Thing is. if they consider the vehicle as being "totaled" they will give you a ridiculous amount, if you are still paying for it, hope you have the gap insurance. it would be better to get it fixed and sell it. I think you will more money that way.

This is promising. Wonder what the scrap value would be?

    Total Loss Formula
In 21 states, determining total loss is based upon a total loss formula or TLF. Here, the insurer determines the cost of repairs plus the scrap value. If it equals or exceeds the actual cash value (ACV) of your car before the accident, then it is totaled. If it comes in lower, then your car may be fixed and returned to you.

What consumers won’t know is how Company A determines car value or how it stacks up against the competition. Based on TLF, Company A may assign one value leading to a total loss declaration, while Company B may see your car as repairable. In any case, if you are unhappy with the appraisal, then challenge it. Insurers will typically reevaluate their decision, giving you a chance to come away with a better deal.

This is so true... had my brand new evo x rear-ended at 4K miles. Almost $30,000 in damage including some rear frame work.
Never feels the same, no matter how good of a job they do repairing it.
    Good luck to you!

Not to mention the Car fax report, that’s a shitty hit when trading it in the future.

I would def. keep on your insurance guys ass, don't depend on her insurance, that's prob why the estimate was so low, they don't want to pay out, I just went through this with one of my customer's he tried dealing with the other persons ins. and they wrote a very bare minimum estimate like $500, in actuality there was a tad over $3000 worth of damage
and in Pa. on the average they hit the total loss mark around 70-75% of the vehicles worth, and they used several formulas to get that figure
but def. keep on them !!!!!! be a pain in there ass ins. companys will drag there feet if you let them unless of course your a ay late paying your bill !

The other party's insurance has taken full responsibility for it, mine is able to stay out of it.

I have no claim with my insurance and I intend to keep it that way. Their insurance has been actually very responsive and helpful. It is all up to the adjusters now. They have a 3rd party service coming Monday to validate the dealer's estimate...

I hope they use 75%. I would be in good shape!

I would recommend starting to document similar vehicles (Package, body, year miles, drivetrain etc) for what the Replacement cost will be. Start a spreadsheet including pricing and VIN. Print PDF of all you see for documentation as they are sold. They do all their values on ACV, but you will have to argue what the replacement value is as this is no fault of yours. Also start looking at the insurance auto auctions for what a salvaged Tundra sells for. Did all this last June for my S4 that was totaled.

Not sure how PA works, but I would rather have it go through my insurance company here in CO (no fault state). Reason being they have my best interest in mind (well more so than the other drivers company) and then go after the other company for repayment.

Also very sorry for you! Hope fully you are made "whole" again.

The insurance company usually uses 80%. If they value it at say $37K, then that is $29,600 and I lose out over $3K....

Why would you not want to have a claim with your insurance. The only way it would negatively affect you is if you were deemed to be 51% at-fault, and that is not the case.

You pay them monthly/yearly so that they will handle this stuff for you.
I had a POS commuter car (with liability coverage only) and was hit. I went through the persons who hit me insurance, and it was a nightmare, every step took forever. I was living in an apartment at the time, and couldn't park a smashed car there, so i left it at the tow yard while the insurance was taking their sweet ass time. They threatened to stick me with the bill for storage. Luckily i documented every call i made to them and showed it to their service manager and they paid for the storage.
I was talking with my insurance about the nightmare, if i had full coverage they would have taken care of it from the first instance and then collected from the other drivers insurance.

    just my .02

Just remember that their insurance company works for them. They are going to lowball you the whole way through.

6k is an insult. A joke. No adjuster in their right mind could honestly believe that. Hell, I'm a skeptic at 26k.

Good luck man. I hope it works out in your favor.

The insurance companies work for themselves. Not the people paying the premiums, let's not kid ourselves there :)

A 3rd party appraisal service is coming Monday to meet with the dealer. Glad I went to the dealer, as no one charges more than they do!

Yes, that is true. I guess what I mean is they (at fault) are going to try to screw you.
When I had my crash I had my insurance (USAA) handle everything and they just got paid back by the other insurance company since that party was at fault. The difference was thousands.

I have been in the same situation. My truck value was 40k and it had 28k in damage. I told my ins company to send me the check and i will decide what im going to do. That is your right. I cashed the check and sold the truck for 15k damaged as is and was ahead of the game. I dont know the full extent of your damage but i bet there is a huge value just the way it sits. Jusy my 2 cents.

I would push for the total and check for the full amount.
Really argue with them about diminished value to get added to the total (if its covered in your state).
Not a bad idea to get a check and sell the truck in its current condition as well. Just a hassle trying to find the right buyer.

If they dont total it, you could tell the insurance company to send you the check which will have you and the lienholder as payee. You send the check and difference for the payoff and you will be sent your clean title. And now you sell it for 15k like it is. I go to salvage auctions occasionally and you should see the wrecks that sell for crazy money.

Don’t want to steal your thread but I just had my truck hit and it was 10k in damage. Like The other poster said I’m about to get rid of this before if the Carfax shows the accident.

Yeah I have already planted that seed with the insurance rep. I am going to make a big deal about diminished value for sure. It is going to be a close one I think so every bit helps. Won’t know for a while I would guess seeing they have to validate the estimate first before they figure out next steps. Racking up the miles on the rental F150...

Does PA have diminished value laws if your truck is not totaled? I would seriously look into that. When people have to pay out an additional 10K in diminished value costs, the insurance company writes it off as a total loss.

Sorry to hear about your truck, that peticklar truck will bring a good price at auction if it is totaled. A good frame shop can straighten the frame right(brother in law owns one). The bed side easy to replace, bumpers are a three piece i believe, axle as long as it's not bent (tire not blown) could be salvaged. I used to buy cars, trucks, boats, motorcycles, ect. Your truck if totalled will most likely end up at Insurance auto auctions IAA, PA auctions are not open to the public but i believe if you wanted to you could see the auctions on line bidding with out being a member. Check it out here

    https://www.iaai.com/locations/626/altoona

Some states are open to public and to become a member it costs $200 per year(as i remember) to bid on vehicles, some have salavge titles and some don't.

So this is foggy but is one of my plans of attack. Diminished value and salvage value are two avenues I need to use with them...
