So my Betty White was hit while parked on the street a couple weeks ago. Adjuster said it was $6K in damage. Body shop just finished the estimate. $26K!

Truck has 4,000 miles on it. Waiting to see what the insurance company says. Thankfully it isn’t my insurance that is handling it.

What a drama. Doesn’t look like much but they are saying it needs new frame rails and about 5 more pages of repairs...

Jesus! What was the person's story that hit it? This is why I hate parking on the street. Sucks man! At that point I think I'd want to write the truck off and get a new one...

I have no idea what made her hit my parked vehicle. Never met the lady. I came out and my truck was gone. Police had it towed away. Thought i parked illegally lol.

I really hope they total it. Going to suck having a brand new truck with almost $30k in repairs to it.

That sucks. I would go with the body shop estimate. I would feel safer in a new one. Sorry to hear that it only has 4k miles. Maybe they hate white trucks. :notsure:

how the hell did the adjuster come up with $6k, there's probably $3k in paint by itself.

She was in a CR-V. Apparent pushed the truck onto the curb. Had to have been texting. I was told it wasn't alcohol. Crazy

This happened to me when I was in my 20's except it was my little brother @MikeBeach that hit my Altima with a lifted Jeep. Car was only 3 weeks old and it was in the shop for almost 7 weeks. Hope you get the outcome you want.

Its amazing how fast the charges rack up on a new vehicle. My wife had a Honda Odessy for all of about 3 months. Hit a deer. $13,800 later we were getting it out of the shop. I couldn't believe they didn't total it...but it wasn't at 50% of the value of the vehicle since it was so new. That thing was F'd. I sold the Milf Mobile as soon as I could.

So what's the rule? I thought it had to be more to repair than what it is worth? So my truck is valued at say $37K, and it costs $26K to fix, it isn't a write off I thought?

Yeah thats what I read "In Pennsylvania, a salvaged car is one that’s so damaged it would cost more to repair than the car’s worth immediately before the damage occurred (i.e. its fair market value). Generally, your insurance provider determines whether your car is a salvage, also referred to as a “total loss.”"

That seems to me to mean no new truck :( I am checking with my insurance guy (claim is not through them) to see what my options are.

It does look like you've now got 4 wheel steering. That's a whopping sized bill! Hope you get the new truck.

Crazy drivers are everywhere. Mine got hit sitting in the parking lot. The other car was parked the wrong direction next to me, tried going around and touched my rear bumper. I was sitting in the truck, got out and saw there wasn't any damage. I was irate but there wasn't anything to get mad at. Told her to be more careful. She apologized profusely, backed up a bit so she could safely go around and then hit the gas and BAM ran right into my truck again. It looked like just some rub marks but ended up being $2K. Her insurance paid it and the week for a rental car.

Looks like PA is total loss formula...heres a chart with state by state...https://www.carinsurance.com/Articles/total-loss-thresholds.aspx

Best advice will be to talk with your insurance agent...See what the value was before the hit, and then try to find more stuff wrong with it to take it over the threshold. The body shop may be able to help you take another look over of it. Ive heard of them asking if you want it totaled when it is really close...because they will buy and rebuild it.

Thanks. I live in a crappy state it seems. My insurance guy wasn't any help. He is going to call an adjuster he knows to get advice.

It will blow if I have to have a truck with 4,000 miles and $26K in repairs. Could be years of problems...

Half of the time, the insurance company outsources the adjuster phase of the process. Based on the position of your wheel, that is nowhere near $6k. Once they dig deep and see the frame damage, there is a decent chance that it can be totaled. Though depending who the insurer is, they will probably ask to get the frame replaced....
