Is that a OEM key? Does it have any letters stamped on the key?

I believe the code stamped on the keys is referring to the transponder, so the transponder on the 18's is now different. It won't work without cracking it open and Frankensteining it out with the one in our current key. Not worth it.

about cutting, that I'm not sure. But I'd assume any key place can cut it.

I would contact the dealer first to get a price. That way you're not blindsided in case they charge an arm and a leg to do so.

As stated there is a software program and cord you can buy to do the programming yourself. There's a possibility to find someone to do it for you locally.

It's called Techstream. I do not know exactly the cable needed.
Keep this updates if you will. I'm curious how much the dealer wants.
    Thanks

Key is from eBay. Paid $4 to have it cut and programed it myself using techstream. Works perfectly on my 2016. 7191546341cb90eae2f048bd1910b360_c7433ac855841b200ff6dea39a2495cc5b319c64.jpgf7203d58d304dd9a9fc019f7642d1df1_2afd5c88a40c5e656797d198505a2dbfc1fb3f93.jpg03ed08c96f8ce13669ae0d37c818fcd4_a799b074e1e5f751f4be4549425d67e3e185c6f6.jpgb4bc0aa53ce0d3c2d39505798b14c7dd_f0427cf30a36ced21f83f590bcfd7749cf1cb1a1.jpg

@Lo1dakota I called a dealer here in AZ and they quoted me $65 for just programming. Additional charges if i wanted them to cut key.

I had a similar switchblade key for my last car. I personally wouldn't go that route again. It was way to big and bulky in my pocket, plus the chrome button would get pressed causing it to open.

Hmm never had that problem so far. But my keys aren't in my pocket all that much.

I got a switchblade key like the one pictured and took it to a locksmith to cut it and program it. Works great! They also had the "all in one" OEM version in stock. They were a bit hesitant to program it because it was an eBay key (not OEM). I told them that I would buy their all in one OEM if it didn't work. But everything is still fine with my switchblade key. I have also had it open in my pocket and in my backpack because the button is easy to hit. the switchblade key that I have is heavier than the all in one version - I wish I had just gotten the all in one...

I brought my key to the Alhambra California Toyota dealer to have it programmed, but I was told that I had to have the ignition key switch and the alarm replaced as well. What dealer did you go to program your key? Please advise.

Neither Alhambra Toyota nor Locksmith could program my key. Unlike Ely010606 I can't return the key since I had it cut, but I still can use it ti lock or unlock the door. I'll be looking for other options.
