LMAO! I forgot about that. :D

Oh, agreed. It's why you'll almost never find me engaging in serious arguments about Mac vs. PC or what have you, just like I don't go too far into iPhone vs. Android. The funny thing is that *most* people I know who are "Mac" fans who are also nerds like myself are pretty balanced - e.g., I've got Windows, Mac and Linux in the house; I run Ubituiti Unifi networking; etc. But the very MINUTE I post that I own something Mac, I'm a Mac fanboi. lol

I think we can all agree on that. LOL

I'm Windows certified because I have to be; also have Security+ and ITIL, working on CISSP. Never have gotten any Apple certifications, though.

Oh - and I also have a new-ish(a year or 2 old) basic iPad model. Pretty much stays on a custom bracket on my Rowing machine in the basement and handles the Netflix duties while I row

I use IOS in my personal life since Microsoft software is attacked more (because MS is used more in business) and the whole family uses it. Just easier that way. For this guy…it doesn’t matter either way. I can switch between both operating systems with ease.

Sorry - again, didn't mean this group. I mean when you go into a coffee shop. All the middle-aged female divorcees are rocking their Macs, doing ultra-basic computing, trying hard to look modern and hip. Most of the time I attribute Mac ownership to old people trying to remain relevant and this is why. I realize that's not actually true.

I'm not trying to be combative - I truly respect what you choose to use. I'm simply saying that if you take away all the anecdotal crap it really just comes down to user preference. I agree with @ryanwgregg that at an enterprise level it's a different story. But at the enteprise level Windows architecture is very similar to the home use level. The same quality level of hardware is available to enthusiasts too.

Oh I know. You're right, often the vast majority of people buy iPhones/Macs 'because they're cool' or because they're scared of having the dreaded 'green bubble' in their iMessage app. The subset of people who buy certain devices for actual functional reasons is very small.

One thing I WILL say is that from a cutting-edge perspective, Macs and PCs have completely switched sides. 25 years ago if you wanted firewire it was super easy to get it on a Mac. Now? Aside from the whole USB-C thing (which Macs made pretty much standard 5 years ago), it seems like they're trying as hard as possible to get rid of ANY ports on a laptop/desktop, and that drove/drives me nuts.

Granted, on a MacBook Air (like I have), I don't need anything but a few USB-C ports. I've used the ports on my Windows laptop *maybe* a handful of times over the last 4 years or so. But I want the OPTION of having more ports. It'd be nice to know that I could, if I was of a mind to, drop a bit more $ on a MacBook Pro and get the ports I wanted...but nope. For that I have to get a Mac Studio/Mac Pro.

I own the same one - it's pretty sweet. I paid like $500 for it a few years back and I'm just getting back into using it a bunch.

You get it and I'm with you 1,000%. Even with consoles becoming more and more like PC's, they are still simpler to operate and the Apple ecosystem "just works" once you learn it.

That's part of my choice as well, though I didn't think about it until now. Granted, it's not like I deal/dealt with it all the time @ home, but as a previous sole proprietor I made TONS of money off of cleaning malware/adware and the occasional actual trojan/virus. I'm not so foolish as to think none exist in the Apple world, but they're FAR less prevalent.

26 confirmed Linux computers in family (including smart devices, routers, etc). Toyota's HUs in Tundra and Sequoia are highly suspected for running Linux.

I'm betting you're right, given they're a HELL of a lot more stable in general than multimedia systems I've used in other vehicles.

The rest of my family is a mix of Linux (small amt), Windows and Macs. Guess who does their tech support. LOL

You all want another reason Android > iPhone?

I have a large site down in the Phoenix area this morning. This site uses an Azure IoT device to connect our machines, through our client's network, to the IoT hub, to a VM, where we ultimately push work to these machines. The IoT devices for all machines are down today, with no connection to or from Azure.

My engineer on site has an iPhone. What I want him to do is use a lightning to ethernet adapter to share his iPhone's internet connection, via ethernet, with the IoT device, so that we can quickly determine if the client's network is the problem. This client is one of the largest retailers on the planet, so IT/networking/security tasks are extremely compartmentalized and can take a very long time to get the right parties involved.

Unfortunately, iPhone does not allow a direct connection to internet. With an Android phone I can and have done this in a matter of seconds. While we do have a lightning-->ethernet adapter on site, it's only able to provide a wired connection TO the device, and not FROM the device.

This is just one of many examples of a scenario where Apple's lockdown of their devices limits the user from truly taking full advantage of the power at their fingertips.

Only have had one computer since 2009....Macbook Pro 13" laptop. The battery doesn't last long anymore but this thing keeps running. Probably need to start saving for a new one but at this point I'm just seeing how long this thing will last. House had a lightning strike about 7 years ago and the Macbook locked up. Image on the screen was not good. I thought it was lost. Restarted it and it has been working right since. Not a fan of some of Apples policies/actions as of late, but you cannot beat the reliability and value IMO.

I mean, that's an incredibly niche reason for needing an Android.

Granted, were I in your position, I'd use an Android as well. And of course it'd be nice to have that ability with an iPhone...but with that said, in 20+ years of using a smartphone of any kind, I've not yet needed that capability.

In any event, if I had to use my phone for something that specific, and/or directly connect it to work-related equipment (which is not allowed where I work), I'd maintain a separate work and personal cell.

It's just one example. There are hundreds more small situations like this where your Android phone can save you in a pinch.

I do maintain a separate work and personal phone. Both are Samsung.

Well, and there are tons of times I had to come up with solutions to navigate around issues with Android phones I’ve owned…whereas my iPhone just worked. That’s all I’ve ever wanted out of my smartphone - or ANY phone for that matter.

(To be fair, my thought is that the more vanilla a phone is the more reliable it is and the fewer issues one would deal with. Dealing with no crapware alone is a huge plus. LOL)
