So... yes. The contact patch you're gaining isn't actually in the width. Yes, you'll get some additional width, but only to the max of the tread. If you're tread width is 11.5 inches, you'll only get 11.5 inches of width. You don't want sidewall on the ground. You're getting a lot of your contact patch increase from the length. Don't quote me on this, but I believe that the increased circumference is what's giving you the increased contact patch.

Thinking about it, the increased contact patch would be a function of both the sidewall and circumference.

That was my suspicion, the real wonder though was about the physics of the air and application on our trucks.

37s are on my list, but further off. The reason I asked was your mention of Methods patented bead grip, and whether that should be a concern of mine in the future. I haven't a need nor desire to run bead locks, but want to make sure I reduce any risk of surprises, especially when not on the asphalt.

Yeah, it's a fine line. If you're not doing this stuff regularly and pushing yourself and your truck when you're doing it, you probably don't need beadgrip. Check this video. He's a Method sales rep, but Wally's legit.

I'm personally looking for bead locks, but I'm not sane.

Okay OP you didn't mention you actually want to use it! The only reason I get away with these wheels on stock fenders is I live in the midwest and do mild crawling, washed out trails, mudholes, never any high speed desert runs. Even slamming the bump stops on drainage grade reversals I've never gotten that much up travel out of the front suspension, unless of course this explains why I can't keep fender liner clips in the passenger side.... there's rubbing on the liner on a hard stuff but the tire just barely tucks inside the fender lip. This could also be tire specific as they run different true width/dia/side lugs.

Yah I wouldn’t be doing high speed stuff to be honest it’s more trials and dirt roads for shooting and fishing

Honestly, like... 37s would just be for the flexin in this case. If you want to flex, dooooo eeeet. Otherwise, stick to stuff that fits. Because let's face it... If you have to hack your truck, it doesn't actually fit. You'd be making it fit.
