TuxMat. Pretty happy with them so far. Full coverage.

I think Ford’s features list look great. 7.2kW generator? Awesome. Front torsen diff? Fantastic. But dammit, I am surrounded in my life with family and friends who keep buying Fords because their not-very-old Fords have issues. It’s like Ford figured out how to turn their trucks’ falling to shit into a selling point for a new truck.

I still think the rear floor thing is an optical issue for most. I utilize my rear floor space more than my bed, to be honest. All my gear for work (vintage guitars, amps, ect) has to be climate controlled during my commute to the studios I work in. My medium sized chocolate lab curls up just perfectly snug in one of the footwells on a Carhartt dog bed. That’s with my three kids sitting in the backseat. I also haul tools and parts for home projects back there. I appreciate that they can’t slide around because of the footwells. Never had a box that can’t ride a little bit tipped.

Maybe your youngest kid is 6ft tall, and you don’t want his feet more elevated than his taller siblings. Maybe your dog travels in a kennel, and it makes your eye twitch to see it not perfectly level. Still, I don’t see how it’s the solitary dealbreaker it seems like some are making it out to be. Now, if it’s the final straw after being bummed by the hybrid performance/mpg, meager payload, or debuting in the middle to rear of the pack overall, I totally get that.

I do not believe toyota ever said "game changer". Maybe a couple dealers made a similar remark but don't think it was Toyota

I'm not a Ford guy at all. I got a 21 Platinum Powerboost, private party, with very very low miles, last year while I was waiting on the Tundra to launch. First Ford ever. It's had the little annoyances that have been listed on this thread (trans a little clunky at times, mpg's good but only great if you baby the hell out of it, a couple of tech/gadget issues) but no deal breakers.

Overall, it's a really nice truck and I'm going to keep it for a while instead of trade it on a Platinum Tundra. Can't believe it, but it's top notch, at least as a year old 2021. Who knows what happens as the years and miles increase, but I do like it a lot more than I expected.

Based on your earlier test drive, I would find one with some miles on it and drive it to make sure its ok for you. JMO based on your previous posts. $70k US dollars is a lot of coin.

With that they had an Auto guy on the business news this week. They were discussing how full size pick up trucks and Big SUV's have turned the corner due to gas prices and demand destruction. They predict you will be seeing many pickups on the dealer lots soon. Not sure about Tundras as they don't make a lot of them.
The ever high RAM inventory is even bigger now with higher discounts.
This all means the value of the used Tundras is dropping too.

interesting. Im a toyota truck fan at heart (this would be 5th tundra and I had 4 tacomas) but not blindly brand loyal, I liked my Ram I had.

This entire launch of the tundra has been kinda sour feeling, looking at these posts of these guys with trucks that rattle like crazy, wind noise inside, etc. ugh.

I do like that it comes that way I want, all color matched and blacked out. the tundra platinum I want I have to change quite a few parts stash, fender flares, rear tailgate piece, and wheels and tires. That kinda a PITA, although I was and likely still willing to do so, but these persistent QC problems have given me pause

I'm a Toyota/Lexus guy for sure. Have had countless vehicles from both in my home and helped family members find/buy as well over the years. I will always lean Toyota over every other brand, but I have really enjoyed the F150 so far and feel a little disappointed in the Tundra's launch from a quality perspective as well as some of the features (high-level trim gadgets) it doesn't have vs. the F150 (generator, flat rear cargo area if seats folded, blue cruise, massaging seats, etc). I still expect the Toyota to be more reliable over time and have great resale value and I hope they add some features into the Tundra and the new Sequoia to get them more competitive with the GM/Ford platforms in terms of tech/comfort because, imo, both GM and Ford have really upped their game as of 2021+ model years for Ford and 22/23 for GM. I know some of my comments might be "knocked" for focusing on gadgets vs. off-road truck stuff, but I use the truck around town, for work/clients, and on long road trips, vs. off-road so the qualities I'm interested in may be different from the off-road focused guys.

When I use my truck they are 1 1/2 hour - 2 hour drives before I get to my destination. So the first 3/4 of the trip is highway and the remainder off road. So my needs cover on road and off road.
I am 5 10 normal size I guess, and a jogger. This means my back is ok, but I have terrible knees. The big seats in my 2018 Tundra must just happen to be a good fit for me because it is the first vehicle I have never had to "adjust position" due to a strained back. So your comment about massaging seats........ I have found that tighter form fitting seats become an issue on the back, with more time behind the wheel. Have you seen the guy with the million mile Tundra ?

Generator - big miss by Toyota and that Power I would think applies equally or more to off road needs.

Your comment about wanting a flat rear floor applies to everyone. The rear seat area is prime real estate. No one is going to complain about giving people more space for their on road and off road goodies. People will complain when you take it away, especially when we find out it was taken away to support the needs of a "Hybrid" that does not deliver better mileage. JMO. Time will tell if they missed the boat on it.

also - The bed is secondary storage. We now know why they probably went to composite. They needed to remove 400 lbs and add it to the front to support the new engine. See interview with M Sweers thread.

I have similar usage, don't really care about off-road anymore. Around town, business , and vacation road trips and pulling small boat

I think Im going to go test another powerboost today and give it another look. may just order one and be done with all this BS and then maybe a tundra when they get the mid cycle refresh and by then it should be super solid. that Generator is calling my name, what a great feature

Well, that was interesting. I took a platinum powerboost for a ride, massaging seats and all and the thing like broke down on the test drive, LOL. 70 miles on the clock

it was driving clunky again and I got every warning malfunction light on the dash, got pro power onboard not working on the radio.

and to top it off the speedo said I was going 25 when I was going like 55-60 and then when I turn around to go back to the dealer it said 58 MPH when I was going 25 ish.

the guy apologized and said do you want us to call you when we fix it. I said no thanks, man, I just can't do that for 77K.

I pointed to my tundra sitting there and said "im sorry, but Im used to bullet proof reliability and I just can't do this, Im sorry". I wished him good luck with the truck.

    I took a video

That sucks, dealer clearly didn't prepare the vehicle for a real customer or delivery and some sensors are blocked. Either way, crappy experience and understand your perspective given that experience.

Was this a BAP one or just regular? And those errors look like maybe they forgot to take some of the transport wrap during PDI. Or maybe it's just shit

    me either.

I had my order sheet ready and was really thinking I would just order one and then see if toyota worked out the bugs or ford built my truck first and take whichever one was first.

but damn, that plan blew up FAST.

no it was ready to drive and already had been out before with 70 miles on it.

he said they had some recall on it or something that maybe got messed up.

I said dude, you better try again.

so I think it was just shit honestly, it drove like shit clunky as hell

Honestly... I think any new vehicle that is manufactured during this crazy ass pandemic-logistics issues is a gamble. I love my older vehicles as they seem rock solid reliable. My daily driver is a 2018 Ford F150 4WD, with the 2.7L V6. Gets amazing gas mileage for a truck (low 20's city, up to 34 hwy), and has been super reliable. I have friends with new Ford F150's and the new Tundra and they had hit and miss reliability issues with both manufacturers. My '05 Tundra is a great truck and has been rock solid--but at 12-17 mpg it's not the most fuel friendly. Good luck in your decision!

I think every brand is having issues now. Whatever is to blame, poor QC, disgruntled workers, or just bad parts in general, it can't be escaped if you're buying a new truck right now.
