Curious how the new features work and if they’re worth the hype

So that can not work also on their crappy head units.

I haven’t closed the deal yet, but I have spent about 2 hours with the 2020 Platinum. The new head unit looks pretty good. Apple CarPlay works well, but you have to use the left most USB port for it to work. There are two other USB ports under the head unit. The backup camera looks to be higher res than my 2019 4Runner. I like the cleaner look of no front antenna, plus I don’t have to remember to remove it prior to going in the car wash. Push button start is nice. I have it in my 4Runner so I’m used to it. The only other change that I haven’t really been able to mess with is the app based truck interface. Supposedly I will be able to remote start, see fuel level and the truck’s location on an app.

How much are they discounting the 2020's vs the 2019s? Having pushbutton start sure is nice

The truck I’m looking at is being discounted $5500. I’m looking to lease through my business so the higher residual makes the 2020 more appealing. I believe there was a $1500 rebate already on the 2020.

I just closed my deal on a 2020 Platinum the dealer got in as I was finishing up a deal for a 2019 Platinum. As Cabinetman said, I too was able to negotiate $5500 off MSRP. The backup camera is much clearer than the 2019 and the head unit with Apple CarPlay seems a little crisper / louder at lower volumes. So far, the Apple CarPlay has worked seamlessly, yet I’ve not tried to download the app for remote start or utilize the WiFi hotspot. Keyless entry works just like it does on 4Runner Limited models (from what I can recall). All in all, because I was coming back to a Tundra for work / towing needs from an FJ Cruiser, it was worth stopping the 2019 deal for the 2020. I’m not sure I’d get a 2020 if I already had a 2018 or 2019 I liked though.

Do you think they’ll run 0% financing on the 2020’s anytime soon?

I don't know if it is because my truck came with the SR5 Leather Upgrade package or not but me steering wheel was leather/leatherette wrapped instead of the plastic steering wheel everyone complains about. It is very similar to the steering wheel on my 2012 Taco.

2020 Radio / multimedia head unit update. After a 200 miles highway trip, I can say with confidence the clarity and loudness of the new unit is much-improved over the 2018 Tundra. I was able to keep the volume between 9-12 at 80 mph using SXM and hear a more full, even sound - more like in the Sequoia and 4Runner, than I ever could in my 2018 Tundra. It still doesn’t beat an aftermarket head unit, yet it’s much-improved.

I picked up my 2020 platinum yesterday.
First time I think I ever bought a vehicle almost entirely via text and email all via my I-phone.
Mine had a lot of the gulf states Toyota extra options MSRP was over 57k.
Still got out the door for 50,250. My 17 model only had a 1250 rebate late in the model year, my new 2020 had a 1500 rebate first week on the lots.

Loving the new features. Other then surround view cams it now has about every feature I wanted, and sorely missed having on the 17 platinum.

Similar wheels and tires are on the way for the 2020.

I think Toyota maybe slow to change things, but I am thankful they have continued to improve the comfort and tech features the past few years.
Even though the updates seem minor to many people, I for one love the new tech. I like this 2020 a lot better then my 17 because they made these needed updates to the tech in the truck.

No more CD slot. The stereo sound actually isn't half bad. It does clip on the bass when the volume is turned way up with the bass maxed. A lot louder than my stock stereo I had in my 2012 Taco. The android auto is a nice touch and is easy to use.

As others have said, no more antenna also.

I'm actually test driving a 2017 tomorrow, what features did you find that your 2017 did not have that you got with the 2020 beside the push button start and hidden antenna? Just curious, thanks.

A lot of my main complaints/concerns or irritation was actually resolved with the 2018 model.

The gage cluster was a big problem or irritation for me with my 2017.

The gages in the 2014-2017 models do not back light unless the headlights or marker lights are turned on manually or its dark outside then the automated headlight system turns on the head lights. So you cant see the gages worth a darn during the day time, especially if you tint the side windows.

The info screen in the center of the gages looked like a nice modern color screen, so I thought when I test drove it prior to purchasing that 2017. However after getting it home, and driving it a few days, I was surprised to discover that it had almost none of the common info found in most vehicles, at least nothing hardly there that I was expecting to find there.

So the gages were really my big hang up on my 2017.

2018 also drastically improved the headlights with LEDs, both Fogs and Headlights.

Some minor things that came about in 2018 models were the newly added safety features.
The 2018 has Toyota safety sense along with radar cruise control, all very nice features but not really irritating that my 17 didn't have them.

The keyless start is very nice and since I had it on my Land cruisers since 2008 and many other vehicles over the years, with the Tundra having to dig for keys again was a minor annoying thing. Again not the deal breaker that the sub par gages were for me.

Funny thing is the 2007-2013 Tundra had back lit gauges along with almost every car and truck built has constant back lit gauges. Why Toyota decided to not to back light the gages in 2014-17 I will never know, but they fixed that issue in 2018 along with some of the other things I mentioned. 2020 resolved the rest, with the only exception being surround view camera's, I love that feature on my 2018 Land Cruiser.

Wow, seems like you guys are getting some great deals right as the 2020's are hitting the lots. I'm in PA and I'm still waiting to see some more Platinums at the local dealers.
