I get the numbers...all I can say is drive each one. I remember my 3rd gen going over a hill hitting 5,000rpms struggling to Go the speed limit. That’s one of the biggest reasons I got a tundra.

Usable power, in real world driving the 4.0 beats the 3.5 hands down. On paper yes the 3.5 numbers look good until you look at torque curves. The 3.5 is a car engine not a truck motor.

Well, it may not be a Tacoma. It’s a 94 Toyota pickup with 67k miles on it. Which I bought from a neighbor for $3500.

We did, and then traded the Tacoma in for a 4Runner. Honestly I wish we had traded it for a sequoia but my wife didn’t want a car that big. It’s nice to have the enclosed storage for trips and such. Dog likes the roll down back window too.

Had a 2001 v6 4x4 Tacoma 5 speed and have a 2014 Tundra. I loved that bare bones Tacoma with no power door locks and roll up windows...I shouldn't have sold it, but needed a full size for towing. I didnt like having anything over 3500lbs behind the Taco. Those HP numbers people keep quoting for the new Tacomas are misleading...the power is in the wrong place if you put any load behind them, all up top. Those 3.5l are great for cars and SUVs, but not a truck that is expected to haul.

I bought my '98 in 2008 with 100k on it. Couldn't give it up. Up until I bought my '15 CM, it was my work and off road truck. Now it's delegated to nice, off road days. It's lifted, geared, locked and supercharged. And it's a 5 speed.

I traded in my 2010 DCab Tundra for a 2017 DCab Taco. Now I'm trading that in for a 2013 Tundra. Need a bigger truck, and trying to reduce monthlys. I have loved the Taco, but am psyched to get back into a Tundra!

I had a 2016 Tacoma TRD off-road and as an off-road rig it is way better than my 2014 crewmax Tundra. EVERYTHING else the Tundra hands down beats the Tacoma. The "turd" gen Tacoma was one of the most irritating vehicles I have ever owned. ANY and I mean ANY load on the engine and the transmission would hunt for gears for miles. Even after the dealer reflashed the pcm it was junk. Save yourself the headache and get the Tundra. This is coming from someone owning both.

I actually loved my 3rd gen. After my battle with Toyota to get the flash upgrade, which I won, it ran much better. I had to commute weekly for three years for a job, and the additional mileage was welcome. Killer off road and in snow, and really liked the tech upgrades. Gonna miss it.

The Tacoma is a 5 speed, probably considered a relic nowa days.

15 Tacoma and a 19 tundra here. The Tacoma is a total work truck though. 5 speed and hand crank windows. I kinda dig it.

I have a 99 Tacoma that was my DD for 8 years. I got it 10.5 years ago, February 2009. I wheeled it everywhere on IFS but I was tired of breaking CV axles. I Sas’d it in 2014 and still drove it daily.
It’s taken me everywhere. I bought it with 100k and it now has 245k miles.
It’s been on the Rubicon, The hammers, Table Mesa and Florence junction, Moab, Windrock, Katemcy, and more.
It’s got the original engine. 2nd transmission. Original rear axle.

I had my first child in June of 2017 so I bought my Tundra in October of 2017. I needed more doors and figured it was the right time to buy something that would tow my Tacoma well. It wouldn’t have made sense for me to finance something that didn’t meet all of my needs.

Currently in the process of cab swapping my Tacoma because I rolled it on Memorial Day.

I love my Tacoma and I’d probably still be daily driving it if I didn’t have any kids. It’s a great rock crawler and still a very reliable truck. I wouldn’t hesitate to get in it and drive across the country.
