Yeah what's the deal with this? Putting 3rd gen in tow today really opened it up, weird how it feels choked compared to 2nd gen.

save your money on a tuner, not much hp or torque gain to notice a difference. The only noticeable gain with big numbers is a supercharger, 2nd to that is a race exhaust from dirty deeds

    Bigger tires EAT torque.

Gear change brings rpms back to normal.

No explanation exists for your older gen 2 vs gen 3 with the EXCEPTION of weight unless you had a supercharger.

A diesel truck is a different story.

Theres many many members on here claiming 2nd gen having way more available torque and hp on demand then the 3rd gen.

I think I'll mess with dap tune and see how it feels after

That's your lift more than tire size.
The third gen has a different Power Control Module. I put a Bully Dog on mine and that fixed it. Still doesn't like 6th if there's the slightest incline on the hwy. I recently went with 5.29 gears 'cause I plan to run 37s.

I agree that it doesn't appreciably increase HP but it does re-map the throttle control and makes a huge difference, well worth it.

Average peak horse power gains have been 15-20, and 20-30 low and mid-range torque gains.
Speed governor removed, shift points changed for optimum power, torque management removed.

    Well worth the money.

it is totally worth the money. I have had the DAP tune for over a year now and I could not image the truck without it.

I did the same size too and I think it is big enough for the "big tire" good looks, but not too big for the obvious reasons.

I third a DAP tune. Nearly had it a year. You notice a difference right away. Worth the small investment.

The newer 3rd gens probably have different shift maps and maybe tuned differently so that could be the difference people are feeling.

A tune or tow mode might be enough to get you where you feel better. It might also explain the variances in opinion from second gen to third. The engine and trans are the same so torque programming and pedal programming might have been different. Seems logical. Each step brings you further from the engineers Intentions but if your happy and your haven't pushed tolerances way out of whack.. then enjoy.

This thread is making me think twice again. I am running 275/55R/20 now with 20x9 and 0 offsets wheels with stock suspension. And it is running smooth. I am planning to do 6 inch lift with 35s and 20x12 -44 offsets wheels. Am I going in right direction? Lol or should I stick with same set up and just level my truck haha

Having recently made the jump from 285/70/17s which are 32.7"x11.2" to 35/12.5/17s which are actually 34.5"/12.0" on my truck, I notice a difference in low end power but like it. It's much smoother accelerating from a stop than it used to be, and still has plenty of get up when I need to pass someone. I didn't add wheel spacers with the tires either so my turning radius hasn't suffered. I'm on the 4.30 gears that come with the tow package.
