The only items on that truck I paid for was the TRD grill, wheels, NFAB front bumper (got it at cost) interior / exterior led, Rigid light bar (at cost too) and the sub.
I got $34k for it. I was asking $35k when it came down to it

It depends on how the truck is driven. Taxi cabs have shorter change intervals for obvious reasons. A truck frequently used for towing a heavy trailer or as a daily driver with lots of short trips is going to be harder on the oil as well. I go by the DIC as it factors in the type of driving being done and does not go entirely by miles driven which if you think about it makes little sense. A truck used as a daily driver with an average trip driven at 30 mph over the course of 5,000 miles has put 166 engine hours on the motor oil as compared to a truck used for longer trips and averages 50 mph and over 5,000 miles has put 100 hours on the engine and its motor oil.

What people seem to not realize is that over the past 40 years that lead is no longer in gasoline and so not damaging the engines and the metal alloys and used of ceramics has greatly reduced wear and then lubricants have also improved and we even have the newest generation of synthetic oils and blends for 2017 and later engines, diesel and gas. Operators of large fleets of trucks try to get as many miles between oil changes as possible as the cost to have the vehicle out of service is very important. They have greatly increase the miles between oil changes and with the diesel engines they can monitor the engine hours and factor that in as well.

New air and fuel and oil filters are the least effective at removing particles when they are brand new and before any "loading" has taken place. A truck with its oil changed every 5,000 miles instead of every 10,000 miles is driven a lot more with a less effective oil filter in place. This seems strange unless you understand how the filters need to work from day 1 until they are changed out.

My truck has been dealer maintained since I bought it, it now has close to 90k miles and oil has been changed every 10k miles. Never had any problems.Trust Toyota, they know what they’re talking about.

Totally agree with wintersun ,right up to the point of new filters being least effective new. New filters are instantly put under a load when engine is started ,by oil saturation and pressure , and fuel filters are the same , at this point they become most effective . From that point it is brand of filter affected by heat and pressure, that some on here have said they found some coming apart when doing oil change. Buy top quality filters and no problems . 99.9% of time. As far as air filters don't know, always buy quality. That is one reason I won't run K&N , just can't trust open mesh , years ago we ran K&N on all our race cars, but they came with a foam element around them that you saturated with oil, this really worked in dust on oval dirt tracks ,and off road.

Costco now has their own full synthetic oil. $25 for two 5 gallon jugs. Costco + Cheap = Good enough for me at 5k or 10k.

Kirkland is also Warren oil. Kirkland, Supertech and Amazon are all the same oil from the same blender and it IS very good oil.

This is essentially what I do as well but I never put in for the rebate.
At 5,000 mile changes the Kirkland oil is intriguing to me though.

You'll be fine at 10k if you're doing normal driving. Agreed, it's hard to get used to, I'm old enough to remember when oil was to be changed every 3000 miles. But I think you can trust Toyota about this.

Me too. My 2017 Tundra is the first vehicle I've had where I've done something other than 3,000 miles. I've calculated that I've done over 230 oil changes in the driveway over all these years. Not so many now (2017 Tundra and put Mama in a 2019 Highlander, and ALL the kids are now out of the house).

Most modern synthetics are good for 10k. Making sure your air filter is always in good shape is also key.

My tacoma I’ve always changed at 10k and never had an issue. Currently at 107k miles. A good portion of that is towing as well.

currently around 21k on my tundra, also doing 10k oil changes.

    Never had any issues.
