2022 Tundra vs 2022 F-150 opinion?

What is tremor typical fuel economy if you don't mind me asking? I get about 18.1 highway, and 15.8 city with the Raptor on 315's.

 

I think it’s 18/20 with the stock 33s.

 

I had a dream last night that I was test driving a Ford F150. Then, luckily, I had to get up to take a leak and the dream got interrupted and did not resume.

I was actually excited to test drive one, so I went and did it. I was ready to order a black appearance package loaded one. But the truck broke down on the test drive. They asked if I wanted them to call me when they fixed it for a test drive and purchase of it and I said no thanks, I just cant do that. It was a super nice truck, very comfortable, but the powerboost drivetrain needs to be refined, it was clunky at times. I will say though, that thing moves when you get past the clunky hybrid/ICE transition.

bought a platinum tundra instead which isnt built yet, well see if I regret my decision once I get the new rig

Buddy of mine is getting about 14 mpg with his Powerboost, which is worse than he was getting with his last 5.0.

 

I actually test drove one a few years ago and I liked it OK and I may have actually bought one then but the dealer had just sold the MGM one I went in to see. I drove a red one, which is not a color I wanted, but he was giving me the hard sell on it nevertheless. I thanked him for the drive and left. Tundras were not an option for me then due to their abysmal fuel economy.

 

Yeah, it's been my experience that, with some exceptions, most of the V8's get around the same. I had a '13 5.0, and the BEST I ever got was 17MPG on long drives. Around town I got 16MPG, which is what I get with my '20 Tundra.

 

Yeah, the bitching about "bad fuel economy" in the Tundra boggles my mind.

 

for me, I dont really give a shit about the MPG, but the clunkyness of the drivetrain was kinda a non starter and the 5.0 doesn't do it for me.

 

some tundras just get shit no matter what its seems though, mine is one of them. but like I said , I dont really care that much. I would still have liked a 6.2 iForce .

But the 3.4 TT is rather impressive when you drive it with 479 at 2,400 on regular 87 pump gas.

 

My 5.0 f150 got great fuel economy. Over 20 highway and pretty good city. Somewhere like 15-16.

But it also consumed oil. It’s the only downfall of the coyote is the DFM

 

Your buddy is full of shit according to fuelly and every other resource out there. My Powerboost got 22+ highway and 20 in the city. While my Tundra was getting 14-15 with I-force max, but I know everyone on here has a "buddy" who can facilitate furthering their agenda. I owned both so I can actually speak from experience.

 

Not bitching about the old Tundy's MPG. I just have better things to spend my $ on. New ones are good enough to be in the acceptable range for my use case...for me, anyway. Old ones weren't. That's all. EMMV. Everyone's Mileage May Vary.

 

Yeah that's the first I've heard of poor mileage with a Powerboost. I think Ford did a better job on the PB in regards to MPG, and Toyota said from the beginning the iForce Max was all about power as they knew the mileage wasn't gonna be special

 

I don't believe this for a minute. I don't care one bit about fuel mileage (or the cost of eggs) but I can average 18 mpg if I'm careful even with 35s and there is just no way a PB is burning almost 30% more fuel.

 

Wow. What year? When I first got mine, I got 17.9MPG in flatlands (e.g., Illinois, Indiana, etc.) on the interstate, keeping it about 70MPH. With mixed driving I got maybe 16.5 at best....and then it dropped to 15.9 no matter what I did.

I will say my '20 will drop in MPG faster than some if you get on it, but I mean, it's got 4.30 gears and no gas-saving nannies, so IMHO the fact that it will get 16-17.5MPG at all, ever, is amazing. LOL

 

It was a 21 5.0. I use my personal mpg as a gauge. I don’t go by epa. I live springs hills and I drove the dog shit outta mine.

my 21 f150 got 21 highway and 15-16 city.

21 TRD pro got 17 highway and 10-1-10.5 city.

22 pro got 19 highway and 12 city.

22 platinum tundra gets 12.5 city and 20.5- 20.7 highway.

22 lightning got 1.6 - 1.8m/kWH

 

Why are the 22 tundras getting 12.x in the city?

 

If I drive in eco and really focused and didn’t care I get 17.8-18 .

but mine stays in sport+

 

I have a 2000 Tundra SR5 4x4, love this truck but I'm pulling a small RV trailer to Alaska this summer. I did not want to take a 23 YO truck so I went shopping. Even though I love my older Tundra I decided on a new F150 2.7 twin turbo as I used to have a F150 for work and it was also a reliable truck. The new Tundra just didn't feel as good as the F150.

 

The only way they could possibly do that poorly is to do nothing but very short trips where the initial rich warmup is most of the drive. I reset my meter one time and did a 20 mile drive starting dead cold, some highway and some country roads and a little "city". The MPG meter did not get out of the single digits for several miles, but at the end of the drive read 19.6. So if all you did was a bunch of 5 mile drives you are running a lot in open loop rich condition during warmup. That will kill the MPG for ANY ICE vehicle.

 

Majority of my trips are school drop off. Which is 1/4 mile down, 1/4 mile back once sometimes twice a day.

He's a Ford guy through and through so I'm not sure what agenda you think he's pushing by sharing the actual mileage he's getting. Have another cup of coffee.

 

Maybe a little less whiskey in your coffee, asking for a "friend". He has single handedly the worst fuel economy of anyone with a PB, but I guess someone has to, and just happens to be a Tundra forum guys BFF!
