seems to be the case. I'm just going to exit the market for a while I think and watch for when toyota gets their poop in a group I guess.

my business partner just got a 2021 ram loaded night shade and its flawless, rides better than any truck out there. Im not sure I want to look at those again though, we'll see.

I am an old IT guy - how old - first real job I worked at IBM - punching 0's and 1's into physical cards - lol.
Love tech as much as the next guy. But the amount of computer chips going into these new vehicles is scary. When you put a chip in its an all or nothing thing. It works or it doesn't. So the fix here is either some kind of reset or maybe a faulty chip, or more likely dealer re-programming. On my son in laws new F150 limited - the Air Cond. stopped working 70 miles in. He took it in they found nothing. Just started working again, no problems since.
Now what is scarier - go in for a problem and they fix it. Or go in and they don't know what caused it?
What if it happens again when you are out in the boonies somewhere.

agreed, thats the way they all are now too, including Toyota.

if you really read all these threads, it seems like toyota really needs a massive software update to resolve most of the issues.

with exception of the wind noise of course

Wow, that's a terrible experience. Sorry that happened. I can say my 2021 has close to 13k miles now and hasn't had any issues like that or even close to that. I'd be hesitant too if that was my first experience. The market/manufacturing is certainly weird right now.

Haven't gotten to see a powerboost, but how did Ford manage to preserve the underseat storage and Toyota couldn't ?

Toyota uses much less efficient battery that is not as compact with the Nickle Hydride, whereas Ford uses modern lithium battery's that store much more energy in a smaller space. That in conjunction with better engineering would be my conclusion.

This is why I cant show the trucks. Nothing is on time. First it took a month to build. Now it’s been delayed already .

TRD pro is shown as shipped on rail since 8/2 supposed to be delivered today

Mine sat "built" in Dearborn for 2 months before it finally shipped. Was pretty quick from there.

I just want it here. I’ve been resting more. Apparently these are super quiet, super fast and the ride quality is above all.

This is why I put up with 16mpg avg on my best tank of fuel, rides like a truck, no onboard generator of any kind, weak stock leafs, old ass open diffs without even a mechanical limited slip, etc etc etc. Lol.

Everyone I know with a Powerboost is wowed out of their minds until it starts acting up.

I disagree with the idea that all automakers are on the exact same quality level right now. I’m super disappointed in Toyota with the issues I’ve read about the 22s having, especially the weird QC stuff, but I do not for one second believe that Toyota’s issues occur at the same rate as the domestics.
Toyota is simply unwilling to cut corners. You want a hybrid? You get older (proven) hybrid tech. It’s also going to weigh more and take up more space, and we’re not going to change the geometry of the truck to make it fit. You might think something about it looks stupid or that Toyota committed a blunder in not offering the same interior storage, but that manufacturing mentality leads to building vehicles that are never ever ever going to strand you on the side of the road.

Ford is willing to cut all the corners if it impresses you on the test drive. Just my experience with all the Fords my family has had.

That's the only reasonable explanation for someone defending Toyota's lack of innovation or even keeping up by utilizing Nickel Metal Hydride batteries opposed to very thoroughly tested and widely used Lithium batteries. That and cost savings, which we clearly don't see as the consumer.

Well I am inclined to say get back on the horse, take another one out.
The dealer probably messed something up in the lack of prep QC before handing over the truck.
But you are saying the transmission was clunky again. Not sure what to think.
Some interesting info in the link below with someone experiencing the problem.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbiKVHYNXq0

So they ended up reflashing and updated the software. They told him it was a corrupt file. lol
What happened to the days when transmissions were mechanical things.
Change the oil every 50-70k Miles and they lasted forever......

Lol. Lazy. I expect more from you.
Keeping up with what? Warranty claims?

    • “In the first seven months of the year, Ford had 46 separate safety recalls on 6.8 million vehicles, more than any other U.S. auto maker.” (Link)
What Ford tells us: “In the past two years alone, Ford has reduced its warranty repairs costs by $1.2 billion, according to the latest company figures.“ (press release Link)
AND YET… “Ford’s series of recalls cost it $4Billion in warranty costs in 2021 alone. That represents an increase of 76 percent compared to five years earlier.” (Link)

Progress for progress’s sake isn’t necessarily a good thing. There are things I really don’t like about my truck (ahem, payload), but I am glad at least one automaker has long term dependability as a top criterion for their vehicles. Lots of us like our old ass trucks that aren’t tying themselves in knots to keep up with efficiency regulations.

Also, Toyota uses NiMH because it’s safer than Li-ion, and thermal runaway does not occur with NiMH.

Ford put the battery back under the bed and has a heat exchanger built into the exhaust that heats the battery in cold weather. I think maybe Toyota was trying to use the cabin as a way to keep the battery warm? I am not particularly sure why they couldnt find a place under a body on frame truck to stuff it because the capacity of the batteries in either truck is no more than the size of two conventional group 24 car batteries AFAIK. My LiFePO4 battery for my travel trailer is 2.2 kWh(Powerboost is 1.5 kwh and Tundra is 1.8) and measures 6" x 10" x 14". Its pretty small.

I'm in the same boat. I had a 2019 Ram and it was the best ride I've ever had in a truck. At the time, the amount of issues it had as well as what seemed like poor customer care drove me away from the brand. In hindsight, the issues were so minor it would barely phase me now and the customer care blows Toyota out of the water. Even though I swore I'd never consider a Ram product again, my view has changed now that I can see them through a different lens. I usually get something new every 3 or so years, I may go back, LOL!

2019 is the first year of their new design right? Can definitely see some first year issues coming up, like all manufacturers have. I have had a 2021 Bighorn as my work truck for the last two years, and no issues in almost 40K miles. Hemi 5.7 with the ZF8 trans is such a good pairing with how well the truck rides. Current tank is averaging 19.3 MPG on 275/65R18 Laufenn X FIT AT's as well.

Yes, first year......I do not learn from my mistakes easily hahaha! I'm a glutton. Nevertheless, those first year glitches and service don't compare to Toyota.

Understandable. Hard to resist and not get stoked on the redesigned fancy new ones! Best of luck with your 2022, I have to admit that I am looking at them. They are the best looking truck on the road (Windchill Pearl please), I don't want the hybrid (Toyotas hybrid anyhow), and they are a relative bargain at $60K.

I have had 5-6 rams as rentals. Some were the previous gen and some the current. They really do have the hemi/zf8 dialed in just right. And the ride is fantastic right from the factory. Better even than my F150 on Bilsteins.

Not a Ford but now on my radar is the GMC Sierra with the updated LZ0 3.0L Duramax. Now making 305hp and 495ft-lbs of torque.

The new 3.0L Duramax has seen some improvements not only to power but reduced complexity, and the oil pump belt is now a 200K replacement interval.

This makes sense to me. I don't get sore from sitting anywhere for any length of time, but I could see how that would be the case. I'm sure it will happen to me as I get older.

But I thought the baby duramax was awesome. I got to drive my buddy's truck at the boat ramp where we put in. Just instant low end grunt. Almost feels like you're in 4Lo, but it's smoother. He also gets 30 mpg cruising. Is the price of diesel and the increased costs of maintenance/service worth it? That seems to be the question.

The entire rest of the truck felt very cheap, from the seats to the plastic caps on the bedsides and tailgate. This is coming from someone who owns a 2nd gen Tundra with the interior plastics that get scuffed when you look at them. At least my interior is dead silent with no rattles. The babymax reminded me of our Yukon XL, which rattles like a tin can with coins in it as you go down the road.

Can relate to this. I wanted to love it so bad due to how the smoothness of it and fuel efficiency. Then had used a friend’s for the weekend and at freeway speed it wasn’t great and the weight of it made it handle like it was playing dodge ball. Dodge, dip, duck, dive and dodge.

ya, I was really disappointed on my test drive recently.

I tested a GMC 6.2 AT4 refresh and the seats were painfully and the ride wasnt that great. I really like the rest of the interior with the exception of how they made the new shifter work, push it up is not park, you have to push a button for park, I kept putting it reverse.

All this talk about the GM 3.0 diesel and the Sierra is good info, as I was looking at other options of the Tundra, and I'm either looking at the F150 or Sierra... Still not sure what is better vs. the Tundra, but all I know Toyota need to get their act together if they want to keep me as a customer!

I did find a nice F150 Tremor with the 402A package, very tempting!!
