I have a Philips. There are many brands but I have seen side by side comparisons and the Philips performed the best (at least against the few others that I have seen. - there might be others that are as good or better)

We have a Tfal Actifry. The Woman uses it to make wings alot. Havent been out to a restaurant for wings since getting this thing. Lol.

She uses it for some chicken stuff etc. I use it for fries now and then. I personally prefer cooking on the stove or with the oven. Same times, better result other than wings.

We tried ours last night. Seems a bit quicker than the oven, but the capacity is lacking. Going to try wings next. I don't see how they will get crisp in there all piled up, but we will see.

I use a regular fryer, 1 gallon, for wings. they come out awesome. Wing places in our area will sell them dusted in Old Bay. We use that at home and it's great. Usually do half Old Bay and half Franks Red Hot.

When I researched last month, the Phillips gets really good reviews and considered very good by many. Cuisinart makes a rather large stainless steel one.

For our family, just a normal one with the bottom basket is not enough or large enough for us. We went with the one I posted below. We can fit 3 racks of stuff in it. More than enough for a family of 4. Also has the rotisserie and can do 3+ lb chicken, turkeys, hams, etc... it is quite handy.

Ours also seems to cook more evenly and better than one with the basket at the bottom like the in-laws have. Since ours has racks you can spread out what you are cooking. It also uses a mesh basket that uses the rotisserie part of the fryer. We throw tater tots and frys in it and since it rotates it cooks very very evenly.

I bought ours at Sams as it was on sale for $119 but it works very very well and quite impressed.

Don't pile them up. You will have to do one layer at a time - about 12 wings typically. If you pile them up, or even if you don't, you have to shake or stir them around every 5 minutes to make sure that sides that were touching gets exposed to the heat so it is evenly crisped. Sides that touch will not crisp at all.

Guess I have to join now. Wife got me an AirDaddy 4.2qt for Christmas. Used it for frozen fries so far, but she has plans for me to use it.

I just got that exact same one for xmas. My wife is Filipino and we've been wondering how it will handle lumpia. Those look delicious but I can't imagine NOT having the greazy flavor and lumpia tasting the same.

So far we've cooked fries and wings. We didn't do our normal recipes (fries = cook, freeze, cook; wings = marinade, coat in flour, cook) mainly because I didn't know you could put breaded things in the air fryer. The fries were meh and the wings, though crispy, were not the mega-crunchy that they usually are. Now that I know you can put breaded stuff in there it's time to try again!

A convection oven circulates hot air cooking the food faster. The air fryer blasts the food from much closer cooking even faster. To taste “fried “ the food has to have some fat on it. Since fries are already fried once they come out great.

Peel potatoes & cook with water, salt and pepper in pressure cooker. When done add butter and milk/heavy cream/cream cheese (or combination of) and salt & pepper to taste.

Something about cooking the potatoes in the pressure cooker that makes them creamy and not water logged like when they are boiled.

They're literally just countertop convection ovens, so if you have a convection oven then you already have a larger version of one of these.

I bought a Gourmia 5 Qt version a while back. This is my first winter snowbirding, so it sounded like a great idea for use in the RV. Tried making beer-batter halibut and battered cauliflower. It took FOREVER to cook batches. Spending 2+ hours cooking, completely wiped out the concept of 'RV convenience'. The wet batter does kind of work in the air fryer, but it didn't brown well and was a big pain to clean up afterwards. I got rid of it and haven't looked back.

Recently picked up an Instant Pot and absolutely love it! Obviously doesn't do the same things as an air fryer, but I can't recommend it highly enough for anyone that's considering one. In the 2 weeks I've had it, I've already done St Louis style ribs, Chicken and Rice, and One-pot Spaghetti. :hungry:

After using my air fryer for a couple weeks I've come to realize (as others stated) that this is def NOT a deep fryer! If you want that oily taste then you're gonna be disappointed. I tried "frying" some panko-breaded perch in the air fryer and it was nasty. Crispy, yes, but dry and flavorless compared to those we fried.

I find myself using the air fryer mainly to heat up leftovers instead of firing up my convection stove or using the microwave. I did some frozen tater tots an hour ago and they came out great! Much quicker than using the real stove too.

I think you have to forget the "fryer" part and come to terms with what it really is - a small oven.

I got one for Christmas. Only had a chance to try it once. As @SOB said, it's definitely not a deep fryer. I tried breaded pork chops in it and they were dry because I had to leave them in so long to get them just a little crisply. Maybe I'll try them again and spray them with some PAM first to see if they crisp up. My daughter uses hers for leftovers and frozen foods.m Tater tots are great in it.
I'll play around with it and find some other uses.

I found that you have to add some oil, or it will be dry. For wings I add about a tablespoon of oil on a dozen wings and give it a good stir to make sure they are fully coated. Most of the oil will drip through to the bottom pan, so you don't get to eat it, but it is needed for crispy skin and moist inside. For breaded chops, mozzerella sticks etc. a spray like PAM works okay since you can't really stir them without rubbing the breading off.

When we did wings I did put some oil on them. The skin did crisp up nicely but I still prefer a breaded wing - which I'm reluctant to try in the air fryer. I'll try one more time putting something breaded in there and spray with PAM as you suggested.

I have tried a few different things with breading but not wings. I actually prefer them without the breading, but I will try it just for fun.
My experience with the breaded items that I have tried is that it does not come close to real deep fried. With the unbreaded wings it is not the same as deep fried either, but the expectation is less, so it is okay.

So after making fun of and scoffing at the these things because of the ridiculous marketing on them (they're just a mini convection oven), I decided to give one a go. I rationalized it out as not having to turn on the entire oven to make quick, one-off meals and snacks, hopefully saving some time and not wasting money heating up and entire oven for something small.

Well, I'm a convert. It's a little noisier than I expected, but it does a REALLY great job. Here's the one I bought:
