    Given the general stupidity of people on dry/good road conditions, the accident rate for slick roads (even with sand) would skyrocket.

    Yea, that 5-8 statement is ridiculous. My 2009 F-150 has certainly not worn out in "5-8 years". It has over 180K also.

    I should tell my neighbor that his 11th gen F150 (2004-2008) died a decade ago and he just doesn't know it.

    sand isn't practical around here for numerous reasons, starting with cloging all the drainage systems.

    Oh - I hear you guys
    This is what my rust bucket prone 2017 4Runner looks like. IMO. As long as it was rust proofed properly it could very well be in better shape than the vehicle that never got treated that doesnt experience real winter, but may be subject to other envornmental conditions. No more seized actuators. bolts. electronics corrrosion (salt from ocean). Its all about taking care of it if you are keeping it long term. Unfortunately as we know with most trucks being traded every 3-4 years now, no one cares about this. So when finding one used around here, to find proof of rust proofing is rare.

    Yup. Treatment and care can preserve it. Trouble is that most people driving cars are dumber than the car itself, so the thought of preserving it doesn't even occur to them. Couple that with lazy bastards like me, and you have low odds of finding rigs in the shape yours is in. The people who care for a vehicle that way are the same ones who don't sell them.

    Well, the purpose is not to add traction but to melt the ice. Sand wouldn't do much good for traction anyway, and it would just accumulate on the sides of the roads etc. Salt lowers the freeze point, thus melting the ice, then (eventually) dissolves away itself.

    I'm pretty sure you're not using lumber racks, dealing with careless multiple drivers, subjecting it to Alaska's harsh winters, or using it daily on fast-paced construction sites. Any vehicle can last a long time if you throw enough money into it. Unfortunately, Fords aren't exactly known for their quality and longevity. Gm and Toyota last longer in same circumstances. Ram is trash

    i think at some point after 2021 Ford expanded the XLT line from 2 to 3 levels, increasing the price spread. Some of what I have was moved to the top XLT package. Basically to push more Lariats they created an XLT tier so close to base Lariat pricing it doesn't make sense not to step up to the lariat once you're there.

    Look I miss the growl badly even if I have far more power. I'd probably be in a V8 now except I placed my order and started to get antsy about 5 minutes later about the COVID wait times and immediately began to continually check everybody's inventory for my color.

    Then they lowered the tailgate on something that caught my eye and it had 5 outlets in it.

    Ok, I get that they added more tiers, but what actual specific features were lost? If your model year had 2 levels and the new one has 4 levels but the 2 new levels were just more features being brought down without killing the two existing levels, then there would be no problem. Without you actually specifying features that were lost there is no way to corroborate your statement that features were removed. It might have actually been feature additions through the added levels. We need specific features that were lost.

    I am way too lazy to re examine in detail but I took the time a long time ago to play with builds. Top tier moved above the range of what I paid and then a number of things I had were made unavailable in mid tier and moved to the new XLT high.

    This is apples to apples before you start talking discounts. If I traded within a year I'd have done better.

    I think by 2023 model year my truck was at least 5k more

    The majority of trucks aren’t exposed to Alaska winters, yet you lump all Fords into that.

    FWIW my F-150 is our beater extended cab work truck with a 6.5ft bed and gets most of the hard use.

    There are always exceptions to the rules. I'm just speaking from my experience, and I’m sure there are other perspectives. For me:

    RAM = trash

    Ford = unreliable

    GM = hit or miss

    Toyota = okay

    I agree you will keep it longer. I'm doing it. But the age of the vehicle does weigh on you especially when you head off municipality maintained roads and go through forest lanes. And I am on the original battery with my Tundra. I do carry a boost pack in the tool kit. I would sell my Tundra and 4Runner if I can find a vehicle that kills two birds with one stone and be comfortable buying it. As far as the pickup truck I was always leaning since '22 anyway with the Tremor. But now I think an XLT Hybrid with Pro Power makes more sense. Doing the research over winter like other years. Be nice if they offered the 4Auto as a separate option and not the next level up part of a bigger package which I do not need.

    That's becoming way too prevalent these days. I also hate that I can't order a truck with what I want but none of the tings I don't want. I understand from a manufacturing point of view, the fewer options and models simplifies things on the assembly line but how hard would it be to maybe one day a week or a month for them to run the line for special orders? Would you like fries with that? I prefer an SR5 or XLT level truck but would really like leather. Never going to happen, heck you need to step up to Platinum level now a days just for leather and then you have 100 things you don't want.

    My FIL has always sat down with the fleet manager of his local dealer and pretty much got what he wanted and he gets pretty specific like back seat deletes etc. Is that even an option today?

    And base Tremor does not have 4A, have to get the 402A, which puts you well into loaded Lariat territory price-wise.

    402a according to Google AI below - 8^)
    I will do everything possible not to get a pano/sun roof on the next vehicle. I have nothing but horror stories for drainage. Tundra - roof drains clogging too easy and 4Runner - the stupid plastic tabs at the end of the drain tubes just below the floor clog and back up. Ask me how I know. I park my trucks in forests and places where there are lots of Pine and Cedar trees.

    it was $1000 option when I bought mine, but that was a couple years ago now. I don’t care anything about a sunroof, but my wife wanted it. I’m not had any problems with it, but I also park full-time in a garage

    Well....I would say since the "legendary" toyota reliability has taken a hit with the latest issues, the comparison for 1/2 tons probably just comes down to who has the longest factory warranty available for your peace of mind, So we would have to award that one to Ford with the availability of a 10 year 175K (basically bumper to bumper)....it's gonna cost ya but no worries for a bit.

    You got that right. I bought a 10yr/100,00mi warranty for a 2022 F250 7.3 gas and it was over twice the cost of my Tundra warranty for the same term

    I paid $1600 for my 7year/100k. I figured (in 2022) that reliability would be a crapshoot between the F-150 and the 3rd gen so I just picked the one that looked the best and had better performance. Turned out to be the right choice.

    Jan 2025 is upon us. Is it still the same in your opinion, 3 years later for the F150 ?

    I have not really kept up with the 3rd gen complaints lately. If they have the gas line and engine shitting the bed issues solved I might give the reliability edge to the Toyota. I’ve seen people still complaining about the 10R80. That said, I’ve had no issues of any kind. I’d still pick the F-150 just because it does everything better for my uses.

    I guess I am a little surprised at the Toyota comment. Tundra/Tacoma issues were enough to drop Toyota from the top rating for whoever follows consumer reports. I sent the article to my wife. She owns an Outback. (smile)

    https://www.thecarconnection.com/ne...ger-most-reliable-brand-says-consumer-reports

    (off topic thread catch all)
    My friendly "country" Toyota dealer Sales Manager contacted me recently to see if I would be interested in trading my 4Runner in on a new Land Cruiser or the new 4Runner. He did not even ask about my Tundra. 8^)
    I am always looking for a deal, so I said sure, send me the numbers including my 4Runner trade in value. Its been serviced there, they know it. He emails me the numbers and I am shocked at what Toyota ----> Toyota Dealer wants to charge for these 4 cylinder vehicles. When he doesnt hear back from me he calls me. So I gave him my opinion to pass on.

    My wife has been eyeing the new GX, wonder what we could get for her 22 ORP with only 10k miles.
