to the gulf states region or the distributer from that region is the only one offering it.
So I searched those states in that region for trucks with the core color and pkg I wanted then dug into them 1 by 1 till I found ones with the fender flairs and then started emailing the dealers about availability etc.

If that is a port / distributer installed option, it could be only found in a specific region like the fender flairs are only seen in the gulf states region.

I have noticed that some regions don't hardly ever add anything at all to the vehicles, and others like gulf states tend to go wild with the add on accessory items.

I totally agree. The whole port/distributer thing seems a little crazy and an out dated process. To think that a vehicle built here in the USA still has to go through the regional distribution / port channels like they did way back when they were actually imported.

The gauges absolutely are back lit... The button that you use to cycle through your odometer and trip meters is actually a rotating dial that acts as a dimmer/backlight switch. All the way counterclockwise and the your cluster is as dim as it will go at night and the gauges only light up when the park/headlights are on. About a quarter turn clockwise, and the gauges will still be at their dimmest during night use, but it will flip a switch and the gauges will always be back lit, which is helpful for daytime use.

What year do you have or are you referring too?
I know 2017s are only back lit if the head or marker lights are turned on. I researched this issues quite a bit, both on the forums and at the dealership service department.
I had a 2017 personal use Platinum model Tundra and a 2017 ext cab long bed SR5 delivery truck in my business, which I still own the 2017 SR5 and neither of them had back lit gauges unless the lights were turned on.

I've got a 2017 SR5 DC. It's the small "pin" that sticks out from your gauge cluster. I'll double check and make sure I'm not drunk, but I'm 99% positive that you can turn the light on during the daytime. Like you stated, with the back lighting off, it's hard to see during the day time. I'll snap a picture on my lunch break.

I went out and double checked my delivery truck which is a 2017 SR5 double cab as I mentioned.

That knob only adjust the lighting on the center info screen when the headlights are off.

To back light the gauges fuel, speed etc. you have to turn on the headlights.

I decided I better double check myself, knowing if it had been that simple the dealer service department would have said so.

It does work like manual describes to a degree, it does so only when the headlights are turned on manually if it is light outside.
If you want to run the headlights in auto mode during the day when the headlights are off the back lighting is off as well.

Definatly not a blown fuse on two 2017 brand new Tundra's. Besides I brought up this issue multiple times with the local Toyota service department, specifically asking for a resolution to this issue. When the 2018 came out and resolved the issue, I even went back in to see if there was any way possible to update my 2017 trucks to back light the gauges like the 2018s. Maybe something as simple as updating the software in the computer sort of deal. Every time I was told they get that complaint a lot but there was nothing they could do.

Back when I first bought those two 2017s, I really thought it would have been a simple fix since the lights are in there, all I need was for them to somehow tell the trucks computers to turn them on without having to turn on the headlights.

Having completely forgotten to check this when I went to lunch, I realize now after thinking about it, I think you're correct. The only light that brightens with the lights off is the info screen. Once the lights are on, the HVAC controls and other stuff light up as well, and are also controlled by the odometer dial.

It's actually worth it to travel to the gulf states and roadtrip it back given the discounts and extra options.

Didn't you have a Tundra then traded for a 6.2 GM 1500? If so curious why you switched back

I recognized your land cruisers, so hopefully this doesn't come off random :)

Good eye, yes I did, long story short, the HVAC system in the Silverado went haywire back in July and after multiple attempts the dealer had made to fix the problem it was still not fixed, so I asked my GM sales rep to get me a buy bid for the truck, it came in only 3k less then I paid for it last year, so I took the deal and cut the Silverado loose.

I then went shopping and researching and spent that past month looking around at was available and it seemed as though Toyota had fixed about everything I disliked about my 17 Platinum, with the new 2020 model, so I started to watch the car sales website like Cars.com and auto trader, along with a few dealer websites, for the 2020s to start landing at dealer lots, soon as I found one in the spec I was looking for, I was able to make a deal on it last weekend and picked it up Monday.

I would say so, the dealers in NW AR are far more aggressive to want to earn your business then my local dealer has been.
Plus like you said the gulf states region quite often has the better options and spec trucks then my mid west region. I drove 8 hours round trip to NW AR now for both my 2018 LC and my 2020 Tundra, funny thing is they came from different dealers in that same general NW AR area. Both were nice easy sales process too. I bought the Tundra via text and email from my smart phone. I only talked to the sales guy 1 time to give him my CC info to put a deposit on the truck.

dang sorry to hear about your troubles on the Silverado, glad you didn't lose too much on the buy back. I'm always curious to see why people switch back, as everyone seems to bash the Tundra for being dated.

Sorry I just read through the whole thread, if I went to the last page I saw you answered my question :)

Thanks, it all worked out for the best. After getting back into a tundra I remembered several things I had missed while in the Silverado.
Turing radius is noticeably better in the tundra, the seats are more comfortable in the tundra, the back seat area is much larger yet the overall outer dimensions are smaller. I noticed right off when I got the tundra home and backed into the garage I could actually walk behind the truck easily without squeezing by it like had to with the Silverado.
Now with all the new tech updates, it sure feels like a more modern truck then the 18 Silverado.

I like the looks of the tundra a lot especially once I get my tires and wheels upgraded.

The 19 Silverado has a lot of improved features over my 18 and lot of new tech too, but that new Silverado has to be the ugliest truck ever designed. No way would I ever buy one. It might be ok to drive, but no way would I want to look at it everyday.

Fords are nice but I like seats a lot better in the tundra.
Ford also irritates the crap out of me with all the eco boost little v6 turbo crap. I am big v8 guy all the way when it comes to gas powered trucks.
I am also a diesel guy which I love my big Cummins powered Ram, it’s a 2015.

The Tundra’s 5.7 v8 sounds so much better the Ford eco boost trucks that sound like a hopped up hairdryer.

New Rams a really nice, just not sure I want one till it’s been out a year or two to let them get the bugs all worked out.

Seriously!! I prefer a hard copy (CD) over a system that requires internet/WiFi. I don't know how that would work when traveling out of country, like Mexico.

Same here. That was one thing that kept me out of a Dodge Ram. That and it being a Dodge.

Not sure, unless something Changed on the 2019 Rams you could still get a CD player. My 2015 2500 Ram has one.

agreed, biggest selling point for me to get my 19 and not get a used low miles 17 was the gauges are so much nicer.
