Higher compression needs higher octane to prevent detonation. Higher octane just gives an engine a more controlled and efficient combustion...and thus prevents us from fooking up our engine.

Just read this entire thread and this is hands down the most impressive group on the entire forum. Thank you all so much for such great data. I have a stock Platinum, which has the Sport S and Sport S+ modes (which I think just adds more traction control) and the Tow mode.

My question is simple. If I run 93 octane vs 87 octane, do the stock timing tables (assume Sport + and Tow mode) advance the timing (and boost?) enough to take advantage of the extra octane?

The same engine in the LX 600 is rated at 30 more horsepower, but requires premium gas. I assume it has more advanced timing tables? Does our Tundra also have this potential to grab those extra 30 horses if we use premium gas?

TIA for a response, and big thanks again for all the info on the JB4 and Pedal Commander. Really great info. Y'all are awesome.

I agree with what your saying regarding the cost with respect to hp gains. My issue is they advertise 60hp, dyno shows 50hp and it doesn’t indicate what map or fuel they ran. For $700 I was hoping for more info or transparency.

Without doing any research, I think it maybe safe to assume that the same motor on the LX600 has a different tune with a higher boost than the ones in the non-Hybrid Tundras. With that said, in my opinion, using higher octane gas than 87 on the Tundra is pointless unless you use a tuner to remap everything to get more power...

You can always get on the phone and call the company and ask for information or go to the JB4 forum...won't cost you a dollar.

Yep... That's what I am tryna figure out. I just don't know how to do the research on what timing tables and ecu parameters are different between the two vehicles. Y'all seemed like the smartest people I have come across on this forum. I hate to ask an easily researchable question, but this one is a little deep for me.

Sick looking truck BTW. Just followed you on IG!

I'm still learning about tuners and this thread has been interesting. I found this video and was wonder when the 50-60 HP gain mentioned above was on the higher end of RPM like in this video of a totally different tuner?

the VR box only saw 20hp at the top of the rpm range, to be expected from these tiny turbos. If you compare the JB4 graph, youll notice they also see the biggest increase at the same rpm range as the VR box. VR doesnt mention boost levels but I'd assume theyre running more than the JB4 box if theyre seeing close to 100trq increase. BMS did mention that they believed they had left power on the table with this tuning setup but they werent ready to release a hotter tune yet.

Does anyone just have the Pedal Commander or it looks like some have both the JB4 and the PC55?

The throttle response on the '22, for me at least, is shit.
Sounds like the PC55 will fix that. The JB4 sounds great, but wondering if $1000 for both isn't something to do just yet. Maybe do PC to see if I'm happy with that then go for JB4.
Obviously a personal choice...but wondering if someone is ultimately happy with the Pedal Commander for throttle lag, or if JB4 fixes that a bit?

    Thanks!

I did the PC55 first and it does get rid of the throttle lag using City -3 or -4. I wouldn't pay retail for it though. I'd rather get the JB4 at that point

Appreciate the insight. Does the JB4 improve the responsiveness at all, like the PC55, or is just making the truck super fun once it gets going in mid gears?

Jb4 does not get rid of that initial throttle lag if you're driving around like a normal human being. If you're hot rodding it, then it'll give you all the boost it has as soon as possible. The PC55 will just make the throttle a little touchier,, getting rid of the lag but also making it launch a lil.

I’d be interested to see someone do some before and after 0-60 testing with these piggyback tuners. I got one of those dragy 10hz gps units for recording 0-60, 1/8th mile, 1/4 mile and more and they’re supposedly very accurate. I’ve had fun playing with it, and would recommend it.

My first tuner and tunes for my F150 Ecoboost were $350 and made that much. Its a little more expensive now, 6 years later, but still can be cheaper than $700.

the issue is that tuning in the Toyota world is pretty limited still. Everyone and their brother tunes Fords, Chevys and Rams because its so accessible through programs like HPTuners. Even a random schmuck like me can and does tune my own f150. The tuning companies get the tunes setup for a truck and then hand them out to everyone like candy.

100+ HP to the wheels? You even quoted my post with me saying 50 HP to the wheels. You may need prescription glasses or contacts.

So, why did you quote me when I said nothing about 100+ HP to the wheel on any of the trim levels? Reading is fundamental.

throw some E85 in there...it'll bump up the octane rating. We can run up to E40 without affecting fuel trims.

depends on how much you have in the tank now. download "E85 Blend" if youre on android.
Cali gas is about E10, so use that as your starting point.

This thread is going to make me get JB4 for my Hybrid if I keep coming back to it. My only fear is how much load can rearend and transmission handle with truck weighing 6300 lbs with me in it?

So does anyone have knowledge of drivetrain strength on these trucks?

i would be extremely surprised if it couldn’t handle some decent power but im not sure anyone really knows since no one has pushed the limits of this driveline yet
