You can send a cluster off to be reprogrammed. Ship it to the programmer directly off ebay if you wanted.

Aaaah cant you actually reprogram the Odo yourself if you got the tools?

The truck will start and run fine with any cluster. I have a 15 cluster running in my 2007 now.

I have plugged up 4 different clusters into my truck and they all worked just fine. It is not VIN locked or anything.

Odometer value is stored in a microchip inside the cluster. If you can unsolder it, read it and rewrite the value in HEX, you can make the cluster display any mileage you want. I wouldn’t say it is easy to do however.

The fuel float sends a value to the cluster based on the resistance measured by the float level. It sends the volume of gas in the tank in Liters and the gauge moves based on this value. Flexfuel cluster might scale the data differently or the flex fuel sender is sending the signal at a different rate. I have never worked with any of the flex fuel trucks but I have been able to control my non flex fuel fuel gauge to anyway value I want.

Almost any gauge, indicator light can/is controlled via signals on the CAN bus. The oil pressure sensor, fuel level and voltage gauge are the only ones using an analog input. Well technically the gear position is from a analog sensor but the gear info is also on the CAN bus.

Here is a video I made controlling the 2014+ cluster from my laptop. It uses the same signals the 07-13 trucks use

I think they make special clips that attach to the chip while it is still soldered, no?

Yes I am sure you can get a "socket" that pops over the chip and allows you to read it without removing it from the circuit board. I assume you can write to it this way also but I am not sure.

For you guys with fuel gauge issues I just made this chart. I sent resistance values to mimic the fuel tank sending unit to my benchtop cluster.
When I got the needle as close as I could visually to the marks on the gauge I recorded the resistance value (the number coming from the sending unit in the tank). I then read the CAN bus signal sending out the fuel level produced by the cluster (# LitersX10) and converted it to gallons.

Seems resistance value is 0 Ohms at Full tank approx 25 gallons. Empty is about 470 Ohms or 1 gallon. The CAN bus signal would not go lower that 3.8L left no mater how high I made the resistance, nor could I get the CAN signal to go any higher than 94.2 L at 0 Ohm resistance.

Remember all the sending unit does is send a resistance value of 0-500 ohms and the cluster reads this and does the rest. FFV cluster might be using different math or the sending unit in the tank is operating on a different range, not 0-500 Ohm. (Maybe 200-700 or some other range)

General rule of thumb seems every gallon of gas you burn from 25 down adds 20 Ohms.
    25 Gal = 0 Ohm
    24 Gal = 20 Ohm
    23 Gal = 40 Ohm
    This is a close approximation

For you guys with a gauge reading improperly this might help. I would measure the resistance coming from your factory sending unit into the back of the cluster and see how far off your FFV needle looks. You could alos use Torque or OBDFusion to get a digital value of fuel tank level in gallons. This will come from the sending unit signal. With the app telling you how many gallons are in the tank maybe you can visually see IF and how much your FFV needle is off. (Tip if you convert the app gall level to liters and multiple by 10 is will give you the Decimal CAN signal)

Do you know what the chip is called the eeprom chip for the Tundra? I have seen videos where you Don't even have to take the chip off to program it. There is a chipset that you can buy online for maybe $5 $10 that you can directly attach to the EE prom chip and program it directly. It would be great if we can get some interior pictures of the dashboard. So that we can understand where this EEPROM chip sits and which chipset is it. I'm sure it's similar to the cars of the similar year and generation.

I tried looking that up online but it doesn't look like there's a lot of information on that.

I believe it will be similar to this.

If I get some time I can take my extra cluster apart and look for the exact chip

    Great info!

Also, thanks a lot because now I'm probably gonna have to go out and buy more crap for a one time use I'll never need again LMAO

I guess I could always get it and offer cheaper reprogramming for people that are uncomfortable doing it themselves... Just need to undercut the eBay guy

I'd have to think a couple things - #1 the guy on eBay probably has way more experience (but I'm always willing to try new things like this), but also, if some (all?) dealers can reprogram the units, then there HAS to be a simple tool to be able to use to do it via programming. I'm wondering if it's not hidden somewhere in Techstream. The postings I've seen in various forums are all over the place as far as people have luck with their local dealers being able to do it.

If someone has a extra cluster lying around and can open it up and see which eeprom chip it is? I am sure we can figure it out with all the information around the internet to program this chipset.

I did just email Tanin as well as they had sent me an offer after I chatted with them online last week. They're relatively local to me (about 90 mins away) and I offered to share what I've put together with them, as it should open up their clusters to be more specific to use (vs. the blanket statement of they're not compatible with FFV vehicles, which we're starting as a group to prove otherwise). If it works out, I may just head down there one of these days and have them reprogram it for me if the cost is reasonable, and maybe see about some sort of offering for the forum? They're currently pretty pricey in their clusters, but it does include reprogramming the mileage. I'd like to think between the $100 junkyard units we're all finding, adding in the $80-100 to get them reprogrammed vs. the $400 units they sell, there may be some sort of middle ground there.

They do offer a $75 core refund as well...so that really takes the price of their down to around $325. I don't know how much shipping is, so that's a variable. I'm also not sure if theirs are refurbished or cleaned up at all. They do offer a lot of refurbs, so I'd think maybe that's something worth asking...could be a selling point for them?

It is my understanding the Cluster itself is considered a "ECU" on the network. I would assume Toyota has a way to access the calibration file inside the cluster ECU and reflash the odometer value. All you are really doing is changing a few bytes of HEX data inside the EEPROM chip in the cluster. Im not sure Techstearm offers a way to open the ECU programming code and reflash value but I would love to be able to know how. If I could get inside of Toyotas code, be able to read and change it it would open up all kinds of options.

I believe this same file holds data related to wheel and tire size would could be changed for speedometer corrections ect.

This, overall, seems simple enough. I really like the clip-on option for the chip vs. de-soldering. I'm on the hunt now for a 93-series 5v programmer, if such a thing exists. Seems simpler than hacking a bunch of stuff to make the one he uses work. But also, that doesn't seem all that difficult either.

I can do that already... I recently found the value or the CAN bus to sends the Instant MPG to the cluster, we can send any value you want and get "GREAT" Mpg at least on the display. ;)
This is on the 2014 cluster screen but the info buttons and monitor in the dash by the clock on the 07-13 truck uses the same data line.

I have the stock one from my 2007 just sitting around. If I get a minute this weekend I will take it apart and take pictures and post them here. Seem if I can find the illusive chip with ODO data

So, I am not any sort of electrical engineer, but I'm wondering if something like this may work: https://www.amazon.com/SETCTOP-EZP2019-Programmer-Socket-Support/dp/B07RX3FLFT

It's a programmer for 24/25/93 series chips, and appears to come with an adapter that makes it work with 1.8V, but natively without that looks like 3-5V?

There's a lot of bits and pieces that come with the kit, but they mostly appear to be adapters for use with various chipsets and I would think could be easily figured out (may be included on the little disc that comes with it, but probably online as well).

I did also find the same thing for $11 on Aliexpress, though I've never ordered from there before...

Guys, I just got off the phone with a local guy and he said he can swap the chips from the old cluster to the new cluster so there won't be any programming involved. Why didn't I think of this before?!

Ahh did you guys see the Video I just posted. You likely only need a for $10 bucks. Granted you will have do some soldering but its very doable.

Open that sucker up and look for the IC6 Chip - Looks like thats the chip that has the mileage info written to it. Also read the chip and get a closeup pic for it to see which chipset it has. We will need that info to program it.

This is from the 2001 IS but you get the point

One chip is as good as the other right? The data is stored in the same place in all of them. So yes putting your old chip on the newer board might be the easiest option. Assuming you have the patience and soldering skills. Just gotta make sure you get the old chip on the new board in the right direction with all the pins in the correct holes.

I had this thought once before but had forgotten. Thanks for reminding me. This might be the way I go in the future.

I did, and that's what got me thinking that if they make a chip programmer for other chips...surely they make one for the 93 series chips - and voila, they do. No soldering, no scraping, no re-routing or adding wires or anything, and it's $11 on Aliexpress. Essentially the same thing as what he used in the video, but it comes ready to go with the 93 series chips and auto-detects the voltage. Why do all the extra work?

That works too...but I enjoy DIY type stuff and there's nobody I'd rather have destroy my cluster and chip than me! :D

I got my original pulled apart and don't see any IC 6 chips but I do see one with blue stuff around it and I an suspecting it's the chip with the mileage information.
