You may not need to totally remove that horizontal piece from the door. Maybe just cut it on each end and fold it down (or up) that way you maintain some structural integrity

    not sure Im following?

I was kicking around just putting it up on the panel above the bumper to take it out of the way, or cutting it off on the side where the truck would sit. but you cant fold it down I don't think its flared out against the door and then goes out (towards the interior0 about 2-4")

I was wondering if they make just a flat piece that would do the same thing.

I'm just going off recollection of my previous metal garage door. The horizontal beams were just right angle galvanized sheet metal with a rolled lip, I could fold that down for nearly 2" more space, i.e. less risk of catching the bumper when the door moves....

can i ask where a 4x4 platinum is just sitting for test driving? Like wtf, been waiting 3 months for mine and she said it 3-4 months out. It's a moot point now but still.

    northern IL.

they only got two trucks since the release he said they normally get allocations every 3 weeks.

the region gave them a truck to show and for test drives and they are not allowed to sell it.

so that worked out for me, at least I know if it fits in teh garage and if I like the new tundra, it was yes to both

    now, these damn QC issues.

yes, I think I am at the moment.

I have to collect my thoughts and notes, but the tundra just felt like it was engineered better and built better. Thats totally just a seat of the pants feeling but it's what I had.

I do really like some of the features on the ford, the power on board, zone lighting, etc. that powerboost is a beast and it doesnt cost you underseat storage etc. The tundra hybrid just doesn't really bring anything to the table to justify 3500 bucks IMO, so thats out

its either powerboost or non-hybrid tundra. Im leaning tundra, but the QC issues like the ride bottoming out, the weather striping, wind noise, and turbo fiasco is giving me a moment of pause.

that said, Ive owned a ton of Toyotas (I had a bunch of tacoma that aren't listed, celica, etc) and toyota always took care of things, they really did. if there was a problem they would fix it, it may take a bit but they would usually come through, I have never owned a ford, so not sure how they are with that, there is a lot to go wrong on that powerboost truck, and I just not sure I can live with how clunky it was while driving.

Im thinking about sitting out until 2023 and trying again, but the trade in values are so bloated right now, its tempting. Im waiting to hear what they will offer, I really don't know how much my current tundra is worth in this market. I take super good care of my trucks and it has tons of upgrades (dealer doest pay for those, I know that) with 73K on the clock. I would guess 35-40K?

When considering how Ford might treat you with any F-150 issues, just check the online reviews for the local Ford dealer.
I recently owned a VW, it was always in the shop, but the dealership was super good and despite the car being "typical VW" I'd probably buy another from that dealership anyway

good idea, the ford dealership I would buy from has super high ratings, I was shocked actually. dealer can make a big difference for sure if you run into problems

my fuel pump crapped out out on my tundra I ahve now and I had the platinum warranty so they covered it. They broke my windshield while they had it, it took a little back and forth but they got me a new OEM toyota windshield and installed it for me with not much of a deal. so that was good as well. the fuel pump taking a shit was not so good, but things happen, yes folks, even a to Toyotas , lol.

funny thing, everyone said buying a ram was stupid, they break down every 10 miles, but it Never let me down once, it was the tundra that wouldn't start.

JMO - we know there is a window remaining on this as it applies to used truck values.
In the same way that the new truck dealers must be getting nervous with the rising gas prices and the demand for full size trucks, for the same reason the demand on used trucks that people have traded in......I think they will start sitting at lots and not move ...when no one knows. Geo politics suggests soon. Again JMO

ya, agreed, I have no idea what they are going to offer now, and also no idea how when these prices will come down for used.

my guess, when toyota hit full production and there are actually some tundras on the lots, the value will go down.

its like playing the stock market, lol. Im going to see what they offer in trade in and go from there, I have to see some of these issue resolved as well.

That's gonna take a few weeks, maybe months, but I think you're right. Oil futures are going to $200/barrel right now, about double what it's been at.

I suspect ADMs will subside too

as near as I can figure , I think right now paying MSRP instead of 2-4K off like before (Toyotas, big three were way more than that), it seems the used market vales are bloated more than 2-4K right now so in a odd way its still a decent time to buy.

need the super duper sweet spot, discount from MSRP but right when the used values are still high, but damn , that will be hard to pull off and get exactly what you want.

Just get the Tundra, dude. I know it's not perfect, but it's still really really good and you have always had a good experience with Toyota. Or you can get a few extra features with the Ford and pray you got a 'good' one.

    I guess it'd depend on your trade-in.
If you're trading in a "gas guzzler" I think soon we should see those values come way back down as very high gas prices start to become considered. However, I still see values on more fuel efficient vehicles staying high, with high gas prices solidifying their elevated values.

I'm paying cash for my next truck, so I'm really hoping that the very high gas prices have a significant effect like they did 14 years ago. The Tundra may still be relatively expensive, but if the Nissan Titan becomes dirt cheap, I may just buy another one of those.

Really hoping mid-range trucks get back into the high 40's.

If you're hoping for max value from a v8 Tundra trade in, now's probably the time!

Aside from trying to time the market which no one can do...I agree with you - if you are ready to trade it in - nows a good time JMO.
But lets discuss gas guzzler and one of the reasons I am really struggling with this.
The new tundra has not performed well with gas mileage when used as a truck not as a commuter.
I get this from forum comments, the Tundra gas mileage poll, and my own research.

My truck 2018 is defined as a gas guzzler.
But if I drive fully loaded and light on the gas when I take my trips I can get 18.5 mpg. 12.5 liters/100km.
And that is in line with what 2022 owners are getting - so still struggling with this. Outside of the lack of a flat floor too.
This is a good video and he really likes the Tundra.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQpR1jjTpVU

But mileage is a problem. He was getting 14 and 19 mpg before the larger tires.
And the tires he put on look like the tires it SHOULD have come with.
So he also makes another really good point.
The new design with the 18 inch OR tires - they are too small. Maybe its the design curves over the fenders that give this illusion
But I agree the standard OR tires are too small.
This requires more $$$$ on top of MSRP paid to change them out. Just a consideration.
The platinum pics posted - the 20 inch tires look like an ok size. They fill the well.
I understand that the smaller tires were done for mileage numbers....but ....

Wouldn't the 18s and the 20s have the same overall size? I'm a fan of more rubber and less rim on a truck.

I agree with you, but look at this pic. Is it the side design or the rims giving me this illusion?
Can some owners of the OR version with these OR rims like in this pic (only ones available in Canada) 8^(
pls post some pics same distance away . thank u

Trade in values for trucks are already declining. I locked my Carvana offer for my 5.0 and will be picking up my hybrid CRV next week until the Lightning is built (or my Platinum Tundra/ Sequoia) . It's at $61k and only paid $58k for it.

Did an incognito recheck today and it's at $57k.

Sounds like a good plan. In light of the effed up world situation, which may result in persistent higher fuel prices, I am also considering other options. Might just keep the Tacoma for truck duty and get a hybrid SUV for the daily driver and road tripper. CRV, RAV4 and Highlander hybrids are candidates. Or maybe jump the shark for a Tesla X... but their cost would more than wipe out any potential gasoline savings. Still not in a hurry to make a move but it's getting harder to justify a Tundra when I don't really need that much payload and towing capacity. The next gen Tacoma may still be an option depending on how it turns out for MPG.

Oh, Ford Lightning and upcoming Silverado EV are interesting, but I won't be an early adopter. Want to see how they perform in the real world.

Yup, it sure looks like it is. At the peak my 2018 SR5 Taco was showing $41.5K high end private party. It is now at $37.2k. Not even a few weeks ago it was over $39k... Paid $32.4k OTD for it back in 2017 so still ahead, but I am waiting a model year before getting the new Tundra. Plus, every model here is loaded with options and I am a more bare bones kind of guy.

Just curious, but why was a new Ram not an option.

canadian SR5 OR I agree they seem a little small, but I’ll be waiting till they wear out to replace them with a larger size.7CBF356C-422E-4E6F-95CC-6FE21CBC7C67.jpg30D860B2-7BC8-40DB-B11D-1FC7B593B25F.jpg BB2C41CD-0A61-4B4B-85A1-002E7BF85BAD.jpg

    or
change them (rims/tires) out now, and store away if you have space until you sell the truck one day.
that was my plan. its always worth more if all original Toyota in great shape. my experience.

Was in town with my wife. Went to see the demo the Toyota dealer had and yes took a limited 6.5 ft. bed truck out. Will post comments and pics a little later when home.

My visit and short test drive.
It's so different and new, what they created.... that I think they should of just called it something else. That way all of us could have invited the new truck owners in without the shit storm that has ensued 8^0 on this forum.
    2.5 vs 3.0

I will say all you guys that have one already, or one on order - its a beautiful vehicle, congratulations.
Feels Toyota solid built. It should not be compared "AT ALL" IMO to the 2.5 gen. It is different vehicle altogether, that is all.
THEY SHOULD OF CALLED IT SOMETHING ELSE.

With that I spent about an hour with it which included a 15-20 minute drive.
The first couple of pictures tried to capture the things that I think a 2.5 Gen owner would notice and find ...........interesting.

The 2.5 version definitely turns quicker. I tried the 3 point turn. The new truck is linear and smooth. I noticed turbo lag, and I was not there to see how fast it was. I drove it like I do mine so I could see what kind of mileage it got. In the end I think the 6.5 ft bed is ok, and it makes up for the space lost with the smaller 5.5 bed and cab. My biggest complaint. It was a loaded limited the mirrors went in and out, the steering wheel was nicely heated. What did not make sense to me was the large screen. I am an IT guy, love tech but I think its just too big. Plus it did not have the off road package so the different angle camera views, it did not have. I really like the longer bed. Its big and heavy and drives solid.
One of the pictures shows a gas station with price. $1.79.9 Liter. Ironic... no?

    Pictures in order.
This is the view for the driver - many have commented on how narrow a vision it is. People have commented they cannot see the traffic lights.
Can you get used to it. Sure. But compared to the 2.5 the top and 3.0 on bottom. see the pic.

    Yup.
Salesman told me "you go alone for the test drive. If I come with you, protocol says we will need to keep all the windows open for Covid"
