I have the LED puddle lights also, just wanted more, for no other reason other than I hate the shadow the step cast and the crap bluish/purplish lights amp sends.

Is that just the rock lights in place of the amp ones or is that both the rock lights and the under step light?
Looks awesome. You just spent $25 On new lights for me!

Looks good. Are the LED strips lights also installed on the underside?

This is just the rock lights, I still have the strips under the steps to mount later today, had to make a run to the hardware store.

Nice, that's a lot of light output for just the rock lights. Did you mount them with 3M double sided tape? I came across the Lux MAX LED rock lights that look very intriguing. They are completely encased in acrylic and mounted with magnets. No screws or tape evolved.

Yea, it's hard to understand why AMP would use such crappy lights for an otherwise well designed product. My guess is that they are afraid of the price point going up.

I was hoping to mout them on the frame, vut the elec motor on the driver side was in the way and I didn't want to just use screws, so out came the the nutserts and now the lights just bolt in.

Yep, just clipped off the amp ones and crimped in the new ones.

That's some serious light. Looks good.

My steps arrived today and hopefully I'll have the time this weekend to install them.

Rock lights instead of the amp research lights and drive bright LED puddle lights.

Looking good. Hopefully I’ll get mine on next week or so after the truck comes in. By the way you made me order a set of those rock lites. Not even going to bother with the ones Amp sends after reading this.

I agree. I'm not going to bother with the Amp LEDs either. I plan to install the steps hopefully tomorrow without the lights and then order the Lux lights next week. The magnetic mounting is just too good to pass up. Plus I have the super bright LED puddle lights which should hold me over for a bit.

Yeah the magnet sounds good but I have to deal with a lot of snow so I’d rather have a solid mount.

I ordered the rock lights today. I'll most probably replace the amp lights early next week.

I wired them to the cargo light circuit, my truck has the bed light kit, so I was able to tap the passenger side in at the frame rail and the driver's side I routed through the gromet in the driver's floor and up behind the dash and tapped it in to the bed light wire, where it tapped into the cargo light circuit.

My inly compliant about the rock lights is they don't cone with a flat mounting pad, just one for a bar. What I did was use this to my advantage and trimmed one side off, turning them into angled mounts.

Ok, finally finished installing the AMP steps this weekend. Didn't bother with the included LED lights since I'm going to order the Lux MAX lights, but here are my observations.

    • Overall I like the idea of these but since they are retractable steps, the truck lost a bit of the rugged look with the removal of the existing steps.
    • I think the quality of the steps and mounting mechanisms are good, however, there are some notable negatives.
      • As we all know, the included LED lights are about as low quality as they get. AMP should seriously reconsider what lights they include with a high quality step.
      • The included plastic rivets for the motor covers are junk and immediately went into the recycle bin.
      • The biggest problem for me was that in my PnP version, the driver side wire to the motor was too short.I had to move the controller further inward on the back firewall in order to get enough slack in the wire to reach the motor. It just barely reached the motor and the wire is too tight in my opinion. Moving the controller inward caused the ground wire to be too short to mount on the grounding bolt. The ground wire is currently stretched across the top of the blower fan and will need to be extended in order to be mounted correctly. This is either a poor QC issue or trying to save a few pennies on the wire cost. NOTE: The passenger side wiring was an acceptable length and had plenty of slack.
      • Due to the wiring issue above and kept having to rework it, the install took way longer than it should have.
    • Still on the fence if I like these or not, but will give a little time to adjust.
    • I will update once I have lights installed.

Looks good. Hopefully have mine on in a week or so. I like the fact that they don’t decrease clearance when up. I don’t rock crawl much but have to deal with deep snow.

I agree. It does provide some additional clearance with the trailing that I do.

Observed another interesting benefit. The wife initially did not like the AMP steps because she thought it took away from the rugged look, but has since changed her mind. She loves that the steps drop lower, and are wider / flatter which makes it easier for her to get in and out. Her exact words were, "Ooh, I like this!".

I don't want to hijack this thread, but has anyone installed a switch to turn off their PowerSteps from operating every time you open a door? I've see some discussion periodically during snow storms that it would be nice to be able to turn the steps off, but have not found a DIY or other thread from someone that actually did this.

When my truck was at the dealer for service recently, the tech mentioned that it would be nice to turn them off (he was testing my memory / fob function and was opening and closing the door frequently). I could remove the fuse prior to taking it in next time, but was wondering if anyone had done this already?

With the plug and play version, simply reach down and pull the plug out of the OBD2 port. Will instantly turn them off. Also, since there are only 2 wires running to the OBD port, it would be very easy to splice a switch in.
