Looks good. I wish they’d corner the market and make a steel version of this with swing outs.

    Right now, my decisions are:

    1. P&P Engineering (drill my own parking sensor holes) or Victory 4x4. For both, you give up BSM. P&P provides more ground clearance out of the box with the relocated hitch. Victory has an option for that too, but it’s extra. Neither hitches are SAE certified.

    2. Rigd UltraSwing. They said this shouldn’t interfere with BSM and it looks like that’s true. You definitely block and lose your parking sensors though. It uses the OEM hitch and is tow rated up to 10k, but makes for worse ground clearance.

All those options are pretty comparable price-wise when you factor in the accessories. The basic trade offs are BSM vs parking sensors and ground clearance (less of a concern for me). Not willing to consider CBI after my experience with their front bumper.

I’m leaning towards the Rigd UltraSwing at the moment as BSM was really nice on a recent cross country trip. I was using a hitch hauler with the parking sensors disabled and I didn’t really miss them.

    Thoughts welcome.

Funny you mentioned the UltraSwing. I’m in the Same boat and was looking for a way to mount a full size 35” spare. While the Ultra Swing will do the job, it does have cons and the DirtCom Trail Swing HD is a far superior option. It cost more but is designed, engineered and built way better. They compensate for the ground clearance. They have a video on YouTube where they directly compare against the Ultra Swing including cutting each in half to compare build quality. I was really impressed with the thought they put into it and ended up ordering one.

Truthfully, it’s a personal choice. I wanted a more robust aluminum bumper in all black. Upon removing g the stock bumper did I realize how thin and weak it is. There were many connector tabs, which are plastic, that were broke and pulling away due to wheeling. I feel the aluminum bumper will hold up better to the use I put it through.

I agree, it does match it well. BTW, I’d be interested in see the result if you decide to mod the Ironman bumper. Think that would look good.

@BayRunner - Good call. I like this more than the UltraSwing too. Do you know if the license plate light plugs into the trailer socket like the UltraSwing? Or does it require some wiring?

I spoke with AJ (the owner) in length about the Trail Swing. He is quite a personable guy and very easy to talk to. He loves their product and was more than happy to spend the time answering my questions.

I did ask him your question and he’s said that the light ships with the 2 wire leads. He said they did so for flexibility to go into the trailer plug or hard wire. If you want to go to the trailer plug just pick up a 4 pin trailer plug at Lowes or Amazon and your good to go. I plan to get one off Amazon along with a Y splitter so I can plug the light in along with a trailer.

If you are truly interested, make sure you only look at the HD version. The regular sized one will not swing open enough to drop the tailgate. There are 2 pics on the HD page of it on a Tundra.

The Rigd Ultra Swing charges extra for the license plate light, charges sales tax and has a higher shipping rate. DirtCom does not charge sales tax, charges a flat lower shipping rate and includes everything. They even include a spacer for mounting a rotopax tank and even locking lug nuts and key. In the end after adding it all up, the DirtCom Trail Swing is not that much more. Especially considering how superior it is. I highly suggest you watching thei YouTube Video on this.

Nice. I was planning on a splitter too so that’s good to know.

I watched the comparison video. The time to cut thing was a little hokey, but other than that, I’m definitely onboard with this over the UltraSwing.

Will do if I pull the trigger on the Ironman. I'll need to compare the weights and other factors before making a decision. Probably a summer project or beyond.

    Sounds good. For reference:
    • Ironman: 105 lbs
    • CBI: 120 lbs
    • ICI: 60 lbs

Hey folks, just joined . . . after literally following this thread (silently but fervently) since Saltyhero13 posted up the question. I was still a young man, then, I tell ya.

I have a 2018 4WD Tundra Limited I flew to Boise and picked up there because I couldn't find burnt orange in California. Well, kinda close to burnt orange.

Anyway I got excited about the CBI bumper when someone earlier posted about it and it was still in R&D. Waited. Waited. Then last May I went to the Overland Expo in Flagstaff with some buddies and met up with the CBI folks, including that gent in the install video, supra, that Saltyhero13 recently posted up - I think his name was Justin. Nice guy. To my eye, 120 lbs is an easy give - I want to keep GVW under control, because I'll be adding on. The cut of the bumper looks to me to improve exit angles in gully territory (mine isn't lifted), and if even it doesn't the bumper won't, like, tear off like the OEM. I also appreciate that I'm basically retaining the manufacturer tow-hitch apparatus, although I read the disclaimer and watched the vid about the cleat that goes on there. I'm ok with it.

Like most of you following the thread, I like that BSM and I've been waiting for someone to come out with a lightweight, good-looking utility bumper for overland work while retaining the qualities I paid for when I bought this thing.

Anyway, thanks for all the good intel posted up here via this thread. I've ordered the sucker up and I'll be sure to post up my review when I've replaced the current OEM tear-away bumper which I'm currently (and shamelessly) using zip-ties to retain in place as the CHP squints critically at me rolling by .... Hopefully it will help someone here get to the decision point I've been grappling with for a while.

CBI recently announced they are adding a swing out for their rear bumper. That may seal the deal for me. The also have a different version of their front bumper with a different lighting option making it more Ironman like.

Thanks, SH. Interesting news on that swing-out option - hope you'll keep the group posted. I'm intrigued.

And thanks for the encouragement. I'll likely contract with a local shop to handle the install. Not that I don't like getting it done myself, I do. I've got a half-day's repair work tomorrow to do on, ah, the results of an ill-conceived-plan-poorly-executed relative to a Decked System crush-hole I caused on the way to Coyote Flats up in the Eastern Sierras (not the fault of Decked - great product). This install I'd love to do, especially with the advent of Youtube videos (everyone can be a mechanical hero!). But I'm full-time busy, and I'm happy to support the local OHV shop on this one.

That said, I will gladly share what I learn, to the extent it's useful to this group of interested folk and experts.

Very interesting on the swing out announcement. Did they give a timeframe on the release of this?

That would have highly interested me prior to my ICI and Dortcom swing out option.

Wouldn’t hold your breath waiting. That’s exactly how they announced the BSM compatible rear bumper through a video. Then took years to actually release it. Who knows with the swing out, maybe they’ll surprise us with a reasonable time release.

I do like it too even though even if I'm not a bull bar/brush bar fan.

It doesn't have the crumple zone like the Ironman claims. No sacrificial intermediary mount point on this one. Its a direct frame bolt on not sure it could be modified to emulate that feature.

Just finished watching the video on the 2nd Gen hybrid bumper. I REALLY like that bumper and it’s only 104 lbs. My N-Fab bumper has worked out well but if I ever want to add a winch this is a Possible candidate for a future bumper.

I got a very surprising message from our warehouse in Portland today - something arrived that I hadn’t gotten a shipping notice on and didn’t expect for at least another two months (they shipped about 4 weeks after order).
    09CAF4DF-FE62-4F63-A200-8FFC28A8E292.jpg 460F6E04-A00C-46F7-BD20-4AF9DC2A0E54.jpg
    D176AF26-CEC1-4B4A-ABA2-A1F8C38E82B0.jpg

Gotta get it out to a local powder coater and then get it installed. We’ll be a couple weeks before that happens.

I’m going black for the bumper, but trying to decide if I want to color match the two side panels and the tread plates that bolt on top… :monocle:

wonder if I should start thinking about adding parking sonar too now!
