I would have to disagree with this statement, to an extent. I would say yes if it was assembled in Mexico but the commercial trucks are typically made here and are built to last. I put over 500k on 2 3/4 ton chevys with gas engines with little problems. But my last 1/2 chevys werent fit to drive to the corner store.

If your only concern is reliability as the miles go up Toyota is one of the better choices in general.

But everyone's situation is different. If I needed to drive 30k per year for work, I'd probably get something other than a 14mpg Tundra. I'd also consider depreciation and resale value as the miles increase so quickly. Especially if you plan to finance without a large down payment, the value is going to drop considerably after that first year that you will already owe much more than its worth. That's no fun when someone rams into your tailgate, bends the frame and the thing is totaled. Now you have to write a check to the bank and go buy another car starting all over again. Just other things to consider...

The Tundra is American. Made in Austin

Pretty sure he was referring to American OEMs, which I kind of agree with.

    Winner! That's a lot.

Right now I'm doing about 22k per year. I just got a new job 76 miles away and don't want to move for awhile as it's MUCH cheaper to live where I'm at and just commute. That will start racking the miles up quick.

Tundra is assembled in San Antonio, but all the parts are made in Japan and shipped here to avoid import taxes.

Parts are made all over the world. When i ran over the road i would pick up parts at the docks then go to each auto maker.

I'm not so sure about that. Toyota has stickers on all the new vehicles show what percentage of parts are made in the U.S. Also, almost anything made overseas that's imported is going to be subject to tariffs.

I had my 2016 Crewmax LTD for 20 months. Bought new, traded it in with 65k on it. Similar pace for my current truck. 17k miles in 5 months. No issues on the 16 model, kind of traded it on a whim when I saw I could strike a deal on a left over 18.

Other than location being wrong, I meant American carmakers overall. They become money pits, and the only American vehicle I have is a Ford Transit 3.7L and even that has gone through problems with sliding door, still unfixed grinding horribly somewhere when I turn left or right, already did a recall on the driveshaft bushing, and I only have 24K on it. I wonder when Toyota will come into the van market, so we don't have to deal with subpar products. My wife has a jeep which she had even before we got together and that has gone through problems also and its sitting at 92k. My mechanic told me to get rid of it, before the exhaust manifold and the oil pan rusts completely through with additional leaks from the power steering pump.
    Exactly.

In 8 months I have put 36,380 miles on my truck. I drive it for work all over the southeast. It was a great decision and I love it. ZERO regrets

Since the OP brought up a Jeep, my comment was made in general on most American carmakers. With as much as he drives, the jeep will fall apart fast.

30K to 40k a year for me. I drive it for work all over the Northern Midwest. I could get a Corolla but I like the bigger vehicle. As for parts content, the Tundra ties the F150 for the most domestic parts content & most "American made", meaning most of the parts are made in North America (USA, Canada, Mexico). Very little, around 15% come from overseas.

well, I don't feel as bad now. just over 28 months and 54,xxx miles. Best decision I made was trading in a chevy for a tundra.

Spot on with this statement. I'm a big Jeep fan, with all years until Chrysler took them over. Now they are just overpriced POS. I had a couple CJs that I beat the hell out of and they are probably still on the road. My last Jeep was a 2005 LJ and with all the electrical problems it had I will never own another Chrysler product as long as I live.

The previous owners of my '07 averaged 27,000 per year for 10 consecutive years before I purchased it late in 2017, I am just about to hit 285k and it's a great ride.
