Very true. Our daughter was part of the Hyundai Santa Fe engine debacle. After some initial denying of any claim, her husband got involved and they agreed to replace her engine. So yes she received a new engine but it also took 5-6 trips back to the dealer to remedy things not put together properly after the new engine was installed. The whole thing was a *very* frustrating experience.

playing what if with the ford guy so I know the outcome but...

if you had a paid off tundra (since you don't finance) you'd really dump it if nothing was wrong or you were getting a brand new full motor under warranty ? There would be loss there more likely for no reason. If something was wrong after the repair it would likely be noticed right away since they are doing long blocks and not having 900 parts all over the shop floor like the short block BS

That doesn't seem right at all, except in this thread when your the Ford guy, lol.

I would have dumped the Tundra at the first opportunity once reliability was in question. I've got two very small children and a boat that cost me well over six figures, none of which I am willing to leave stranded on the side of the road. But to answer your question more directly, yes I would still unload it with a new engine, no matter the brand. Just as I'd unload any vehicle that has had a major repair. They are never really "right" again after extensive work has been done.

    fair enough

lets hope that ford doesn't follow the earnings call in which Ford is decimated on warranty repair costs, hehe.

"Ford CEO Jim Farley said it takes time for new Ford vehicles of higher quality to make their way into the market, but once they do, warranty costs will be reduced over time."

    https://www.freep.com/story/money/c...it-falls-electric-vehicle-losses/74524862007/

had to get a quick one in there since its friday, HA

ps, I will give Farley credit, he doesn't mince words, straight up says their quality sucks

I think this was discussed yesterday. But yeah, if my Tremor gave me any reason to not trust it, it would be on the chopping block fast.

In '21, when I was replacing the Taco with a 1/2 ton, F150 and Tundra were the only trucks I considered. At the time, Tundra had Toyotas reputation to stand on, but was a brand new model. F150 had Fords reputation, but also engine had 15 years of refinement on the road(plus maybe 5 years R&D?). So reliability to me was a wash at the time. Less so now.

But in the end I just picked the better looking (subjective) and better performing (not subjective) truck and I've been very happy with the decision

I wish I hadn’t dumped about 10k give or take in to my Tundra or I’d trade it in. So I’m search for a dealer to give me a good deal. The baby Duramax seems promising, but power maybe boring. Wife does not like the Ford styling, and Ford is my choice.

Have to make time to test drive a duramax, see how she drives. Toyota has left a bad taste in my mouth. Too bad, really love how the truck is set up. It’s an absolute joy to drive and to be fair has been trouble free.

Have to see how the test drive goes with GM, I think the Tundra is a far better looking Truck of all for me. My wife thinks the GM looks like a rich old mans truck lol. So I’ll have to drop so coin to bring it up to par.

I do like that little duramax, my neighbor has one and it drives great. I wouldn't say it's exciting, but it's got great torque, quiet, great mileage.

It fluctuates but usually a little more than Regular. At least it was, I have not had a diesel in 10 years so I don't really pay attention.

I think diesel a premium gas are on par for cost. You just get more miles per gallon with diesel and more torque.

    I know.

Im GTF of here in a few years, going SW, I like warm and hot and low dew points, fuck this place, Illinois climate is freaking awful

high dew point summers, and bone freezing winters and no sun for fuckin 6 months, Im done here.

I do like heating oil tanks though, we do a ton of remediation for those, HEHE

I’m sure I could tune that bad boy. I always have to mod my machines. Only down fall, GM can monitor the torque output for this platform, so they’ll know the ecu or piggyback has been used to alter the psi for the turbos. The mpg is very promising.

My experience with Ford quality is they absolutely have more than their share of issues, but they tend not to be strand you on the side of the road types of things. It's lots of smaller annoying stuff, like in my case on previous trucks - bad cameras, cooled seat fans, APIM (computer controlling the infotainment). The more major stuff has been things that would give a lot of warning first - like the differential rebuild I had.

Honestly I’m really torn/ upset with Yota. Just the thought of being stranded in the most inconvenient way with my kids and elderly mom is a big no no for me.

Seats for me shouldn’t be an issue, I’m a mere 5’6” 190#. Only time I have an issue with seats is when I’m wearing my uniform, duty belt and plate carrier. Dr.Z is a big boy I think 6’5”. But I’ll be looking out for those seats. Tundras are pretty comfortable, even with my gear on.

I understand, consider keeping for a while and see how more of this unfolds, they may expand the recall, or do a service campaign type thing or other stuff, who knows.

anything can crap out on you at anytime, remember they have sold 100s of thousands of tundras and not many have actually crapped out compared to all they have sold at record tundra sales paces.

shame to dump a truck that is HIGHLY unlikely to have a problem when you like it, mines not going anywhere and Im the month after the recall date with a build date of march or April 2023, so Im as close as you can get without being in the recall.

good luck with whatever you do

Ironically I’m within the recall, build date 01/23. But I’m not included in the recall. Strange…. I’d by happy, but then again even some 24’ have failed. So I don’t think I’m out of the woods. I still drive it business as usual.

I agree with your wife…I feel older driving the GMC over the Tundra! You should look at the AT4 for more sport. The seats in the Denali are great btw.
I’ve put 2,500 miles on my baby max so far. It rides smoother and drives great but it isn’t as peppy as the TTV6. The torque and power are for real though.
Just returned from an 800 mile trip pulling my boat and average 20.0 mpg. It used about 1galllon of DEF at $3.99. Any day driving normal unloaded I pull over 30mpg. The best I’ve got was over 40mpg on a stretch of highway with the cruise set at 60. Diesel is more expensive here in WI but the mpg outweighs the cost difference by far. Overall, I’m impressed.

Yeah, I’ve verified in Toyota’s website, NHTSA & the app. Only one I got is the fuel line recall.

Well Toyota website gives me an error for whatever reason…

I just don’t think there are any great light duty half ton choices out there right now. Titan is a goner soon and wasn’t competitive anyways, GM has had a lot of issues an is way behind the others, RAM dropped the HEMI and its new engine is unproven, Toyota has lost their reliability rep for now, and Ford’s PB has issues along with overall QC issue and overpriced until recently.
I traded my 22 Tundra for 24 F150 XLT, FX4, 3.5 EB, Black appearance package on June 5th and am pleasantly surprised so far. I put on some Bilstein rear gas shocks which improves the ride. The tranny is not quite as good as Tundra’s and the rear window doesn’t drop down. Otherwise, I like a lot of things better on the Ford,, the dash design is far better, seats are better, Payload is 50% better, gauges are far better (tranny also) and have digital read outs, smoother ride, better OEM tires and has factory tow hooks. Problems and reliability = too soon to tell.
Right now, I am looking at the F150 as a soft landing spot for at least a couple of years and will keep an eye on what happens with Toyota and others. We travel a lot with our Travel Trailer and really had no choice but to unload the Tundra since we are retired seniors and don’t want to sit around the house for a year until we get a new engine.

I agree with you Nmmike about there not being a great half ton out there and I hope you have a good time with your new F150. IMO its just better to wait a couple years if you can then buy a half ton right now or look at a 3/4 ton if that is an option its not that much pricier and the GM 6.6 and Ford 7.3 are great gas engines.

U haul sold out of pickups. My Avis always gives out trucks even if you book economy so I booked a compact and sure enough assigned a truck.

I gotta say, this sport XLT is nice. The cloth seats aren’t bad but the blacked out trim is nice and the material is luxury but it’s really kid friendly and cleanable

And more expensive maintenance and repair bills. Usually longer lead times to get in for service as well as a dealer will only have a select number of diesel techs vs. gasoline. I'm sure people on here are educated enough, but there are some that get the D for the roll coal, bro-dozer, compensation factor, until they get a $300+ oil change bill.
