I brought my truck in for the fuel line recall on Saturday 3/16. Filled up the truck on Monday 3/18, drove about 250 miles and on Wednesday 3/20 my fuel gauge said full and distance to empty said 518 miles. Anybody had the fuel gauge issue come up after doing the fuel line recall?

I don't think the fuel line recall will fix the gauge problem.

Took it in today. The fuel line recall work caused the gauge issue and a burning smell. Apparently when they did the fuel line recall some connection was loose and caused the problems. Just an fyi if anyone else this may happen to.

I started my lemon law paperwork yesterday. Had to mail Toyota a fix it in 30 days or buyback/replace letter per the law in my state. Mine resets to full at least 2 times per week.

Thanks for your service SSgtOB1. I’m a vet as well.
This is a safety hazard. If you run out of gas on the highway at about 65 mph HOW DRIVABLE IS THAT TRUCK AS YOU WEAVE YOUR WAY THRU LANES OF TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE SHOULDER WHILE DECELERATING?

keep track of your gas with pen n paper, sad

I just had my interim fuel line fix yesterday and filled up after. So far the gage seems to be tracking properly and has not reset to full or anything like that. But I will monitor it closely for awhile.

Does anyone know if there is a permanent fix to this issue yet? I've read several posts on this and can't seem to find confirmation that there's an actual working fix that the dealer can do.

I have a 24 Tundra Limited TRD off-road and once I hit 3/4 tank, the gauge switched to showing full. I've only had the truck for 1 week and I'm still on the first tank of gas. None of the temp fuel gauge resets work for me (ie: turn off the car in D). I made an appointment for this week to have the dealer take a look, but I'm not sure what to expect from them.

Not that I’ve read or heard anywhere. Still happens if I park in the driveway but haven’t done that for awhile. My Dealer won’t even acknowledge it as an issue. They Play Dumb when I mention it. When you shut down in D, you want to push the start/stop just once. (Dash still all lit up) You want to leave it in IGN mode for about 10 secs. Keep an eye on your oil press and fuel level and you’ll see them reset together. Then shift to N or P, restart it and Go.

Mine is pretty consistent at 3/4 tank and I shut it off, restart will show full tank. It doesn’t happen when it gets down to showing 3/4 tank, again (second time at 3/4 on the gauge for the tank), until I fill up. If I’m on a longer trip and go further down than 3/4 tank it doesn’t reset to full…only when it actually is at 3/4 tank when shut off. No drastic driveway angles, either. Happens on flat parking lot at work..or anywhere when I shut it off with 3/4 tank.

Only way Toyota wants to get through this is lemon law!!!
3 years now and engineers don’t have a fix. Unacceptable.

NHTSB needs to get involved before there is a serious accident or death. Lawyers will be ready with all the back history. This problem. Sad. Toyota is better than this.

How many times did you have to take it into the dealer decide you were able to play the lemon law card? Mine is having the same issue and I’m willing to take it there with them if they can’t (and won’t) be able to fix it.

Nobody said that? 3 years to fix a gas tank!! It’s not the engine or transmission!! This has to be a software or sending unit issue.
How about you try to put a piece of tape over your gas gauge for the next 2 years so you can’t read it. Same thing we are all dealing with.
Toyota has never contacted me about the gas tank problems. I had to go to them n call every time.
If u know they are working on a fix at an elevated pace and level then share some of your insight because all of us tundra owners don’t have a clue of the company’s position.
Over 4 months and the best they can do is still ONE KEY. SINGLE point of failure in the supply chain. Must be a chip made from gold n diamonds.

Hey everyone, first time user here! I bought a 2024 Tundra limited yesterday. Brand new, 7 miles. My gas gauge went from 3/4 to full after it sat parked for about an hour. It’s been weirding me out all day. Googled it and found this forum.

All you ‘22 and 23’ folks talking about trading in for a newer one because of the issue…evidently it’s still an issue!

Make sure you take it to dealer n get it documented w lowest mileage possible. Track your gas w pen n paper. About 400-450 miles is about the limit for full tank. Check your state lemon law. After so many attempts they will have to buy it back and you will be in a 2025. Mine was over a year.

    Lots of stuff!
When I was in getting the temp fuel line fix, I asked about the fuel gauge update. They didn't know what I was talking about. Then they said that Toyota hasn't provided them with the tools to upgrade the software yet. The SA said maybe 6 months so something this summer which means nothing since he was just pulling that date out of his butt!

I called my dealership and told them about an hour ago. They said they will get back with me tomorrow when service is back open. I’ll be all over them. No time for the BS!

So I was told my truck would be retitled and sold again at auction with known defects.
So why don’t they take my truck back to factory in San Antonio and let designers, engineers, and fuel tank specialists use it to try to solve the issue?
We all hv the SAME PROBLEM.
Just like Boeing n FAA, the production should be stopped by NHTSB until it’s fixed. Or redesign the system n put in one that works like Sequoia?
Will Toyota let this roll over to the 2025 model? 4 years

Gives you time to print out n study up on your states lemon law. Mention lemon law and watch how quiet they get. Deer stare. They tied to trade mine out from 2022 to 2024 but I also had to pay $12K. Nope. 5 min later, how about $7k. Nope. Lemon law got me 100% refund.

Not hard to tell where u come from. Talking in code doesn’t work here. The vins of these defective trucks tell them what parts were used. There aren’t that many parts. Your are talking to truck owners, not our first truck n some of us are mechanics and engineers. Fords ecoboost engines failed. Cam phasers up to 100,000 miles recalled. Major engine tear down on Fords dime. Chance for us that switched to Toyota to earn our trust as we followed the Toyota quality from previous owners now we have vehicles with basically NO GAS GUAGE.

This thread you reference as signs of Toyota actively trying to fix it. In 2 years nobody has brought a Toyota fix to this thread.

Why don’t you start posting “stuff” that’s relevant to all of us getting these trucks fixed. Nice post, blah blah blah nothing but deflection n jabs.
Otherwise you qualify for the next WH press sec position.

I got folks started on the lemon law track and they will have options.

What have you told us about how we should proceed with our problem?

please somebody post here how ryanwgregg has helped them with his advice on fuel gauges.

Please show me the thread where I said I’m smarter than those in this thread.

All I did was share my story and offered some guidance to help those in the same situation I was in and hopefully they get the same comfort and resolution.

hummm why does this seem like a red vs blue conversation, I wonder!

    Oh here we go.
So we can take it your fuel gauge doesn’t work on your 2024?
What did the dealership do with your bad fuel gauge thus far?
I assume you have taken it to a dealer—his reset is not a fix, just a way to trick the system back to normal for a period.
Why doesn’t Toyota or the dealerships send out the procedures to reset the gauges?
Tricking the system back to normal is not the advice we need.
Nice to see you both are DFW!
Humm. Probably close to Toyota HQ there?

    You asked, I answered.

My 24 has had the problem once when I parked nose up in my driveway. I reset it and have avoided that parking direction since then. I have not yet brought it up with dealership because of how hard it is to reproduce.

I'm not trying to argue with you. I hate this problem as well but at least there's a workaround and until I or the dealership can easily reproduce the problem, I'm not gonna let them tinker with my truck because I don't trust them.

EDIT: yes Headquarters is near but I have never set foot near it.

So I took my 2024 Tundra TRD Limited (digital display) to the dealer for the gauge issue. My gauge went from 3/4 to full on its own. The dealer confirmed the gauge was displaying incorrectly but basically said there's nothing they can do about it because Toyota doesn't have a fix ready yet. My paperwork says "determined possible software concern...concern is currently under review with Toyota with no eta."

Not sure what I'm going to do now. Since my truck is only a week old it's a pretty big disappointment. I'm curious how many people had this issue early on but it went away and didn't come back.

Happens a lot with mine. One of the list of questions any time I’m at the service department. I haven’t heard of it happening and going away…fixing itself.

Took mine to the dealer and told them about it…among the other problems I asked them to fix….when I got the truck back they said it’s a know problem with Toyota and they will have a recall soon. Whether or not u believe that is another story.

My 22 did this once but hasn’t repeated in many months. I park on an uneven surface most of the time.
